A gasp echoed through the arena.
Ye Lingling's dazzling move shocked the entire audience.
Was this really that fragile support-type soul master? People would believe it if someone said she was a battle soul master.
Outside the Soul Battle Arena, Oscar lay barely conscious in Zhao Wuji's arms.
"Teacher Zhao... she's really amazing..." Oscar muttered before losing consciousness.
Flender trembled, his face filled with bitterness. This time, he had listened to Yu Xiaogang and bet everything he had, including the 10,000 gold coins from Zuzong, all riding on Shrek's victory.
Flender groaned, "It's over... Everything is over. My 10,000 gold coins..."
Zhao Wuji, however, let out a sigh of relief. "Luckily, I switched my bet to the Emperor team last minute, or I'd be done too."
Flender paused and looked at Zhao Wuji, showing an awkward smile.
As for Yu Xiaogang, cold sweat dripped from his forehead. He was panicking now. Without Oscar, they couldn't use the flying sausages, and their strategy was ruined. They were going to lose, completely.
On the battle platform, Dai Mubai, suppressing the pain in his chest, shouted angrily, "Fatty! Yiran! Let's go all out together! Rongrong, boost us. If we save Zhuqing, we might still have a chance."
"Understood!" ×3
"Seven Treasures Glazed Tile" Ning Rongrong elegantly spun on the spot, and radiant colorful light burst forth from her body. As the light concentrated, a seven-colored pagoda, about a foot tall, appeared in her right palm.
The pagoda shimmered, exuding an aura of nobility. Ning Rongrong smiled gracefully, appearing ethereal. Two yellow soul rings rose from beneath her feet, circling her quietly.
"The Seven Treasures. First Soul Skill: Strength Amplification!" The first soul ring ascended, enveloping the Seven Treasures Pagoda, and with a touch from Ning Rongrong's left hand, three beams of light shot out, landing on Dai Mubai and the other two.
"The Seven Treasures. Second Soul Skill: Speed Amplification!" Three more beams of light emerged as Ning Rongrong's second soul ring activated.
With Ning Rongrong's soul skills complete, Dai Mubai and the others lunged forward, attacking Zuzong in a triangular formation.
Dai Mubai and Meng Yiran led the charge, creating an opening for Ma Hongjun to fire his Phoenix Flame.
This time, they not only wanted to save Zhu Zhuqing but also eliminate the Zuzong.
As the trio charged, the Zuzong leader smirked. "So full of openings, every one of you."
"Blue Silver Entanglement," Zuzong murmured in his mind.
Raising his right hand, a faint white glow appeared on his skin, and then deep blue, nearly black Blue Silver Emperor vines, covered in intricate markings, surged from his palm. Three clear rings—yellow, yellow, purple—rose from beneath his feet, spiraling around him.
Dozens, if not hundreds, of deep blue vines, armored with black scales, shot out from Zuzong's right hand, burrowing into the ground. The floor beneath their feet shattered as the vines erupted from the ground, spiraling toward Dai Mubai and the others, covering a vast area of over 100 square meters. Dodging in such a space was nearly impossible.
Zuzong was using the Blue Silver Emperor's "scale-armored" form granted by the first soul ring, but he didn't go all out, knowing that Emperor team teacher Qin Ming was watching. He had made it clear that he was a Shrek student and couldn't be too ruthless.
At this moment, the injured Dai Mubai was reminded of the terror of being dominated by Zuzong's Blue Silver Grass.
Meng Yiran felt the same. Though she wanted to avenge her boyfriend Tang San, her Serpent Staff's "Snake Blade" soul skill could barely cut through a few Blue Silver Emperor vines.
In the end, both of them failed to escape and were bound tightly alongside Dai Mubai.
"Fatty, it's up to you," Dai Mubai shouted.
Though the two had been caught off guard and subdued quickly, they weren't without a backup plan. Ma Hongjun, their hidden ace, was ready. Now that Zuzong's soul skill was used up, it was the perfect time to strike.
Ma Hongjun let out a low growl, "Phoenix Possession."
A surge of purple-red light erupted from Ma Hongjun, his short hair growing and gathering at the center into a mohawk. His wings didn't appear, but the heat from his body was palpable. Two yellow soul rings rose beneath his feet, while long feathers extended from his muscular arms, turning his hands into claws.
It was the first time Zuzong had seen Ma Hongjun's "Martial Spirit Possession" up close, and he couldn't help but laugh, clapping his hands, "Pfft, what a transformation—chicken turning into a phoenix."
Furious, Ma Hongjun yelled, "Who are you calling a chicken? Take this—Phoenix Fire Wire!" He raised his hands, his first soul ring glowing as he opened his mouth, spewing a thin stream of purple-red flame toward Zuzong.
The heat distorted the air, and though the flame seemed thin, it stretched out like a flaming whip.
Zuzong casually flipped backward, easily dodging the Phoenix Fire Wire.
"Little fatty, are you trying to be a human tank cannon?" Zuzong chuckled.
"None of your business!" Ma Hongjun roared, maintaining the flame's five-meter length as he swung it horizontally toward Zuzong like a fiery weapon.
Zuzong murmured, "Well then, I won't hold back."
"Second Soul Skill—Blue Silver Blade."
As he spoke, Zuzong controlled the Blue Silver Emperor vines with his soul power.
His second soul ring, a bright yellow, glowed.
Dozens of deep blue vines emerged from the floor of the arena, their tips straightening into sharp blades. In a full 360-degree arc, they shot toward Ma Hongjun.
Ma Hongjun, stunned and sweating, knew that if he were hit, he'd end up like Dai Mubai. But he didn't have Dai Mubai's defensive soul skills.
Without hesitation, he activated both of his soul skills:
"First Soul Skill—Phoenix Fire Wire."
"Second Soul Skill—Bathing Phoenix Fire."
Feeling a bit more confident after using his skills, Ma Hongjun thought, The master said my fire counters plant-based spirits, so this should work.
But the Blue Silver Emperor blades easily cut through the fire and charged at him with undiminished speed.
"Bang, bang."
A series of impacts followed as smoke filled the air where Ma Hongjun stood. It was impossible to see what had happened amidst the dust and debris from the fire and blades.
"Fatty!" Shrek's group, including Yu Xiaogang, shouted in alarm.
Yu Xiaogang turned toward Zuzong in the arena, yelling angrily, "Xiao Zong, you've gone too far!"
Flender, Zhao Wuji, and Zhu Zhuqing remained calm, the first two sensing no killing intent from Zuzong, while Zhu Zhuqing simply trusted him completely.
Zuzong glanced at Yu Xiaogang, ignoring him, then looked toward where Ma Hongjun had fallen. "Hey, hey, little fatty, stop playing dead! Or I'll stab your butt."
"Wait, wait, don't stab me!" The smoke cleared, revealing Ma Hongjun lying on the ground, surrounded by Blue Silver Blades embedded in the floor in a star-like pattern. He hadn't been injured at all.
At the last second, Zuzong adjusted his control, ensuring the blades missed Ma Hongjun entirely.
Seeing that Ma Hongjun was unharmed, the crowd sighed in relief.
"Well, Miss Ning, do you want to step down on your own, or should I help?" Zuzong asked Ning Rongrong.
With nearly all of Shrek's team down—Tang San and Oscar eliminated, Dai Mubai, Meng Yiran, Ma Hongjun, and Zhu Zhuqing subdued—only she, the support-type soul master, remained.
"No, no, no! I'm out of soul power. I'll step down myself," Ning Rongrong immediately surrendered, fully scared.
Zuzong then called to the announcer, "Hey, pretty lady, can you declare the results now?"
The announcer, Dou Dou, snapped out of her daze. Zuzong's performance had been so impressive that she had almost forgotten to announce the outcome. Initially, seeing him flirt with Zhu Zhuqing, she had thought little of him, but his performance completely changed her mind.
"I now officially declare the winners of this team battle—Emperor Team!"
With Dou Dou's announcement, the Emperor Team's journey in Suotuo City's Soul Battle Arena came to an end.
