“I’ve been the main course before. Gideon…” He wasn’t sure what he could possibly say to convince Gideon he was telling the truth, but it didn’t matter. The sudden twinge of warmth in the center of his chest stole his breath. Emma.The heat blossomed beneath his skin, sending sparks of electricity through his veins.

Gideon jerked, as if the sparks shooting through Jesse had leapt through his skin to shock Gideon as well. Then it dawned on Jesse that it probably had. It was difficult for Emma to read vampires, but physical contact made it more than possible, especially with Gideon.

“What the fuck was that?” He wrapped his arms around Jess and simply held him for a moment. It was so like the life he knew that Jesse almost relaxed. “You feel like…”

Jesse wasn’t about to volunteer information. “Feel like what?”

Abruptly, Gideon let him go, stepping back. Jesse turned around as swiftly as he could, but the look of awe in the vampire’s eyes made his hands freeze.
