There was one more invitation he wanted to hand deliver. He pulled to a stop outside of Black John’s house. He suspected that if he merely mailed the envelope, neither Michelle nor John would show up. They weren’t Gideon’s biggest fans.
To see the two-story building from the outside, you never could have guessed that it housed the city’s most powerful mage. But for as long as Jesse had known him, Black John had always worked from his home. It gave him more power, deep, elemental magic that came from years and years of maintaining its threshold. Not that John needed it. He was the strongest practitioner of dark magic that Jesse had ever met, and he had only grown stronger in the past year.
