Christmas with Satan [3/5]

Chapter 03 : Scaring the Devil

"What just happened?" Bayley asked as she removed her hand covering her eyes and squinted her eyes.

Satan glared hatefully at her, as if she was the real devil and he was the pitiful mortal. He gritted his teeth in anger as he didn't want to tell her what happened. It's a terrible blow to his pride but he can neither ignore her nor lie to her.

So he turned his head away and muttered in a low voice. "Since I agreed to fulfill your wish, my pledge was branded into my soul and now I'm bound to it. So from now, I'm your friend. Just as you wished."

"Really?" Bayley asked with an excited voice. She didn't understand anything about the pledge and soul but she clearly heard the words 'From now on, I'm your friend'. And that was what she cared about most. She even forgot how 'scary' he was just a while ago.

She stretched her hand out to him as she spoke with a goofy grin plastered on her face. "Hehe, My name is-"

"I know" The 'merciless one' cut her off with his lame remark as he didn't even bother shaking her hand.

"If we are going to be friends, we should first properly introduce ourselves." Bayley clarified in a strict tone.

"Tch. Fine." The 'obedient one' relented helplessly. He can't deny her either way, so he might as well do it. He then raised his hand and clasped her tiny one in an awkward manner.

"Waa.. your hands are so big! Even bigger than my dad's." Bayley exclaimed in awe.

The 'proud one' simply snorted and ignored her.

"Alright, I will go first. My name is Bayley Rose Martinez. I'm seven years old and I'm from Sunshine Valley."

"Satan, several aeons old. I'm from Underworld." The 'moody one' answered in a half-hearted manner.

"Satan? Such a weird name? Don't you have any middle and last names?"

'That's what caught your attention?'

"No."

"Can I call you Satan? You can call me Bayley."

"Whatever."

"Hey Satan. Are you hungry? Because I am." She placed her hands on her stomach and gave him an awkward smile. She then grabbed his palm with both her hands and walked towards the dining hall. "Come let's eat, I didn't eat dinner last night either. Mrs. Wellington made all my favorite dishes."

She dragged the poor devil to the large dining table and went around and sat in her usual chair. She then patted the chair beside her and gestured for him to sit as she prepared two plates and filled them with different dishes.

"I don't eat." He replied, as he stared at the plate which was piled with many things while the little girl's plate only had a few things in small quantity.

'What's with that amount of food? What does she think I am? Even if you gather all the food in this world, it's not enough to sate my hunger.'

Bayley let out an 'oh' in understanding and didn't bother him further. He was a devil, so of course he won't eat human food. He nonetheless sat himself in the opposite chair as he curiously watched her eat.

Bayley felt a bit uncomfortable as she looked at him from time to time as if she was hesitating to say something. Finally, she couldn't bear it anymore as she raised her head and look the devil who was watching her eat.

"Can I ask you something?" She put down her plate and spoke.

The 'shameless one' realized what he was doing and immediately turned away. "I'll stop looking."

"Can you make me fly again." Bayley's asked sheepishly. "Before, you were all scary so I couldn't even move. But I want to know how it would feel like to be able to fly in the sky…" She sighed as she began imagining herself flying through the clouds.

Satan snorted. That's it?

He waved his hand slightly and Bayley rose into the air gently, hovering above her chair. She quickly came out her dreams as she realized what was happening and she squealed in joy.

"Aaaaaa… Im flying!" She rose higher in the air and drifted around the dining table, her laughter echoing in the lonely house. "Ahahaha, Im flying! Im flying!"

She then disappeared from the dining hall and flew all around the large house but wherever she went, Satan was there before her. As the excitement and joy of flying slowly subsided, she realized many things.

"So you really are a devil, huh?" Bayley drawled, as she flew circles around the 'annoyed one'. Then she suddenly halted in mid-air. "Wait ,since you exist, does that mean Santa also exists?"

That name caused him to be extremely irritated and he didn't want to answer but he had no choice, so grumbled hatefully.

"He should be… lying somewhere."

"Can I meet him?" Bayley asked hopefully, her eyes glowing excitedly. She flew in front of the 'bored one' and clasped her hands together as she asked in an cute manner. "Satan, will you please, please take me to see Santa?"

'Ugh… I don't want to see that bastard but… Ah fine, its all that damn geezer's fault. He should pay for it too.' An evil smirk formed on his face as he looked at his 'friend.'

"Alright let's go." He answered, hatching all sorts of plans in his mind.

"Yay!"Bayley did a somersault in the air before she spoke again. "Can we fly there? Flying here in the house does not feel good. I want to fly in the skies."

Satan looked at her helplessly. "You can, but with your speed, it will take you at least one hour of your time. Are you sure about it?"

Bayley looked at the clock reading quarter to three. Two hours to go there and come back, and even if she chatted with Santa for an hour there, it'll be three hours. That would mean she should be back by six o'clock. Since her mom said they would be back before she woke up, that would be around seven o'clock.

Okay, its perfect.

After doing all the calculations, Bayley turned to Satan and smiled. "That's fine, let's go."

Satan nodded and the next instant they were outside Bayley's house. He pointed towards a direction in the air and spoke. "Fly in that direction and after about an hour you will be at that Whitebeard's hideout."

"Wait, you are not coming with me?" Bayley asked, frowning.

The devil shook his head casually. "No, I hate flying. I will directly meet you there." Seeing the worried look on her face, he further added. "Don't worry, I will be watching you all the time. You won't get lost."

"But- But, why can't we fly together? It'll be boring to fly alone. C'mon… Please, let's fly together."

"I can't fly." Satan answered, much to the confusion of Bayley.

He made her able to fly, so why can't he make himself fly. And he was a devil too. Flying should be an easy thing to a devil.

The 'smart one' knew what she was thinking, so he answered without any reservations. "My wings are… sealed. So I can't fly even if I want to." he crossed his arms as he tried to touch his back as his eyes dimmed.

"Then I will help you fly." Bayley replied firmly, as she flew in front of him and grabbed his hand. She then rose in the air as she tried to pull Satan up into the air with her.

And despite using all her strength, Satan stayed rooted to the ground. But she didn't give up either, as she kept on trying to pull him up without any other thought.

Seeing her whole hearted effort, Satan felt moved but he quickly shook his head. "Stop it. You are flying because of my power, so there is no way you could pull me up. That would be absurd… and impossible."

"Im flying… and talking… to a… devil!" She spoke between her struggle. "Anything… is possible. I believe… you can… fly."

The 'depressed one' dropped his head and sighed at her childishness and foolishness. His wings were sealed for eons by the one above, there was no way a weak human can defy the will of heaven.

Then there was a fluttering sound and the wind picked up as white feathers fell down in front of him. Satan raised his head up and was astonished at what he saw.

Wings…

White wings…

Two pure white wings.

Before he could realize what was happening, he felt his feet leave the ground. Just a few inches off ground, but he was still shocked speechless.

He looked at the girl in air with two beautiful white wings behind her back. So pure he couldn't keep his gaze on it without feeling a burning sensation all across him.

He who was made of fire and controls hellfire, was experiencing the burning sensation on him. This made him perplexed. He never would've dared to fathom something of this sort.

But that was it. Her pure soul formed into wings behind her back and lifted him off ground, but her strength was still insufficient to let him freely soar through skies. But he was still surprised by his new 'friend'.

Bayley was burning every ounce of strength in her and the wings behind were now fully open displaying their superiority and majesty.

"YOU. WILL. FLY. WITH. ME!!" She let out roar in desperation and a formless shock wave blasted out from her, raging the wind in the surroundings.

And then there were more fluttering sounds. Much louder and piercing.

Satan's eyes widened as he trembled from his core and he was overwhelmed with fear and reverence.

Four… Four white wings!

High… A high angel!

In this mortal realm…

Burning her essence to help a fallen angel fly again!
