T. rex Trouble

It has been two days since Chris, Kate, and Emily ended up on DinoIsle and for the time being, they have found a way to survive in this lost world the absolute best they can. For they have been able to find shelter in one of several caves, as well as collect material they could use to get their charter boat back to the water. Even so, they have yet to find a way to move the boat due to how big it is compared to them.

"Alright, I'm out of ideas," Chris sighed in defeat. "We've exhausted nearly every idea from making a pulley system, to something as simple as a battering ram."

"Don't remind me," Kate added as she looked through every blueprint she and her friends could think of. "We just simply lack the proper tools we could use to make any device that can help us get the boat back to being sea-worthy."

As the couple contemplated their dilemma, their bubbly friend Emily busied herself cradling the dinosaur egg they had collected. They have yet to prepare it as a dish, due in part to the fact that they had little time to even try and cook it. When she noticed how her best friends seem to be feeling down, the happy-go-lucky young lady suddenly thought of an idea before placing the egg back in Chris's backpack.

"You know…," Emily proceeded to suggest. "It's such a lovely day today, we could go for a little stroll to clear our heads."

"Well…why not," Chris shrugged as he grabbed his backpack. "A little fresh air would be nice."

"I agree," Kate smiled at Emily's idea. "Let's just make sure to head back here when it gets dark."

"Okey-Dokey then," Emily cheered. "Let's get going!"

So, the trio left their cave so they could begin their little stroll. Sure enough, the stroll was quite a peaceful one as Chris, Kate, and Emily walked across the primeval forest and came upon an opening. Once they stopped to rest, the three friends noticed that several diverse types of dinosaurs were enjoying the rich pickings that the forest had to offer. Among them was a mixed herd of duck-billed dinosaurs, consisting of the long-crested Parasaurolophus and the round crested Hypacrosaurus. There is also a pair of Styracosaurus, sharing a shrub filled with edible current berries. While further down, a small flock of Ornithomimus forage for any scrap of plant matter and tiny animals they can find.

"You know Chris," Kate stated as she held her boyfriend. "Minus the occasional danger, this place we found is certainly full of wonderful surprises."

"That we can agree on," Chris chuckled as he and Kate shared an enthusiastic kiss.

"Now If only I didn't leave my phone at home," Emily sighed in disappointment. "Because this is something I don't want to forget."

However, this harmonious scene was suddenly interrupted as the local dinosaurs felt a dangerous presence close by and proceeded to run and scatter away from a threat.

"Huh, I wonder what got into them?" Chris asked in confusion.

"Well, it couldn't have been us," Kate replied feeling just as curious. "We're not big enough to appear as a threat."

As the couple thought about the odd behavior of the plant-eating dinosaurs, they suddenly noticed as their friend seemed quiet and shaking nervously.

"What's the matter, Emily?" Chris asked the bubbly girl.

As a response, Emily shakily lifted her right hand and pointed to something behind her friends. Chris and Kate's hearts suddenly dropped to their stomachs when they began to hear a rumbling sound. Turning around, the three friends saw a massive head lifted from its hiding place behind the trees…revealing a massive predatory dinosaur with a mottled reddish brown scaly body, a yellowish underside and deep brown coloration. The meat-eating dinosaur also had some facial scarring on the right side of its face. With tiny two-fingered hands and a massive bone jaw, the trio suddenly realized what this dinosaur was…for they have found themselves face to face with the one and only Tyrannosaurus rex (Ty-ran-no-sore-us rex). In an instant, the mega predator let out a quiet yet horrifying bellow at the three humans who suddenly dodged as the T.rex snapped with its bone-crushing jaws. Sure enough, the three friends found themselves running as fast as they could from the meat-eating dinosaur. But then, Chris tripped on something which caused him to hit the ground hard. Seeing their friend in danger, Kate and Emily tried to head back to help the young man. However, the sight of the incoming T.rex forced the two young ladies to hide behind a nearby tree. As Chris tried to get back to his feet, he found himself face to face with the ferocious T.rex with little idea of what to do.

"Chris…don't move," Emily whispered. "He can't see you if you're not moving."

Following the bubbly girl's advice, Chris stood as still as he could. While a bit confused at the human's action, the T.rex quietly stared at the young man with the intent of striking if the young man dared to flinch.

"Uh Emily," Kate sighed as she proceeded to correct the bubbly young lady. "That theory has been discredited years ago."

"Oh," Emily suddenly realized her blunder. "RUN CHRIS, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!"

With very few options, Chris quickly jumped out of the way of the T.rex just in time to rejoin the ladies in running from the cretaceous killer. As the T.rex continued to chase, the three friends made it to another clearing several seconds before the king of dinosaurs emerged.

"Look over there," Kate pointed towards a row of thick conifer trees and foliage.

With haste, the three friends raced towards the vast trees and dived between two thick trunks. The T.rex barely avoids catching the humans before the tree holds it back by the chest. Struggling, the angry carnivore tries to force its way through. But when it finds it cannot, the T.rex growled at them in fury. After retreating through the thicket of the brush, the three friends tried to put as much distance between them at the dinosaur as possible. Panting for the air, the trio finally came to a stop.

"Ok....," Chris panted from all the running he went through. "I think we lost it for now."

Believing that the danger is over, the three friends feel relieved before proceeding to brush some of the bushes aside. As they did so, they gasped as they came upon a carcass.

As if the situation could not get any worse, the 23-foot-long creature eating off the carcass reared its head. Right in front of the three friends, is the double-crested predator called Dilophosaurus (Di-lo-fo-sore-us). The crest of the primitive dinosaur is dark blue with black stripes, while the body is yellow with a pattern of black spots and blue stripes.

"Uh…should we run for our lives again?" Emily asked her friends.

As if to answer her question, the Dilophosaurus let out a ferocious hiss which prompted the three friends to run away once more while the crested carnivore proceeded to chase them away from its meal. Running back the way they came, Chris, Kate, and Emily gasped in shock as they found themselves face-to-face with the T.rex once more. It was clear that the mega predator managed to break through the trunks of the trees, and it was more than ready to take a bite out of them. However, luck was on the three friends' side as the Dilophosaurus that was now chasing them noticed the larger carnivore in its territory. In an instant, the two carnivores eyed each other in a standoff while Chris, Kate, and Emily took the chance to escape. Once it saw that its quarry had disappeared, the disappointed T.rex reluctantly departed while the relieved Dilophosaurus went back to finish its meal. Making it back to their cave, the trio realized now that they must get off the island while they still can.

"So much for being in paradise," Chris groaned. "We have to get out of here any way we can now!"

"What about finding Amanda?" Emily wondered.

"We'll search for her after we get off this death trap!" Chris assured Emily.

"He's right," Kate nodded. "If we don't get off the island soon, then searching for Amanda will be the one thing we will not be able to do."

"Okay," Emily looked down solemnly.

Realizing what they had said, both Kate and Chris felt bad and proceeded to apologize to their friend.

"Sorry for talking like that Emily," Chris said sadly. "I guess you can say that it's a survival instinct kicking in."

"Same for me," Kate added. "You know very well that we'll never leave without knowing if Amanda is out there somewhere."

"I know," Emily replied as she began to cheer up. "How about we head back to the beach and try to make a signal for someone to find us?"

Astonished by what Emily said, both Chris and Kate face palmed at not thinking about that sooner.

"That's a very good idea, Emily," Kate smiled. "Let's head over there now and get started."

"Great idea Kate," Chris replied. "The sooner we can get out of here, the sooner we can try to find Amanda later on."

"Then what are we waiting for…," Emily Evermore cheered. "Let's go to the beach!"

Just like that, the three friends left for the Saurus Shores…unaware that they still have the egg in Chris's backpack. But either way, the trio was more than determined to get off DinoIsle as quickly and safely as they could.
