“Likewise. Shall we go?”
“You don’t have to do this.”
“Are you really gonna stand on pride? After all you told me?”
Hank grinned and shook his head at his own stupidity. This was a gift. “Guess not.”
“Okay, then stop asking me if I mind. Let’s get you guys taken care of.” Ollie blew out a big sigh. “Listen, Hank, I have always been lucky. I came from a hard-working family that happened to strike it rich, or at least what most people would consider rich. I never wanted for a thing. I always had a safety net, no matter what I did. Mom and Pop were always there to catch me if I went down the wrong path. I have a sneaking suspicion you can’t say the same.”
“Not hardly.”
“Then come on,” Ollie started toward the front door.
As they headed out into the quiet that comes just before dawn, Hank turned to Ollie and said, “Listen, man, someday I’ll pay you back for this. We’ll be square.”
