After exam week, the students at Levels High School were relaxed to the fullest. Not even a single lesson took place.
The teachers were all busy marking the exam papers, and due to this, Mickey found it in himself to not attend school for the whole week.
Who would care if he was there or not? No one! The register wasn't even being marked! Some students were even coming to school drunk!
'The law says no consumption of alcohol for people under the age of 18, but this...'
Mickey looked at the students who sat in the back row together with him.
'Just like back on Earth, it's quite rare to see someone who starts drinking after the age of 18. Most parents simply assume their kids don't drink to protect them. Similarly, when someone loses their virginity, their parents are often the last people to know.'
Mickey scanned his classroom with a jaded look. The blue walls, normally adorned with student projects, were empty due to the exams, which had now finished.
The classroom was incredibly spacious, designed to accommodate more than thirty students, but thanks to students gathering in groups, only a few remained seated, using the internet.
In all honesty, Mickey was bored. He gazed out the large windows, idly naming the types of clouds hanging in the sky.
Alternatively, perhaps he was growing desensitized to being defeated on the battlefield. Although he hadn't won a match, he was starting to get the hang of fighting.
His reaction time had improved, and to hit him one had to put in extra effort. Also, his moves were starting to get coordinated, maybe because he infused taekwondo techniques into his fighting style.
Despite his losing streak that broke the record at the battlefield, his popularity shot through the roof.
This morning, he saw someone selling clothes that were named "Maple Stepping Stone." He even bought one.
This was all due to his big mouth, which always spouted bullyrag at every match.
As someone from Earth, a place boasting over ten thousand comedians, Mickey had a wealth of material to draw from.
Some of these comedians even dared to insult the Presidents of major countries
Mickey's strategy was simple: he copied and shouted out these phrases. For the self-absorbed and narcissistic Book Lords, this tactic worked like a charm.
Hai...
Mickey let out a soft sigh as he stared at a cloud that was shaped like shit. Maybe he was just imagining things.
'There's a clear difference between my original self and Maple Stepping Stone. Originally, I'm not one to talk. Even if someone bothers me, when there's nothing to gain from it, I ignore them.'
'However, Maple Stepping Stone is a loudmouth who prefers taking down his opponents with insults rather than his fists. Someone destined to meet a tragic end!'
A rare smile popped on Mickey's face.
'No one will be able to tell that it is me, that is, as long as I play my cards right.'
Bizz—!
The loud sound of the buzzer pulled Mickey out of his boredom, and he took his backpack before heading to the main hall together with the rest of the last years.
The students' faces were etched with hesitation, but Mickey remained an exception.
He exuded an air of calmness... utterly unbothered by the curious glances directed his way.
On the way, nobody spoke. The pathway to the school hall was connected to the teachers' offices, and here, it was not uncommon for a teacher to physically discipline a student if they were caught misbehaving.
Like a bunch of zombies, the students entered the large bright hall that had sunlight coming from the window walls.
The chairs were neatly arranged in rows, separating the boys, girls, and teachers, who sat near the front stage.
Merit boards were hanging from the high ceiling, which had the names of honor students from Levels High School.
Just like always, Mickey didn't care and sat at the back left seat away from the girls.
His gaze was indifferent, as if the situation about to happen didn't matter.
In his mind, he had a small cry.
'Where am I going to find money to support myself?'
"You don't seem scared, do you, Gu Mickey?" A familiar voice came from beside where he was sitting.
He had sensed the owner the moment he sat next to him, and now seeing him dare to converse with him, Mickey furrowed his brows only for a second. Nonetheless, that was only for a second before he replied,
"Death and an offspring are what scare me..."
The smile on the boy next to Mickey melted like ice cream in the oven.
'Humph, I was only trying to strike up a conversation. No wonder, he is a loner. Everyone is afraid of something! We make friends because we are afraid to be lonely!'
The boy realized that Mickey's type was better off left unbothered. When he feels the pain of being lonely, he will regret every moment they spent pushing others away and start to open up then.
He faked a cough and stated the reason why he sat next to an antisocial person like Mickey,
"I heard you and Jiang Yilin were pretty close when you were young. Some say you even made a promise to marry each other when you were older. How come you have such a bitter relationship these days? Is it because your mother died?"
Mickey didn't appear shocked by what he had just heard. He just kept on resting his chin on his palm.
He knew that he was only close to her when he was four; after that, things crumbled.
He decided to say bullshit.
"Relationships are like an anthill... They take a lot of time and dedication to build, and just one external factor can make the entire structure crumble, destroying everything in its wake."
The boy next to him appeared shocked but still kept his voice down.
"Are you saying someone caused things to be like this? Who?"
There was indeed someone, but putting it into play, one had to blame Mickey for the hatred between the two. However, that did not matter now.
Mickey maintained his silence and shot a glance at the handsome boy before him - The difference in their looks was like heaven and the deepest part of the abyss... If Yi Long Fei is the prince, then Gu Mickey would be a slave, much worse a bandit.
That being said, Mickey wasn't one bit interested in his looks. His body was just a vessel for strength, and he was positive it was going to get messed up in the pursuit of strength.
Yi Long Fei mistook Mickey's gaze.
'Is it something he cannot talk about? Considering how Yilin always cries when she talks about him, it must be something heart-wrenching. Sigh, my only hope of knowing more about Yilin is just letting her tell me herself.'
Although he had eyes for other girls, Yi Long Fei's heart belonged to Jiang Yilin, at the moment . She was a hardworking, beautiful, and a caring person, especially towards her friends.
She embodied the qualities that made her the kind of girl anyone would dream of having.
The blue-eyed boy forced a smile, but Mickey opened his mouth before he could. He could not bring himself to miss this chance.
"Yi Long Fei, it was time. As I grew, I started seeing things from a different view. I am sure you have things you liked when you were a kid that you don't like now. Time is the enemy of all living beings, yet, as living beings, we need time to move."
Yi Long Fei nodded in understanding, and Mickey's lips curled up a bit.
"Before you do anything, make sure you think about the future. When she gets old and wrinkly, would you still love her then?"
"Here's a fact: over 80% of men marry women younger than them, and 8% of those actually marry women who are 16 or more years younger. This is because women tend to age more quickly when they are under marriage stress than men."
"Furthermore, if a woman isn't careful during childbirth, she may lose her figure. Are you prepared to maintain her physical attractiveness even after having four or more children?"
Yi Long Fei narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
'Is he jealous? He must be! He is just saying that so I can have second thoughts about Yilin. How can I let her lose shape? Even if we do not become Book Lords, I will make sure she keeps her sexy figure until she dies!'
The blondie scoffed at Mickey's action.
"Do not worry, I am prepared to be with her till death, although I might have other women along the way."
He showed a faint smile and gloated.
"Today we are going to hit it off at her place. I hope she is different from the other five."
Mickey just looked at him without saying a thing... a devious smile formed in his heart.
'Come on now, say it!'
The two stayed silent for a couple of seconds, and Yi Long Fei could not resist the urge to ask,
"How was she?"
"Huh?"
"Don't play dumb... I know you and Jiang Yilin did it together after the Golden Spring Rain Festival this year. She told me all about it."
All that bullshit about women getting older was so that Yi Long Fei would paint the picture that he was jealous, forcing him to ask this.
Mickey smiled and spoke in a low tone,
"She is the best I ever had, especially when we are in reverse cowgirl mode. She is wild, I tell you. Although it was for a night, we left a number of love bites on each other. I still remember the one I left on her left breast... just near the nipple. I hope it is still there. Also…"
Yi Long Fei's expression turned sour. He would have been perfectly fine if Mickey had said the opposite, but now his words were ruining the idealized image Yi Long Fei had of her.
'How can he even have the guts to say that to my face?'
The average-built man seethed with anger, his fists clenched in a sudden urge to punch Gu Mickey.
...but before he could act, a woman swept into the hall, talking everyone's attention. An unsettling silence fell over the room again, as she strode confidently to the podium.
Her tailored suit was a perfect match for her striking navy-blue eyes, which sparkled with an air of arrogance.
And she had every right to exude confidence - she was Mo Xie, the principal of Levels High School.
Beneath her poised and arrogant exterior, a cauldron of frustration simmered.
'How can his grades improve like that? If I interrupted, then Hugh Qian would have noticed and sentenced me to jail. Sigh… should I call myself lucky that she is not doing anything now, even if she knows how much school development funds I have embezzled and the children I have expelled because they got on my wrong side?'
Mo Xie's jaw clenched at the thought of Gu Mickey being controlled by Hugh Qian, to force her into action.
Alas, there was nothing she could do.
Forcing a smile, she announced,
"Your midterm results were impressive, with the lowest score being 63%. No one will be expelled."
The students clapped their hands and cheered. Their worries were lifted, and they were shocked at how Mickey improved from having an average score of 11% to 63%.
The noise quieted down, and the principal continued,
"As our school's tradition, I will be handing money prizes to the top three students this semester."
Most of the students sighed in disappointment and did not say a thing. They knew who was going to take the first and second positions.
They all took the exams to pass, not to get the spirit coins... even though they needed some.
"Number 3, Jiang Yilin."
Hearing the principal's words, the students had wide-open eyes as they looked at the blond girl going to the podium.
Everyone thought she would get second place, if not first. The 3rd position felt like belittling her efforts.
However, the room remained silent as the principal's anger simmered just below the surface, as she struggled to announce the 2nd place winner.
"Number 2… Gu Mickey."
Mickey's eyes widened in shock.
'What?! But I cheated?!'
He had deliberately scored 97% on each exam, careful not to arouse suspicion.
Maintaining his poker face, he walked to the podium, his gaze locked on the beautiful principal.
A dark desire began to stir within him.
'Isn't this woman rich?! I now found my golden goose!!'
