Besides the academy was a Gu room. The Gu room was not big, it was only sixty meters in size.
In a Gu Master's road to cultivation, a Gu is a key to strength.
At the end of the class, the excited teenagers rushed towards the Gu room.
"Form a line, enter one by one." The guard standing outside the Gu room instructed the students. The youths went in one at a time and came out. Finally, it was Fang Yuan's turn to enter the Gu room.
This room was mysterious. The four walls all had holes; in each one of these embedded square holes were another square hole. Each of the holes differed in size, some big and some small. The bigger ones were no bigger than an earthenware cooking pot, the smaller holes no smaller than a fist.
In the many square holes were all kinds of containers – there were grey stone basins, verdant jade dishes, exquisite grass cages, earthen stoves, etc. These containers contained all kinds of varieties of Gu.
Some Gu were silent, while some Gu made a lot of noises, creating chirping, clucking, rustling sounds, and so on. All these noises combined to create a sort of life symphony.
"Gu is also divided into nine big levels, following the same concept of the nine rank realms of Gu Masters. All the Gu in this room are rank one Gu." Fang Yuan realized this after combing through the memories he inherited. He was able to call out the names of each Gu and their abilities thanks to these memories.
Generally speaking, Rank one Gu Masters can only use Rank one Gu. If they used higher-level Gu, these masters would need to pay an extremely heavy price. In addition, Gu needs to be fed. The high cost of feeding higher-level Gu was often not something lower ranked Gu Masters could afford. Thus to Gu Masters who were newcomers, they would always pick a Rank one Gu worm as their first refined Gu unless under a special situation.
There is great significance to the first Gu that a Gu Master refines – It will become their vital Gu, interconnecting their lives together. If it dies, the Gu master will suffer a huge blow.
One of the top layers of the holes in one of the walls had a row of silver plates. In every plate was a Gu.
These Gu were crystalline and shaped like a crescent; it was like a piece of blue quartz. Against the backdrop of the silver dish, the Gu gave off a quiet and beautiful feeling.
Known as the Moonlight Gu, this variety of Gu was the local Gu of the Gu Yue clan and many of the clansmen would choose the Moonlight Gu as their vital Gu. The Moonlight Gu was not a Gu of nature; it was a breed that was cultivated with a secret method by the Gu Yue clan. The Moonlight Gu could not be found anywhere else; it could be said that this Gu was a symbol of the Gu Yue clan.
Since it was all Rank one Moonlight Gu, there was very little difference among one another. Fang Yuan casually chose one and took it. With one last look and finding nothing wrong with it, Fang Yuan put the Moonlight Gu into his pocket and walked out of the Gu room. Outside the Gu room, the queue was still quite long. As soon as the next person in line saw Fang Yuan leave, he went into the room hurriedly with excitement.
If it were others, when they got their Gu the first thing they would do, would be to take it home and quickly refine it. But Fang Yuan was not in a hurry to do so, for his mind was thinking about the next steps he needed to take to get all the Gu worms from the Flower Wine Monk's inheritance as soon as possible.
Even though Fang Yuan had already gotten his hands on Liquor Worm he still decided to choose a Moonlight Gu. This was because he had decided to slowly start forming a complete combat system for himself from now itself, only then will he be able to face off against enemies who are stronger than himself in the future. Unlike most people in this world who have a proper family and clan to watch their backs and retreat to, Fang Yuan didn't have anything like that. In a few years at most once he gets his hands on the required Gu worms that he had planned and rises his cultivation to an adequate level he would leave this village. Hence before that, he needed to be adequately prepared.
Fang Yuan currently had three Gu worms – Spring Autumn Cicada, Liquor Worm, and Invoke Lust Gu. None of these Gu worms were of any use when it came to combat, that was why he decided to select a Moonlight Gu. Besides he couldn't show any of these Gu worms to claim the reward of twenty primeval stones for being first in the refinement assessment now could he?
While thinking of this Fang Yuan went straight for the tavern after he left the Gu room.
"Shopkeeper, a jar of aged wine!" Fang Yuan took out a small piece of primeval stone and placed it on the counter.
Every few days he would come here to buy a jar of wine, of course, it was not for himself but the Liquor Worm, but others would naturally think that he was buying it for himself. As such a sort of image of him had formed in people's minds – that of a drunkard fallen genius. This couldn't be helped when he was living back with his Aunt and Uncle he would have Shen Cui sneak in a jar for him every night, but now he could only use the little amount of money that he had fooled out from Mother Shen to buy the wine from here every once in a while. But he would not buy it every day, sometimes he would buy it every other day, other times once every four days. The rest of the days he would buy it from the system, this was to prevent anyone from suspecting him. He remembered reading in the book that this was a clue which Tie Ruo Nan had noticed after learning about the past of the Gu Yue clan from the records (fight of Fourth Gen and Flower Wink Monk) and thereby connecting it to Liquor Worm in the Flower Wine Monk's inheritance. As such to prevent anything like that from happening he only bought wine every alternate day or every three days and on these days he would not return to his dorm at night, thereby making people think that he had probably passed out from drinking outside.
