The DHA Entrance Exam (3)

In a secluded area of the island, stood a stadium looking building; the stadium was filled with spectators and some of the students of the academy, who came to watch the events of the exam.

At the center of the stadium was a large hovering cube, with screens on all sides, which projected the actions of each of the examinees. Apart from that, the green light beacon that was visible throughout the island was coming from a special device that was placed on top of the stadium.

The stadium had a VIP section, which housed the head teachers and the student council.

"I have to say, the candidates this year are really impressive." A bald headed, brown skinned guy, with a muscular body build, that threatened to tear his outfit said, as he looked at the large hovering screen.

"Please, there is nothing impressive about killing some weak demonic beasts." A beautiful white haired lady, with white hair and deep blue eyes, replied back.

"This is clearly a waste of my precious time." The beautiful white haired lady, continued in annoyance.

They were currently watching an exam candidate, who was advancing really fast towards the green light beacon. This exam candidate was quite tall and had a jet black long hair; another fact to mention was that this candidate was just punching his way through a horde of multiple demonic beasts, without using a single weapon. His progression was fast, that it'd take him a few more minutes to reach the green beacon.

Further away, a similar thing was happening but in a less impressive way. Carl and Ray were fighting against a wave of multiple types of demonic beasts, and the truth of the matter was that they weren't really progressing; if anything, they felt cornered.

"I can't keep this up any longer; my arms are killing me." Carl said, as he sliced down a bat looking demonic beast.

"Why did you have to use all five of the explosive arrows; one would have done the trick."

"Hey, don't go blaming it on me; we were in a really desperate situation back there." Ray replied.

After the explosion, they managed to cross over to the other side of the cliff. They wanted to proceed to the location of the beacon, but they were welcomed by what seemed to be an endless horde of demonic beasts.

They had been fighting the demonic beast for almost an hour now, and they were clearly stressed out.

"If this continues, we'll be done for; ugh, I'm tired of this shit!!" Carl shouted in annoyance.

"Ray can you support me with your arrows, cause I'm about to do something crazy."

"Wait… what level of "crazy" are we talking about here?" Ray asked while shooting down a demonic beast.

"It's the super crazy kind." Carl said, as he dashed head on into the beast horde

Kelvin looked at the direction he heard the gun shot from. He looked behind him, and saw a girl standing on top of a tree branch. She jumped and twisted in the air, before landing gracefully and unharmed.

The girl had a long, red dyed hair; she also had a beautiful set of hazel colored eyes that were nicely adorned with glasses. She wore the same blue track suit, and was heavy armed with different types of guns and fire arms.

'Wow… she killed it with just a single shot.' That was Kelvin's thought as the girl walked closer to him.

"Umm…. Thanks for saving me; I really appreciate it."

The girl ignored him. She walked right pass him and went to the dead demonic beast, and shot it on the chest a few times.

"I didn't save your sorry ass; I only did this to earn more points." The girl said in a cold and harsh tone.

"Now if you will excuse me, I have an exam to pass." With that, the girl left the scene.

'I don't want to sound like a jerk right now, but with her gun power, I might actually have a chance at passing this stupid exam.' Kelvin thought to himself.

So with that thought in mind, Kelvin decided to follow the girl. After a long run, he finally managed to catch up with her and said:

"Hey, umm… Sorry but I didn't get your name."

"I don't disclose my name to strangers." The girl replied.

"That's a little harsh; we are partaking in the same exam, so that means if we both pass, there might be a good chance that we will be great friends in the future." Kelvin said, in the most convincing voice he could think of.

The girl stopped and looked at Kelvin for a brief moment, before letting out a quick sigh.

"I'll tell you my name, but in return, you have to stop following me."

"Okay, deal."

The girl was a bit hesitant to say her name, but after sometime, she said:

"My name is Nao Kaito. Now can you leave me in peace?"

"It's nice to meet you; my name is Ken Wilson."

"I don't care; just leave me be." Nao retorted back.

After walking for a while, Nao stopped and turned, only to see Kelvin standing behind her.

"You know, the rules didn't say anything against killing a fellow exam candidate." Nao said as she pointed her 9mm pistol to Kelvin.

"Whoa!! Slow down. We are just heading to the same direction; you know the green beacon." Kelvin said quickly.

He remembered the splattered head of the demonic beast and he seriously didn't want the same thing to happen to him; so he quickly added:

"Hey, why don't I just tag along; I'll watch your back and you watch mine, you know classic comrade stuff."

Nao lowered her gun and continued walking. Kelvin let out a sigh of relief

"Thank goodness; I thought she was definitely going to shoot me. This girl is really intimidating." Kelvin said in his mind as he followed Nao.

Kelvin and Nao continued with the exam; they encountered some demonic beast on their way, but they quickly killed them. It turned out that they actually make a good team. Kelvin would use his demon weakening sword to weaken the demonic beasts, thereby giving Nao the chance to finish them off with her gun.

All that didn't really change the fact that Nao was still cold towards Kelvin. In fact, from Kelvin's point of view, she was cold towards everything; he had seen her kill demonic beasts ruthlessly and without any hint of mercy on her face.

After killing another set of demonic beast, Kelvin asked Nao a question that had been bothering him for a while now.

"Err…Nao; sorry to bother you but how many points do we get for killing each demonic beast? The echoing voice didn't say anything about it."

Kelvin was expecting an answer or maybe a comment of some sort; but after waiting for a while and not hearing a word from Nao, he started to get the feeling that she wouldn't answer his question at all. So he was quite surprised when she answered.

"The academy did something similar, during last year's exam. The exam last year was a battle royal tournament were we earned points for defeating our fellow examinee; and just like the exam this year, we weren't told the number of points we earned."

Nao stopped talking for a while to reload her gun, and after that she continued,

"I believe the academy implemented such methods to test our commitment; to see how far we can go to earn more points despite not knowing the point threshold."

The rustling of a bush ended the conversation abruptly; Nao quickly switched to an assault rifle and aimed it at the bush. Kelvin tightened his grip on his sword and positioned himself for an attack.

The rustling in the bush continued until a small squirrel looking creature emerged from the bush.

"It's just a squirrel, nothing to worry about." Kelvin said, lowering his weapon; however, Nao was on high alert and still had her rifle pointed to the squirrel.

"Don't tell me you plan on killing such a cute looking squirrel; that's animal cruelty and I won't allow you to do that. I mean look at its cute little bushy tail and puppy dog eyes."

"There is nothing cute about that beast." Nao said.

Kelvin was about to reprimand her, but stopped when he noticed a strange action from the squirrel.

The squirrel's body began to convulse violently; its body was twisting in a very abnormal and unusual way and gradually it began to grow in size, until it was as large as a normal brown bear, with a robust body structure.

The cute image Kelvin saw from the squirrel like beast quickly vanished and was replaced by a more hideous monster with fangs as large as a human fist.

The large squirrel looking beast gave out an ear piercing scream, which vibrated throughout the island.

After that, a rumbling of multiple footsteps could be heard and both Kelvin and Nao saw multiple trees falling down in the distance; Nao looked at Kelvin with troubled look and said:

"We are so screwed."
