Chapter 33: Kellen Galloway
"You Bastard!" roared the man
"How dare you disrespect the honour of Lady celestine!"
As the man spoke, a terrifying aura of a Peak Transcendent apprentice radiated around him as a furious golden glow wrapped around his fist.
'Ayo!' thought Oswald
'This is just going too far!'
As Oswald realised what was happening, he felt greatly aggrieved.
Not only did he get face slapped in public, but he was also going to get physically beaten on top of it!
What the hell!?!
When did his protagonist halo deteriorate into that of a low-tier villain?
Seeing things turn in a bad direction Oswald quickly tried to diffuse the situation.
"Look here friend there seems to be a misunderstanding here. I was never looking to disrespect the priestess"
But even with Oswald's explanation, all it got from the man was a cold snort.,
"You actually expect me to believe such words" sneered the man
"Today I'll teach you a lesson you won't forget"
But before the man could finish speaking, he was quickly interrupted by an exasperated voice
"Kellen, you need to calm down! You know with our standing in the dawn church, it would be completely impossible for us to fight this boy."
As soon as Kellen heard the words of Priestess Celestine, his eyes shone. In his mind, those words quickly confirmed the suspicion that he had gotten.
It's not that Lady celestine didn't want to teach the kid a lesson, but just because of her standing in the dawn church and her strength as a Rank 2 Transcendent it would be too inappropriate for her to start fighting a small noble like Oswald.
In Kellen's eyes, Priestess Celestine's words were not a way for him to stop, but a secret hint, a test even.
A test to see if he would fight for her!
As soon as Kellen realised this, his heart started beating faster!
He had always felt a thing for Celestine. although Celestine was a few years older than him and thus a higher ranking Transcendent, Kellen was no slouch of his own.
He was the most talented Paladin apprentice in recent years and had no doubts that, within a few years, he would be able to catch up to her.
In his eyes, he and her made the perfect couple, but for some strange reason, no matter how he asked, he would always be rejected by Priestess Celestine. But Kellen had never given up hope that one day he would be able to win the heart of Celestine and even if this wouldn't do it would at least put him one step closer.
With such an opportunity placed in front of him, Kellen would never reject it!
With a solemn look in his eyes, Kellen turned towards Celestine as he spoke.
"Don't worry, Lady Celestine, I won't embarrass you or let you down!"
As both Oswald and Celestine heard this, they both breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that Kellen had caught the memo and would drop the matter as everyone wanted. But just as they were about to relax, Kellen's giant figure walked right up to Oswald as the surging aura of a Peak Tier Paladin apprentice exploded out, attracting the attention of everyone in the ballroom including the attention of a Few Transcendents in the room.
Suddenly, Kellen's thunderous voice shook the room.
"Bastard for defiling the honour of Priestess Celestine, I Kellen Galloway challenge you to a duel!"
The second the shout sounded across the ballroom, there was a brief silence before the ballroom erupted into chatter.
A duel!
No entertainment arranged could compare to this!
It's just that contrary to the other people's excitement, Oswald and Celestine were filled with completely different emotions.
'Is... is this guy a fucking idiot?'
That was the thought running through both of their heads. Right now, they both wondering how someone could be so stupid!
Neither Oswald nor Celestine wanted this, and they had thought Kellen had also realised this. That's why they were so shocked when Kellen randomly pulled this out of nowhere!
Celestine, in particular, was quite annoyed. Due to the recent state of murders and massacres in the city, the higher ups in the church have been trying to get along with the nobles and get into as little conflicts as possible with them, in an effort to work together and solve their issue.
That was the reason that Celestine and the rest of the Dawn church had even come to this ball in the first place all to foster better relations.
It's just that Celestine was completely unable to stand the snobbish nature of nobles and had handed over the talking to Kellen and the others, preferring to stay in a much more secluded section of the ball and snack on some sweets.
If it wasn't for Oswald running his mouth and pushing her buttons, she really would have let things slide. It was just that Oswald had pushed his luck too far and rekindled her annoyance for nobles and ended up getting his face slapped as a result.
That was supposed to be the end of things, but that idiot, Kellen, took things a step further, publicly declaring a duel. The bastard even had the audacity to make it one in her honour!
Oswald, on the other hand, wasn't doing much better.
He had tried to constantly defuse the situation, but he was treated like air and not even regarded.
Damn! Did people really see him as just a joke?!
Oswald's head turned around to look at Celestine with a pair of greatly annoyed eyes. Sure, he had annoyed her a little, but he had already been publicly face slapped. Wasn't this already enough, so why did she need to still send someone to duel him?
But as Oswald was glaring at Celestine, he soon heard a soft voice ring out in his mind.
"Boy, quickly reject the duel. There's no need to fight. If you do so, I can promise that Kellen will no longer harm you."
Oswald was shocked by this new development, not just because of the fact there was a random voice in his head but also because he recognised this voice
