Final Selection

Narrator Pov:

The host took a look at all the participants and spoke, "I welcome you all to The Final Selection Exam. I won't waste your time, and I will get straight to the point, to pass you must go past this point, and you must survive for 7 days, I wish you luck."

Tsuki and everyone else bowed, and went past him up in the mountains, all the participants went different ways, all except Rengoku and Tsuki.

"Anenokoji-san, I know you said to meet after the exam, but I couldn't help but worry! So I thought perhaps we could team up?" Rengoku suggested enthusiastically, Tsuki didn't think much of it, and responded "Sure."

The two went on their way, and it didn't take long for them to encounter demons, two of them.

"AHAHAHA, FOOD, FOOD, HUMAN MEAT!"

"HEY, YOU BASTARD GET LOST! I FOUND THEM FIRST!"

"Flame Breathing: First form: Unknowing Fire!" Rengoku yelled, and dashed forward at the speed invisible to the untrained eye and decapitated one of them, while the other demon had already made it's way to Tsuki, who stood still.

As the demon was about to attack... The world suddenly tilted.

"Moon Breathing: First Form: Dark Moon, Evening Palace."

Tsuki drew his blade and in the blink of an eye, and he decapitated the abomination.

'Moon Breathing... First time I've heard of it.' Rengoku thought, fascinated by his friend's technique.

"Beautiful!" Rengoku commented as he made his way towards Tsuki.

"Thank you, your Flame Breathing is also quite fascinating." Tsuki returned the compliment as Rengoku laughed a bit.

"Hey, Rengoku-san... I know that the host said to survive for 7 days, but why not cleanse the mountain from demons?" Tsuki asked, Rengoku hesitated for a bit, "I was gonna ask that myself! But you beat me to it! But are you sure you can handle it?!"

Tsuki chuckled seeing his new... Friend worrying about him, "Don't you worry a bit, I wouldn't have suggested it, if I couldn't handle it."

Rengoku laughed out loud, "All right then! Let's get to it!" Tsuki nodded and in the next second they both disappeared.

The two didn't see each other much, after that days passed as Tsuki encountered at least 4 demons every night, while saving some other participants, of course, there were some he couldn't save.

Right now... It was the night of the 6th day, soon the exam would be over.

Tsuki was running through the forest, as he heard the sound of 2 different people yelling then followed by the sound of hysterical laughter.

Immediately, he changed his course and ran to the place where the noise was coming from, it didn't take long for him to arrive to his destination.

A boy his age was breathing heavily and looking forward with terror in his eyes, he had a peach-colored hair with lavender eyes and scar on his face.

Right in front of him, was a young girl of short stature with black hair and blue eyes, she was in slightly better condition than the boy behind him.

Though, what caught his eye were the 2 fox masks that the two of them wore.

He deduced that the sound of yelling came from them, as for the sound of the hysterical laughter... It came from the demon that the two of them were facing.

The demon they were facing was... Humongous, it had a lot of arms covering it's neck, and a lot more it used for attacking.

'I see, why they couldn't defeat it, the hand it uses to cover the neck... I assume they couldn't cut through that, and were defeated in the process.' Tsuki thought as he observed the situation, he then calmly walked up behind them, the boy was surprised and tried to warn him, "DONT! THAT DEMON ISN'T SOMETHING WE CAN HANDLE RUN WHILE YOU CAN!" Tsuki didn't pay any attention to him and continued walking forward.

He tapped the girls shoulder, "Rest, I will take it from here." The girl slumped down on the ground.

"Oho? Another brat, shame you aren't That damn Urokodaki's student, I won't complain, meal is still a meal!" the demon laughed, Tsuki sighed, "Don't overestimate yourself."

The demon was enraged seeing how a bat not even half his size was looking down at him, and immediately attacked, but his hand touched nothing but air, as Tsuki had already disappeared.

"See? I told you not to overestimate yourself." Tsuki said as he stood on his shoulder and unsheathed his Katana, and before the monstrous Hand demon could react, "Moon Breathing: Third Form: Loathsome Moon, Chains." Tsuki swung his sword two times, each time sending a gigantic crescent slash, one was used to destroy the hand covering the neck, and the other to sever the neck.

'Well... That was disappointing.' Tsuki thought before glancing at the two he saved, they were looking at him in awe.

'One attack...? All it took was only one attack... Damn... I'm so weak.' The boy though as he clenched his fists and grinded his teeth.

Tsuki walked up to the two of them and introduced himself, "Name's Anenokoji Tsuki, what about you?"

"...Sabito, just call me Sabito, this is Makomo." The boy named Sabito introduced himself and his companion.

"Are you able to walk? On your own?" Tsuki asked the both of them and they shook their heads, they were too exhausted to walk.

"Haha! Anenokoji-san it's good to see you again!" Tsuki looked at the direction the voice was coming from and saw a very familiar face.

"It's good to see you too... Rengoku-san."

"It seem you made new friends! Hello! I am Rengoku Kyojuro! Pleasure to meet you!"

Sabito and Makomo were taken aback by his... Uniqueness.

"Ah, yeah I'm Sabito it's a pleasure. And thi-"

"Makomo, my name is Makomo, nice to meet you Rengoku-san, Anenokoji-san." Makomo spoke for the first time, since Tsuki saved them.

"Rengoku-san, Final Selection should be ending by now right? Help me carry them, they are too exhausted." Tsuki spoke to Rengoku who nodded and offered his hand to Makomo while Tsuki did the same for Sabito.

The four of them, walked towards the place where they started in silence, before Sabito asked, "Anenokoji-san... How did you become so strong?"

Tsuki smiled a bit, remembering how much he used to train, to chase after the unknown swordsman in his dreams.

"Don't doubt your strength, believe in yourself, and train hard to chase after your dream. That's all." Tsuki answered, hiding the part about the man in his dreams, for obvious reasons.

Sabito clenched his teeth and just nodded, 'Looks like fighting that demon made him realize his weakness... Right now he has two choices, Retire or... Overcome his weakness and become strong.' Tsuki thought as they finally arrived towards the start.

The amount of people that passed, was a bit smaller than the amount of people that they started with.

"Sabito! Makomo!" a voice called out to the two, they turned their head to the side and noticed a boy with a bandage on his head run towards them.

"Your friend I assume?" Tsuki asked the two, as they smiled and nodded.

"Giyu, I'm so glad you're okay." Sabito spoke to the boy called Giyu and hugged him, Makomo also joined the group hug, as Tsuki and Rengoku smiled at the sight.

"I congratulate you all, you've passed the Final Selection, you are all now Demon Slayers, I see that some of you are now regretting ever taking this exam, I understand, to those who no longer wish to be a demon slayer, you're free to leave, no one will stop you."

With that said, many people left, only 9 people stayed.

"To those who have stayed, I congratulate you once again, you're all now Mizunoto, the lowest ranked slayers. First things first we have assigned to you all a Kasugai Crow, the crows will deliver missions for you to complete and you can use them for communicating as well."

The sounds of the crows were heard as each participant, had a crow sitting on their shoulders.

"With that said and done, now you all must choose an ore, to make your own weapon."

The host said as he laid down 6 different ores for us to choose from, the now slayers all formed a fine line, and each of them chose the ore they wished for their weapon to be made out of.

"It was nice meeting you two, but we have to get going, our teacher will be worried if we are late... Also, thank you, for saving us." Sabito thanked and bowed to us and without turning back they left.

"It seems the only we are left! Anenokoji-san! I will get going too! Wanna stay over at my home?!" Rengoku turned to Tsuki and asked, seemed like he wouldn't take no for an answer, Tsuki hesitantly answered, "I'm not sure I don't want to trouble you." hearing his answer made Rengoku laugh, "Nonsense! Come!" Tsuki shrugged, "Well, If you insist."

"I insist! Let's go!" Rengoku led the way and his new friend followed behind.
