The Experience

Standing in the slight breeze Soren decided to get it over with.

He thanked Lir for the pill and walked a few feet away, turned to face the forest, and sat down.

"Wait. Here's a knife for when you're done." Lir proceeded to make a knife out of compacted water and threw it over, landing just a foot away from Soren.

"Seen too many miserable deaths after the pill was taken. Do good to succeed." He wasn't ever too happy to watch this part, but his job required nothing to go wrong with this process.

Soren smiled a little and nodded towards him, turning back around he looked at the pill in his hand.

'Do good to succeed huh? I wonder what he means by that.'

Hesitantly, he put the pill on his tongue, feeling the smooth texture that had no taste and swallowed.

For a moment nothing happened, but then an indescribable explosion happened inside his body. The energy oddly didn't go through his body instead shooting straight into his mind.

The first emotion he felt was sadness. A sadness so great and depressing it shouldn't have been possible. It felt like his entire world had shattered into a million irreparable pieces, leaving him utterly alone and devoid of hope. Memories of his parents, who had passed away when he was young, flooded his mind. Getting ice cream at the park, just his parents and him.

All the memories he had shared with them and how he would never get another chance. Left in the world to fight by himself. It all hurt far more than any physical pain could accomplish.

The second emotion was blinding envy. It consumed him like a raging fire, burning away any semblance of rational thought. It was the kind of envy that twisted one's insides into knots, clawing at his heart with a tiger's ferocity.

He couldn't help but compare himself to others, those who seemed to effortlessly possess everything he could ever desire. Having parents, and just someone to rely on and tackle life with. Their success, their happiness, and their seemingly perfect lives taunted him, mocking his own shortcomings. It felt like the whole world was against him and his happiness.

The third emotion was less of an emotion, but a primal desire for blood. It surged through his veins like a savage beast, awakening an insatiable hunger within him. It was a visceral urge, luring him into embracing violence and unleashing his primal instincts upon the world. His senses sharpened, his muscles tensed, and a feral intensity ignited within his eyes. It was as if a dormant predator had been awakened within him.

Instead of taking it out on himself though, he wanted someone else to die. Their blood and guts on the floor. Life emptying from their eyes slowly and painfully.

The beast turned around facing Lir with bloodshot eyes. It no longer had a mind or will of its own, just a primal instinct to kill.

Lir looked at the situation unfolding with an incredulous expression, 'Not only are the emotions he's going through more intensified than others I've witnessed. It's even about his own life and experiences instead of some random person.'

He felt lucky to get someone so interesting from the candidates.

The beast got on all fours and dashed at Lir. The distance between the two was only six feet wide, so he was upon him in a moment trying to tackle the man in blue.

Lir sidestepped thinking about what he should do. They weren't allowed to kill the participants themselves thus creating a dilemma.

'Just a mindless beast now.'

He walked at a normal pace toward the knife he threw earlier while mindless Soren recovered and turned around. Starting his attack again in a similar fashion.

Each time it only took a small step to the side to dodge the clawless beast.

Reaching down he picked the knife up and dug its handle into the solid dirt ground. The knife now pointed out of the ground like a spike reaching seven inches off the ground.

With but another step, he stood on the other side of the knife opposite to the beast.

"Come on Soren, I'll allow you to sleep again," Lir said with pity.

Hearing the name Soren, the beast froze for a moment. Recognizing the word but not knowing what to do with it. Instead, he followed what was easy, and ran towards Lir again hoping to tear him to shreds.

As he jumped over the knife which was directly beneath his head at this moment. Lir disappeared and reappeared only a few inches from the beast's side. He raised his arm in that fraction of a second and swung down. Forcing the beast down, landing straight on the knife, impaling the head directly.

Aggression and bloodlust faded away and were replaced with blissful pain. Seconds later his eyes went blank completely, lifeless.

With a tinge of sadness in his voice, Lir said, "Hopefully you will be happier and not have to harbor so much sadness or envy in the future."

He then turned away and blinked out of existence very similar to teleportation.
