DEATH'S OWN

Born with an unusual birthmark, the shape of a skeleton’s head with rose patterns round about it on her neck, many believed she would only bring bad luck to those around her. This belief was solidified when two of her suitors died unexpectedly right after a visit to her home. Such a thing should come as a bother to any woman but the same could not be said about Nyx. She didn't care if the beliefs about her were true or false. She never liked any of her suitors. Her heart had always been longing for a certain man whom she was very familiar with in her childhood but ceased to appear before her the moment she entered adolescence. Since she knew him one thing was very certain about him, he was not human since he never aged. Not even once. Believing he would one day come again, Nyx was prepared to wait until the day they would meet again. But not everything goes as planned. Having a sickly mother whose only wish was to see her daughter get married and an influential suitor who didn't mind the deaths around her, Nyx soon found herself married off and her mother passed away leaving a father who dreaded her existence and a husband she never loved. **** From a distance he watched her grow, keeping his distance from her, staying within the shadows. As she aged slowly into adulthood, the mark on her neck became more prominent and so was her scent. He wanted her to grow, but when she finally came of age, he thought she would be better without him. But as time wore on and other men began to show interest in her, he could not hold back nor could he let them have her. He discarded those who had an interest in her but one of them slipped through his fingers while he was away and took her. He waited to see if she was happy with her life, with that man, if she was, then he would let her be. She would be able to live a happy life this time unlike the previous one, but everything changed when the forces from the underworld learned of her existence and her connection with him. Her husband was killed which he permitted and her life was in constant danger. Keeping the distance was no longer an option and he once again appeared before her.

How to kill a demon 2

"What will kill her?" Nyx asked, curious to know what could kill a demon or devil. It would be fascinating to kill one or more of those. They were troublesome anyway.

"You want to kill her?" Reaper asked, intrigued by her question.

Nyx looked into his eyes and thought she saw a shine in them when he asked her that, or was it just her hallucinations? "I think it would be good to know since the likes of her are already showing up where they are not meant to be," Nyx replied. Besides this red-haired here, there was already another troubling Skye. "I would like to know so that I will be able to protect myself."

The woman glared at her. If looks could kill, then Nyx would have died over and over again. She wished she could break free even if it was for only a second, and she would assure the human who thought she could kill her and her kind.

"Very well," Reaper said, pleased that she had requested that and had a good reason for it. Although it didn't matter whether she had a reason or not, he would have still told her what she wanted to know. "Listen and watch closely," he looked at her indulgently, but that only infuriated the woman on the ground who would soon become a guinea pig for Nyx's lesson and experiment on how to kill demons.

"Okay," Nyx said and drew closer to him as he moved forward. He stopped, and she stood behind him.

Seeing that close, she wanted to run away, but with her hands and legs being bound and her powers sealed away, she was nothing but a sitting duck waiting to be slaughtered. The thought of pleading for her life filled her head, but she knew it was pointless, begging death to spare a life. "Wait, please," she quickly said when a dagger appeared in his hand. "I am not the only one who wants her dead," she said, and Reaper's hand that was going for her throat stopped an inch away.

"Who else?" Reaper asked. His tone was darker than usual. It was evident that he was mad, and she knew it was best not to waste his time. He could just kill her and get the answer that he needs from someone else who falls victim to him.

"I am uncertain, but I can help in hunting them down," she proposed, but he didn't seem to like the idea. "I would never hurt her, you can have my soul if I ever hurt her," she tried bargaining once again, but he still gave her the same dead look.

"Nyx," Reaper called. He looked over his shoulder at her as she drew. even closer to him. He then gave a hand to her and she took and he gently pulled her forward, making her stand in front of him. Nyx looked at him confused and she did not question him. "Take this," he gave the dagger to her.

Nyx went down and took the dagger, her hand shook when she held it. Although he had been holding it for a long while, it was still cold as though it had not been touched for a long time. That and the fact she was holding a dagger that could claim a life any moment now had her shuddering.

With her back against his chest, he placed his hand on the hand that held the dagger to guide her. "To kill a demon, you must kill its heart. This is the only way, especially since it would keep coming back to life no matter how many times they are killed," Reaper took his time to explain it to her.

Nyx's body shuddered but she didn't back away. She didn't want to think about the life that she was about to take but the fact is that this woman wanted to kill her just less than an hour ago.

Sensing her inner dilemma, he pressed a kiss on her neck and whispered, "I am here, she can't hurt you." Nyx took a deep breath and then nodded her head. "Are you ready?" She nodded again and hardened her grip on the hilt of the blade.

Reaper held the woman in place and in order not to add to Nyx's anguish, he also took away her voice. He didn't want it traumatizing her and with his guidance, Nyx stabbed the woman who couldn't even scream or cry even if she wanted to. Nyx could tell that she was in a lot of pain but she couldn't even cry. Her blood soaked the ground beneath them and now, she was kneeling in the pool of her own blood.

"Again," he instructed and let go of her hand, letting her do it herself. The damage has been done but there wasn't enough force in the blow to destroy the heart and it was quickly healing back.

Nyx swallowed a lump in her throat. This was different from when he held her hand. Although he barely did anything, having him hold her hand was sort of comforting. But now…

"You wanted to know. Now you know. All that is left is to finish the job. Be sure to make it quick. Not every one of them will be held captive like this for you to kill. You must be swift and accurate with your strikes. Some of them have quicker healing abilities than she does," Reaper instructed. He stood up but he didn't move from where she was. She still needed his presence there, next to her. He knew what his presence did for her.

Nyx closed her eyes and took another deep breath, then opened them and struck immediately, on the same spot as she did while he held her hand. The woman opened her mouth as if screaming but now sound made it out of her. She fell limply on the ground as her heart stopped beating. Her eyes before they became lifeless were filled with pure rage and hatred but it was not surprising since that was the only look that woman ever gave to her.
