"Welcome back, Madam," Irene greeted and took the handbag from Nyx the moment she walked through the door.
"Is Skye home?" She had seen his driver outside, and that should prove that he was home, but he never came back as early as this. Did something happen? She couldn't tell, but she knew she wasn't far from the truth if he had returned so early.
Irene's expression fell after she was asked that. She hesitated but soon decided to tell her the truth. "Madam, I do not think the master is all right. When he came back, he was… different and drunk."
Nyx frowned as she couldn't fathom what could have caused him to drink and get drunk in the middle of the day. Men loved to drink. but she hadn't seen him drink to the point of getting drunk before. So what could have caused him to do it this time?
"Where is he?" Nyx asked. She feared something bad had happened and worried for him. Their lives were so messed up that it wouldn't be a surprise if one day, one of them just caught on even while asleep.
"Master Skye is asleep at the moment, Madam,' Irene replied, and Nyx nodded and took her to his bedroom.
Irene followed behind her but branched into the room where Nyx was staying to drop her back before she returned to the kitchen to have something prepared for her to eat.
Meanwhile, Nyx stood in front of the door, and hesitation washed over her. It has been a while since she stepped foot into this room. It was their bedroom as husband and wife, but now only one of them used it. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. There was a man who might be unwell inside. She couldn't turn around and leave without checking on him. He was still her husband with or without feelings involved.
She opened it and walked inside. There was an ominous authority around it, and she felt cold run through her spine. She was right after all. Something did happen, and a devil was certainly at work.
"Who is it?" She asked. She could sense a presence in the room, but she could pinpoint where it was. If Skye was on the bed sound asleep, then the one she senses must be lingering around somewhere in the room. She wouldn't get chills if Skye was the only person in the room. "I know you are in here, show yourself," she said and kept on drawing closer to the bed where she could see Skye sleeping but with a deep crease between his brows. Even his sleep was not peaceful. "Skye," she called in a whisper. Her heart ached to see him like that.
She stopped at the foot of the bed, then walked around to where his head was placed and stared at his sleeping face. She raised her hand to fix his hair and then leaned to kiss his forehead. She saw as the crease between his brows eased up and she sighed relieved that her presence helped him a bit. She placed the back of her hand on his forehead, and then his neck to check his temperature, it was a bit high but not a cause for alarm.
But that was one problem solved. She felt someone breathing on her neck right after she kissed him. Literally. It was odd and weird, but it proved that she was right about the extra presence in the room.
Nyx ignored the unease and climbed on the bed, took off her shoes, and went up to lift Skye's head to give him a lap pillow. Perhaps he might sleep better that way.
"How long do you intend to stay hidden? If you would harm him, you might as well be bold enough to show yourself," silence followed, but the heavy atmosphere did not reduce. "I never knew devils were cowardly too."
"Fine," a man's voice echoed in the silence of the room. Afterwards, his silhouette appeared and finally took form. "Happy now?" He asked with his head tilted to the side.
Nyx gave off no expression and no emotions as she stared at him. His features were similar to that of Reaper, but compared to Reaper, this devil was lacking. "Who are you? And why are you after him?"
"And you are still as no fun as before. Perhaps that is why I like you," he uttered. He looked at her in silence for a while before that corner of his lips curled into a beautiful smile. "Do you truly not remember me, Natasha? Am I that forgettable?"
Nyx's brows pulled together when he called her that name. Everything he said made no sense until he called her that name, and for some reason, he started to look familiar. Not because of his similarities with Reaper but because they had met before.
"You are starting to remember me, right?" He approached the bed. A chair appeared out of nowhere and he sat down, his gaze on her the whole time.
"What do you want?" Nyx asked. It no longer mattered who he was, what mattered what he wanted to do to Skye and why.
"In your previous life as Natasha, all I wanted was to kill you. The fact that Death took a liking to a human annoyed me as well as humored me. But now, I see the potential and I want you," he said as straightforwardly as he could be.
"And what does that have to do with Skye?" Nyx asked. All the female demons and devils wanted her dead while the males wanted to get entangled with her. Nothing surprises her anymore. Not after she came to know the truth about her rebirth. She wrapped her hands possessively around Skye's neck when the man looked at him.
"Everything. Marrying you and keeping away from you was fine. But now, that is no longer guaranteed, so he must go," The man replied. "I want you to be my queen. Be mine."
"Hades," Nyx called as the name popped up in her mind.
