Chapter 10

Ash was a playful little kitten who got into everything. He had found some of Willow's old toys, which he tossed around the apartment. He played for hours with just a ball of string and a tiny cloth mouse. I couldn't contain my smile as he jumped and rolled with the ball or attacked the mouse. When he finally tuckered himself out, he climbed into my bed. He spun around a few times before plopping down next to me. His sweet little purr rumbled my leg.

I looked over the note again and again.

Who the hell is "D"?

Why would they give me a cat? And how the hell do they know I'm lonely?

I felt uneasy at the thought and got up to close the blinds and curtains to the windows in my apartment, careful not to disturb Ash.

This couldn't be a hallucination. Right?
