Internal Affairs

Spencer walked hurriedly on Lorki lane, looking back to make sure she wasn't followed. She held her bag so tight like she was about to lose it and increased her pace. She knew sooner or later, Conrad would find the letter she left on his desk in the laboratory. She also knew he'd try to find her but hopefully, he would be too late. She got to her house and looked around before locking the door behind her.

Conrad grimaced when he saw the letter. He laughed quietly and his frown deepened. He was well aware of Spencer's guilt and what her plan was from the letter she had written; he had created an image the world knew for himself and she was about to jeopardize it from her guilt-driven heart. He looked at the letter again:

"I know what you did and I will tell..."

Conrad rubbed his beard and stared at the letter. He squeezed it and threw it across the room, along with the files on his table and screamed. Rocao ran into the office and saw the mess. He looked at his brother and back at the papers littered on the floor.

"What the hell happened here?"

"We need to find spencer. She has become a threat to our work."

"What happened?" Rocao asked again, walking towards Conrad. Trying to be calm, he walked to the squeezed paper, picked it up and gave it to Racao.

"I know what you did and I will tell..."

"What are we going to do now?" He asked, looking at the paper in his hand.

"We'll have to take care of Spencer. If she'll be a problem in the future, I believe now's the time to get rid of her. Find her and do what must be done."

MYSTI POLICE CENTER

8:45AM

"We have a report of a missing person," Nicole said, "Spencer Parvais, 28 years old. Her next-door neighbour and the one living across say they last saw her around 10:30am, two nights ago when she was leaving for work. Her boss called saying she did not come into work the next morning and wasn't answering her phone. Her roommate called in this morning - said she got home last night from her boyfriend's house and met the apartment scattered like there was a robbery but no Spencer - just her cell phone." She handed the file to Aditya and he looked at it.

"Question her boss - see if she had issues at the office and who she contacted last," he walked into the crimes and missing person unit, "Agent Oliver, check out Spencer's apartment and dust for fingerprint - find out if anything was stolen. Brandy, bring Spencer's roommate in for questioning."

"Yes boss," Oliver and Brandy chorused and left immediately.

LORKI LANE

The forensics department dusted for fingerprints while Oliver searched the house.

"Clear!" Oliver yelled from one of the rooms and his partner did the same in the kitchen.

"I need every piece of evidence in here, leave no rat or rug unturned," he said to Matt and his team.

Brandy walked into Spencer's room, opened the nightstand, and her box and walked towards her closet. She opened the doors and immediately, a young man jumped out of Spencer's closet.

"Oliver, we have an intruder," she yelled.

The young man headed for the door but wasn't fast enough.

"Police - don't move. Your hands on your head, knees on the ground now."

Brandy ran out of the room, adjusting her bulletproof vest. The young man was on his stomach, wrists cuffed behind him as he winced in pain.

"We need to head back to the office," she said to Oliver who nodded in agreement.

"Let's move out," he ordered.

MYSTI POLICE CENTER

"Why were you in Spencer's closet?" Oliver questioned. There was no response. Oliver continued.

"Tarquin Bells, you have been charged with assault before and you were in prison for six months. You got laid off from work after you served time. Walx is a long way from here. You should have gone back to your hometown after you served your time. Now, what were you doing in Spencer's apartment?" Still, there was no response.

"We could charge for breaking and entering a crime scene unless you start talking. I bet you this time, you might be gone for a while." Tarquin looked at the camera at the room's end and back at Oliver.

"Fine. Have it your way," Oliver said and got up to leave the interrogation room when Tarquin started talking.

"We were in a relationship for a year but things went south when she got a new job at the Frontell Laboratory. She loved science and always talked about how ecstatic she'll feel if she got a high paid job in a science company."

"What do you mean by a new job? Was she laid off from her previous job?"

"She used to work as a receptionist at the Fort Ross hotel. She worked for seven months and sent several applications to some companies. I guess it worked out well for her because she quit when she got an appointment letter to work at the lab. I was happy for her; one of us was living their dream. After time in prison, I used up my savings to start a coffee, cake and chocolate faves."

"So what happened?"

"She started to enjoy her time at work more than with me. At first, I thought I could handle it but who am I kidding? We fought constantly and suddenly she became distant; said work was stressing her up. I wasn't enough for her and weeks after, we broke up."

"What were you doing in her apartment and how long had you been there?" Oliver jotted down Tarquin's statement.

"I got a voicemail from her the night she disappeared; said she needed to talk - it was urgent she said. I didn't go that night because I was with a lady and I couldn't have possibly guessed anything bad would happen. I figured I'd go today when she was not answering her phone and find out what was so urgent. I got there this morning and saw the house in a mess. I was about to leave when I heard the police sirens and I did the only thing I could think of - hide."

"We'll need your phone. What is the name of the lady you were with?"

"Landa Rowells."

Oliver took the file with him and left Tarquin looking around the room.

"What time did you get home last night Pia?" Brandy asked Spencer's roommate.

"I got in by 9:30pm. My boyfriend came to drop me off. When I opened it, he walked me to the door and everything was a mess from the living room. The lights were on and I thought she had made the mess but the rest of the house was the same way so I followed my boyfriend back to his apartment and alerted the police this morning."

"Did you find anything unusual lying around?"

"I didn't, except for her phone and some documents she was working on. Her laptop is gone as well," she sniffed. Brandy got up and left the room. She came back with a box of tissue and placed it on the table beside Pia. She smiled, pulled two out and cleaned her nose.

"Do you know who would have done this? Spencer might be a bit of an overachiever, but she is really sweet. I don't see why anyone would want to hurt her."

Brandy sighed, "we're doing everything we can to find her. Get home, rest, or stay at your boyfriend's house till it blows over. Don't leave town okay? We might need your help sooner or later." Pia nodded.

"Boss," Oliver called Aditya, "we found a letter under Spencer's bed." He handed the letter over.

"Good work," Aditya commended and opened the letter.

"I know what you did and I will tell..."

"Did you question her boss and co-workers at the lab?" Aditya asked Nicole.

"Yes sir. No one's seen her or heard from her since she left the office two days ago," she answered.

"How about the hotel she worked at?"

"I did. No one has heard from her after she quit."

"We found a letter under her bed. It seems she saw what she wasn't supposed to and someone wants her dead. No one has called for ransom which means two things; she's dead or doesn't want to be found by anyone, particularly someone who'd want to kill her."

"What should we do now?" Nicole asked. Aditya walked and she followed behind as he instructed her.

"Print Spencer's picture and paste it at every possible place within a 500km radius. Someone must have seen her or what happened. Distribute to airports and docks in Taigad. We need to know what she saw."

Demetrius sat on the couch in the sitting room, tapping his legs and making his discomfort noticed by his friend, Johan. He tapped the stool beside him with his fingers and raked his hair backwards.

"What is wrong man? Are you okay? Johan asked, concerned and offered him a can of soda and popped his own, "I'm sorry. I know today is your parent's death anniversary. Do you need some time alone?" There was no answer. Johan grabbed his shoulder lightly and faced the TV where the news of Spencer's disappearance was airing.

"...Any leads on the whereabouts of Spencer Parvais should call the contact on the screen. And now, to the weather forecast..."

Just then, his phone rang and he jumped up instantly. "I'll be right back, Jo," he stepped outside and picked up. He looked back to be sure Johan was inside and not paying attention to him.

"I'm fine," the caller said in a low voice.

"Thank God you're okay. I was so worried you didn't make it to Nanny Willow's house. Everything is a wreck here; the police are agitated and distributing papers everywhere. Do you have internet there to watch the news?" He asked and looked back at Johan again.

"I can't talk for long. I'll send a message. I love you." The phone call ended with Demetrius, cleaning the corner of his eyes. He smiled and walked inside.

"You okay man? You looked scared," Johan looked at him.

"It's nothing to worry about. I will be fine."

FRONTELL LAB

"The police are still in search of 28-year-old Spencer Parvais who went missing on Monday. They haven't come to a conclusion on what happened..."

Conrad switched off the television and held the remote tight. He muttered under his breath and tapped the glass table. Rocao walked in and sat beside Conrad.

"What happened that night? You were supposed to get rid of her."

"She wasn't there anymore. For what it's worth, she could be dead. It's been four days Conrad."

He nodded, "You're right. She could be dead," he smiled; deep inside he knew he wasn't going to rest until he heard the news of Spencer's death. Rocao got up to leave.

"Want some coffee?" Rocao asked.

"Make it black, no sugar."

Conrad muttered to himself - dammit Spencer...where are you?"
