Chapter 91

Dio lay there with his eyes closed for a few hours until he got so bored that he had to get up.

He left the room and proceeded through the torch-lit white stone corridor.

Dio chose to follow the path he used to get here because he didn't know the way to the temple.

Like magic, when he turned the corner at the end of the hall, he was outside the temple but not where he came in from the front.

He was in the back.

The view from the top of the hill in the rear is very different.

There is a large area of well-kept green grass with flowers surrounding it instead of the lovely garden taking over the entire area.

"Do you like the place?"

Melinoë asked from his side.

Dio flinched to the left and was startled until he saw that it was Melinoë.

"It's a beautiful open field."

Dio said this while not knowing what to say about the area.

"Thank you. I initially wanted to build a coliseum, but my children convinced me it would be too much."

Melinoë said and looked at the view.

"Children?"

Dio asked.

"My children."

Melinoë said again while looking up, where there was a bunch of ghosts in its eternal dance.

"But enough talk; let's get started. I'm quite excited to train my first demigod; I've always been envious of the other gods when they bragged about this."

Melinoë said while floating over the stairs leading down to the field.

In the middle of the empty field, Dio stood in front of her and waited for her to speak.

"Firstly, I think it's better to explain my blessing to you."

Melinoë began.

"Unlike the gods who blessed the champion of Olympus, you didn't receive a blessing that increased or added power to you."

Melinoë explained.

That's a good thing; Dio was a bit uneasy thinking that his physical abilities could be reduced if a god withdrew their blessings.

So, Dio always hoped that he had gained only some additional powers he could manage with his magic.

"May I know why?"

Dio liked the way things were set up, but it would be easier for him to give a power boost if he knew why they were that way.

"You didn't already have a perfect body like I did, so it would be a waste if it were a blessing to enhance your physique. As for powers, Father was against it."

Melinoë said.

"So, what are the uses of the blessings I received?"

"Our Father's faithful gods gave blessings that opened doors for you, but they could not grant powers or abilities."

"I don't understand; what do you mean by opening doors?"

"I don't know what doors the others opened for you, but I opened the door to my powers over ghosts."

"Technically, I didn't gain anything immediately. However, with the door open, I have the opportunity to learn."

Dio said it with a bit of confusion.

"Exactly."

Melinoë confirmed.

"Does that mean that even if the door is closed in the future, I won't lose all the knowledge I gained?"

"No."

"Let's get started then!"

Melinoë then raised the palm of her hand, and a brilliant moss-green energy manifested above her.

"The door I opened can give you control over what my divinity easily accesses—the manipulation of soul energy."

Melinoë said, but his attention was entirely on the luminescent moss-green energy ball.

The energy Dio feels now is unlike anything he saw; it's nothing like divine energy or mana.

Dio can feel magical energies very well as a magician, but the energy that was floating in her hand didn't seem real.

In fact, if Dio were blindfolded, he wouldn't be able to tell if the ball was still in front of him.

"Mortals have named this energy ectoplasm, a ridiculous name."

The green energy changes form into a small ghost that flies around her body like a firefly when she moves her hand.

"Ectoplasm is certainly one of the most malleable energies; it's incredible how easily it can be molded. Attack, defense, and control are just a few of its uses."

The energy changed shape once again into various types of weapons, old and new.

"Of course, my favorite use of it is to manipulate ghosts directly, as they are composed of this energy."

Then Melinoë quickly moved her fingers, and the energy that had been calm in her hand spread to her whole body.

The green energy from her extended hand danced in the air, and soon ten ghosts dropped from the sky and formed a formation in front of him.

They looked different now, no longer shapeless; there were men and women in clothes from various eras waiting for Melinoë's command.

"By manipulating this energy, you can control them as you wish, even making them solid to attack your enemies."

The ghosts changed shape again, this time into scarier beings three meters tall and with black eyes but no mouths.

They looked like they were straight out of a horror movie.

"Or you can use them to scare your enemies; I loved doing that when I was a young goddess while going around with a bunch of ghosts and frightening mortals; some of them even died of fear."

Melinoë allowed herself to smile at the last sentence.

'I'll try to ignore her saying that.'

Snap!

With a snap of her fingers, everything disappears, and only the two of them are once again in the field.

"Ready to begin?"

Melinoë asked.

Dio agreed immediately as he was so excited.

...

The training was pretty hard, which made Dio less enthusiastic.

In addition, there was a lack of progress after training nonstop for four days until it was completely worn out.

The strength of demigods is that they don't get tired, which is terrible for physical training but excellent for this type of training, which requires a lot of practice and study.

Normally, Dio wouldn't complain about studying magic; it's the only thing he really enjoys studying.

He can still say that Melinoë is not a good teacher.

She doesn't say much about how she can access this energy because she was born with it and can use it as easily as blinking.

So they're going at a very slow pace.

The first step to accessing the energy is to feel it.

It would be an easy task if the damn ectoplasm itself didn't give any sign of its existence.

Dio asked her how she felt the energy so that he could do the same, but her answer was very disappointing.

So, a thought came to him after all these days.

"Melinoë, what happens if I use astral projection in the underworld?"

Melinoë was sitting on a stone bench on the side of the field.

"Are you talking about that mortal thing of making your spirit leave your body?"

"Yes."

Melinoë turned her face to the left while thinking for a few seconds before answering.

"Of course, the underworld would try to control you and make you follow the same path as everyone else. It would be like being judged and then going to where you belong. You're safe now that you're in my realm and have my protection. Why do you ask?"

She responded, which gave him hope.

"I had an idea of how to speed things up. Ectoplasm is an energy created by the soul and manipulated by spirits, as you said, so being closer to that state might help speed things up."

Dio replied to her, then sat on the ground with his legs crossed.

She not only gave him hope to speed things up but also the answer to what would happen if he came to the underworld in his projection.

Fortunately, neither Dio nor Raven tried it.

It took some focus for Dio's soul to slowly leave his body and float above it.

The moment this happened, he felt a strange sensation, as if something was calling him, but it was just a distant call that didn't bother him much.

This was the first time he felt something in this state, as he never fought with his projection or been hit by spells that could harm him in this state.

"Let's try again, please, sister."

Dio asked while looking at her.

Melinoë didn't move, but a ball of bright green ectoplasm appeared in front of him.

This is how they were training—she summons the green energy, and Dio tries to feel and manipulate it.

Dio sat in the air above his body in the same position and closed his eyes to try once again to feel the energy.
