Chapter 27

*************************FLASHBACK*************************

Dio returned home after his class with Zatanna, and it was almost midnight.

Their classes have very random schedules, but he doesn't mind since he doesn't get physically tired, and he knows the value of time for a magician like her.

He's in a good mood. He managed to create his first spell, and he learned how to use a somewhat unpleasant but non-lethal Greek curse.

So he walked calmly and enjoyed the quiet surroundings of the streets leading to my house.

This street is a residential area, so most people are already asleep.

The fact that a child is walking alone on the street at this hour would not cause any of the neighbors to call the police.

He could simply shadow-travel home, but it's quite exhausting, and as he mentioned, he's in a good mood.

After a few minutes, he arrived in front of his house, took the key out of his pocket, opened the door, and stepped inside.

"She's gone again,"

Dio said it out loud as he entered.

Vanessa is getting more and more out of control while Julia is still traveling. She went to school and returned early in the morning, smelling like alcohol.

When Dio had free time, he followed her to her parties and watched her from afar, just in case something went wrong.

Dio's efforts to help her have not been successful so far, and there hasn't been anything very serious that has happened.

It might be time for him to step in and help.

Dio went to the kitchen and made a sandwich for himself.

After eating, he went upstairs, took a shower, and headed straight to his room. When he turned on the light, he was startled.

There's someone in his room.

Dio immediately thought the person was a murderer, as he didn't hear anyone when he arrived home—not even a heartbeat.

But he quickly dismissed that idea.

The woman in front of him is clearly a ghost because her body is somewhat ghostly and her clothes are torn and stained with blood.

Dio can't see her face properly because her messy hair covers it, but he can see marks of injuries on the visible parts of her face.

"Can you speak?"

Dio asked out loud.

The situation is strange.

A ghost had never come to find him.

All the ones he encountered in the city were usually restricted to a specific location.

'So what makes her different?'

"Can you talk?"

Dio asked again, but he didn't get a response.

She just keeps staring at him without moving. He knew what he needed to do to find out why she was here.

Dio still remembered the sensation of feeling the emotions at the moment of the homeless man's death, whom he helped.

But, as he mentioned, a ghost has never come to find him. So he believed it was worth finding out the reason.

Dio approached her and put his hand over her head, a few inches away. Then he felt the connection.

It was different from the first time but easy, and he supposed it was because of his mystical training.

This has enhanced his control over his demigod abilities a bit, or maybe it's his magical ability. To be honest, it's hard to tell which is which.

The ease with which he established the connection wasn't the only change. He was also gaining more control over the memories he was seeing.

The first time, he could only watch a fast-forward of the person's life, stopping only at the moment of their death.

Now, he has more control over what he wants to see in their life memories.

As he watched the girl's life happen before his eyes, he gathered some information about her. Her name was Sarah, and she lived a bit far from here.

Dio was sure she was a good person based on what he had seen so far.

He skipped over her memories until he stopped when he saw that she went to the same school as Vanessa.

Dio didn't want to waste time watching every single day of her life.

This created a sense of urgency to understand how she died.

So he fast-forwarded even more and reached the day of her death.

It was an ordinary day; she went to school. The girl was very shy and didn't have any friends at school, but she didn't suffer any bullying.

At the end of the school day, she was approached by another teenage girl dressed in a gothic style.

This girl invited Sarah to a party later, and Sarah was so delighted that she returned home with a skip in her step.

That night, she went to the party.

She quickly understood that the party was too wild for her, as there were drugs and drunk people everywhere. Then her new friend showed up and started talking to her.

After an hour, the friend brought her a beer. Sarah didn't want to seem boring, so she only took a sip.

Suddenly, she looked like she was drunk.

It didn't matter what amount of alcohol she could handle; one sip shouldn't have made her feel this way.

The other girl clearly gave Sarah drugs, and when she saw that they worked, she started pulling Sarah out of the house and into the street.

Their final destination was a house for sale near Julia's house. When the teenager knocked on the door, it was opened by another man wearing a black hood.

He kissed the teenager on the mouth, smiled at her, and then took Sarah inside the house, leaving the person who drugged her outside.

There were three other men in the house. What happened next wasn't good, and he's not ashamed to say he skipped to the end.

In the morning, the four of them left, and Sarah woke up.

She remembered what had happened, and very hurt, she tried to leave that house on the way home due to the beating she received from one of the people who found it pleasurable to hit her face.

A car struck Sarah after she tripped, fell off an overpass, and hit the ground.

The feeling of pain, abandonment, and anger he experienced at the moment of her death is something Dio hopes never to feel again.

He almost broke the connection because of it, but he set aside all that he felt to process later and continued to see her memories.

There must be a reason for her being here.

After Sarah's death, the cops did not find the four teens—three guys and a woman. She really wanted something, so she stayed with these four and followed them.

Finally, she remembered that the girl who had drugged her had asked Vanessa to come to a party tonight.

The party started an hour ago.

Sarah didn't keep following the girl after she saw that another girl would end up like she did. She wanted to get help, but since she was a ghost, she didn't have many choices.

It's a good thing she came to him.

Now Dio knows that Sarah doesn't seek revenge; she wants to ensure that another girl doesn't suffer what she went through.

In the name of all the gods, no one will touch Vanessa today.

It's not a time for panic or reckless actions, so he calmed down and thought about how to find Vanessa.

Dio has to find the party's venue.

In fact, it would take too long for him to look up all the teen parties in the city on the internet, and Vanessa might already have been taken out of the party since she was high.

So, the only way to find her quickly is to use magic.

Zatanna already showed him a simple location spell, but he didn't pay much attention to it and didn't train in it.

He rushed out of his room and went to Vanessa's room.

Dio's not soft; he kicked the door, broke it in half, and entered. He looked in all directions and found her hairbrush.

He grabbed it and rushed down to the ground floor, the farthest part of the house, a room filled with books.

There are books scattered throughout the house, but these are the least used by Julia.

Dio comes here a lot, so it didn't take him long to find an old map of their area.

The map is outdated; many new places have been built in the areas it shows as empty.

However, it's still important to have a plan.

Dio left the room and went to the kitchen. There, he placed the open map on the table and pulled out strands of hair from Vanessa's hairbrush, holding them in his two hands.

He concentrates before trying the spell. He hadn't practiced it before, but it's simple tracking magic, so it should work.

He just has to hope his emotional state doesn't affect his spell.
