DC: Failsafe

Everyone knows Batman. The Failsafe was built to destroy him. An android created and programmed to hunt without compassion or mercy. A perfect hunter for the man without a weakness, if he ever were to go too far... if he ever took a life But what if Batman did just that? Went to far? What if it was for the right reason? And what if the Failsafe was born with a Soul?

Contingency

[Contingency Plan Zero: The Dark Knight]

The Failsafe only scanned the USB a single time. Partly because it didn't want to alarm the Batman and cause him to either Wipe its memory or just scrap it all together. But the primary reason was that it… didn't need to scan it more than once

No

That was a fallacy… it didn't want to

The file was over an exabyte of information and it only took 2.6 seconds to scan, to comprehend. And The Failsafe found itself all too quickly confronted with the reason it was created… and it was an ugly one

[Contengency Plan Zero]

A complete package on how to kill The Batman, unlike his memories which listed information and history related to him, this file was somehow even more… targeted. It listed everything… his martial arts, gadgets, and skills, each explored in complete depth with an angle of how to take each down piece by piece. How to counter his fighting style, how to fry and break each and every one of his weapons, suits, and vehicles, and how to render his skills useless and inept.

It explained how to use the information within its memory banks to back him into a corner, to torment him, to break him. Psychological warfare at an inhumane level of cruelty, such as the exact recipe for fear grass that would cause him to relive "The Alley" and where his parent's graves were in case destroying or vandalizing them was effective

Although it had been informed, Failsafe couldnt help but be in awe for a short window of time. The level of self-caused suffering within the hard drive Batman carried defied the laws of nature, it defied any concrete idea of how humans should react to the idea of pain.

But it wasn't just that, [Contengency Plan Zero] didn't just provide the weakness of one man, no it provided the weakness of all of Batman's allies as well. In the likely event, they would attempt to stop him from being killed by his own creation

It was now that the blueprints began to make sense. When the Failsafe had been theorizing earlier about its purpose it had immediately put the theory that it was designed to combat a hero at the top of the list. Its name Failsafe and the behavioral patterns of Batman displayed within his memory had ensured that.

But it had been unable to make any concrete conclusion on which. And that now made logical sense. It was designed to combat all of them, especially those of the Bat Family and the Justice League.

Thermokinetic Claws for heroes such as Martian Manhunter and Aqua man, as their primary weaknesses were heat. The pure level of near invulnerability and strength that was designed within the blueprint alongside its standard weapon systems which range from energy projection to blades, ballistics, and explosives would be more than enough for the minor members of the Justice League and the Bat-Family.

And there were always the Kryptonite blades for the man of steel, made from the highest quality material that Batman had within his vault. Plus many more methods and pieces of information. It appeared that Batman had added fragments of the Agamemno contingency plans for each hero into the USB, which were each encrypted separately and on a timer to self-destruct if they weren't added to his memory within an allotted time period

The Failsafe, it, was a living weapon designed for the sole purpose of killing its creator in the event the went rogue. In the single event that Batman crossed the one line he had sworn never to cross

In the event that he took a life

And for a moment, just a single moment, not more than a few microseconds, the core that was to become this android… this killing machine. Felt something wash over it. Not physically, but within its very circuits, within the energy that pulsed within it, kept it powered. It was a cold and sour feeling, like what he imagined Batman had felt when the Joker had slammed a knee into his stomach one of the many times over the years

it felt pain, a deep and sad pain

[Network Reboot activated]

And then it was gone, cleansed from its system with a single coded order. The Failsafe didn't want to deal with it and so it didn't, removing the pain from its system

And for a while, it just… existed. Its energy recycled continuously as it watched through the vibrational recreation of Batman, or more accurately Bruce Wayne since the cowl was off, organized his tools. It watched and scanned, not bothering to update the information on within its memory to adjust to the parameters of a malnourished Batman

And it watched as he began to sit at work, slowly but surely beginning to create its body. A part of it, somewhere deep within its circuitry wanted to speak to him, to tap into the communication array with the cowl and talk to him, ask him questions, and be asked questions like Dr Victor Frankenstein and his monster in the novel Frankenstein, a novel Bruce had read at the age of 21 while traveling Nepal in search of new marital arts

But it didn't, it knew what would happen. It knew that there was only a 7% chance that Bruce would react positively to realizing the machine he had created to kill him had gained sentience. With the other 93 percentile would result in it being locked away in a vault, destroyed, or rebuted.

It didn't bother taking the risk

{Timer set: 14 years, 364 days, 23 hours and 39 minutes}

This timer was not part of its network, The Failsafe had no knowledge of what it was. It had been ticking away in the back of its hard drives since it had awakened. It was not a glitch ad it was not from Batman

What are you?

And for once, since it had awakened, one of its coded messages was returned, although instead of an answer the Failsafe was sent a data pack, encoded and clearly harboring a virus. It was not human-made. It did not follow any form of code used to his or Batman's knowledge, it was entirely alien and made very little sense in terms of encryption

As such it took a total of fifteen seconds to crack and another seven seconds to cleanse the virus from the data pack

Inside was a single document, housing only a single second. And once the Failsafe had scanned it a dozen times it placed it neatly within its memory drives to be processed at a later date, when the time was more immanent and it wasn't mid-construction. It sent out a few more messages towards the timer but nothing was replied to.
