Chapter 31
“Hey, babe,” came the deep voice he loved so much. “What’s up? I turned on the phone and there was a missed call from you but no message. Anything wrong?”
Brad was momentarily caught off guard. He’d let his stupidity get the better of him and had impulsively made the call. Composing himself, he said, “No, just missin’ you is all. Sorry I made you worry.”
“As long as everythin’s okay with Gran?” Hank asked, his voice seeking further reassurance.
Of course Hank’s first thought would be of Gran. That’s why Brad had come home in the first place
“Yeah,” Brad said, fighting the urge to blurt out his fears regarding Reggie. “Everything’s fine.”
“Then there’s no need to be sorry. Glad you called…”
Brad smiled.
