Chapter 4: The unwanted meeting

As Yato was making her way home, after a long day with her new friend.

she was approached by a boy with blue hair and ... golden eyes?

'why he seems familiar'

"Excuse me, do you have a minute?" he asked politely.

yato and after all the shit she did walk through that day, was exhausted and just wanted to take a shower and grab a big piece of a burger without any more interruptions.

"Who?" she asked tiredly.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself," said the boy, "My name is shidou...Itsuka shidou, what about you," asked shidou nicely.

Yato ignored his question, "What do you want".

"Shido, keep your guard up. Her anxiety levels are unstable," Kotori warned through the communication device.

"I know, it's obvious through her expressions, but I don't know what to do now," Shidou nervously replied, trying not to show it to the girl.

"Don't worry, big bro! That's why we are here,"

"Let's start the vote," shouted the captain girl.

1- <I just wondered, why a such beautiful girl like you walking alone at such an hour? Maybe I can help>.

2- <I liked the dog in your arms. I wonder if you let me take a look>.

"There we go, make your choices," said Kotori after everyone voted.

2- 60%

3- 10%

after everyone voted, Kotori checked the results.

"I see, I agree," said kotori.

"option 1 seems like the most common sense choice, but it would come across as insincere," said an old man from the Ratatoskr

"..and option 3 is out of the question, actually who the one who voted for it?" added a handsome man with golden hair

"That's right, option 2 is quite logical, and it gives you control over the conversation." finished kotori.

"Did she leave while I wasn't paying attention?" thought shido while searching for her.

Yato had dodged him and was now walking around him, trying to figure out if he could see her.

"Shidou, she's now walking in a circle around you," warned Kotori."What?" Shidou started to do the same, around himself.

"Interesting... It seems you know I am still here," said Yato, still maintaining her disappearance.

"I can hear her now, but I still can't see her," said Shido, unable to understand his situation.

suddenly, Yato tickled Shido in his stomach, making him fall on his butt from the surprise.

"You are an interesting one, How did you find out I was still here? I'm sure I was invisible to you," said Yato, still analyzing the boy.

"Captain, we found out why Shido wasn't able to see her," said one of the Ratatoskr members.

"It seemed like the light between Shido and the spirit was distorted. The spirit was somehow able to distort the path of the light around her from Shidou's perspective, that's why she was invisible to him, but not to us," explained the Ratatoskr member.

"Light manipulation. I see, that makes sense. That's what she used against the AST," said Kotori, confirming her doubts.

"Good. Shido, can you hear me? Follow my lead," Kotori instructed.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention," Shido replied, trying to remain calm. "As for how I knew you were still here, I don't know. I just felt it."

"Felt?" Yato repeated.'What kind of <felt> is that? Does he have some kind of ability that lets him sense the presence of others?' she thought, trying to make sense of it.

"Anyway, how did you do that trick? You're a magician, right?" Shido asked, showing some fake enthusiasm for the topic.

Uncomfortable with the change in topic, Yato replied,"..... yeah I'm a magician...as for how .... well that's a Career secret, I can't tell you," said yato wondering if the boy knew about spirits and magic stuff.

'Does he don't know about the spirits and magic stuff? I thought humans here knew about that. Well, it's not like I've been here for long, but those <racists> seem to know. Are they some kind of secret organization?'. Yato thought.

As Yato was lost in thought, Shido was thankful he saved the situation.

"Wow, that was a close one. Nice save, Kotori," he whispered, thanking Kotori for her help.

"No problem, brother, but the mission isn't over yet. Repeat after me," Kotori replied.

"Okay, I'm ready," Shido returned confidently.

"Umm," getting Yato's attention, Shido said, "The reason I approached you was because of the dog you're holding."

"Dog?" Yato lowered her head to the dog on her arm.

"You see, I'm a dog lover, and the moment I saw your dog, it caught my interest," Shido added.

"Hmmmmmm, is that so?" Yato said, somehow in a proud tone.

"Keep going, Shido. Her interest is rising," Kotori shouted.

"So, can we go to a better place to give me the chance to take a closer look? We're making a scene here," Shido said, hoping to gain Yato's interest.

Noticing that people were giving them awkward glances, Yato began to think. 'It's obvious he wants to hit on me, so bad for him I am a man inside.' she keeps thinking

'he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would approach a random girl on the street just to find his way with her. Has he given up on life and wants some love?' she wondered while glancing at him.

Shido was so awkward about the situation.

After deep thought, she decided.

"Do you know a good place for that?" she asked Shido.

"Great, lead the way," Yato said.

After a short trip, they finally arrived at their destination.

"What about my dog? Are pets allowed inside?" Yato asked. Shido nodded. "Yes, don't worry about it. That's actually one of the reasons I picked this restaurant."

Once inside, they chose an empty table. Yato was amazed by the restaurant's stylish design.'So many colors...but in a good way,' Yato thought as she scanned the place.

"Master, may I take your order?" a girl in a maid's uniform approached them.

Shido perused the menu and decided. "I'll have one Karaage and..." He looked up at the maid, his eyes widened in shock when he recognized her face.

"Kotori..." Kotori shushed him. "Quiet, we're here to help," she whispered."We?" Shido raised an eyebrow, then realized that those guys from before were working here, just like what happened with Tohka last time.

"How are you guys doing that, and where did the original workers go?" Shido asked, confused.

"Don't worry about the details so much, Shido, and focus on your date," Kotori advised.

"But..." Before Shido could finish his sentence, one of the Ratatoskr members spoke through the communication device.

"Captain, the anxious spirit is rising rapidly," the voice reported.

Shido and Kotori froze at the news, slowly turning their heads to the spirit girl, who was shaking while her eyes remained fixed on the menu.

"Um, are you okay?" Shido asked nervously.

"What kind of prices are these? 800 yen for noodles? Are these noodles made of gold or what?" she exclaimed indignantly."You can live for a whole week with 800 yen and still save some from it," she said, placing the menu on the table.

"Boy, to be honest, I was planning to get some extra free food from you, but those prices would leave me sleepless if I let you pay for it, even if you are rich," Yato said before leaving the restaurant.

Realizing what had happened, Shido moved to stop the girl from leaving.

He extended his hand to hold hers, but he caught only air.

"What, boy?" she said as she turned to him. "I should have known that you were rich from the moment I saw your dyed hair." She continued, giving him a disappointed glance.

"It seems you are a son of some rich family and you were trying to get girls to spend the night with, right? But you are still pure, I can't tell that, You'd better use your youth for better things, boy. A real man doesn't depend on his parent's money just to spend it with a random girl from the street. Spend that time making your own business and your own family. See you later, kid,". Yato said as she left Shido, Kotori, and even the entire Ratatoskr squad behind. were speechless.

Yato was wearing a big smile on her face as if she had just saved someone's life.

But that smile didn't last long.

"Wait, wait, wait," he exclaimed.

"What are you talking about?" he approached" I don't understand what you mean by the rich things and dyed hair, but 800 yen to be that expensive?", said shido

"Yeah, Anyone can afford that money in one hour of work in a normal job," kotori continues.

"What?" Yato replied, surprised. "How is that possible...ohhhhhhhh!!" and then Yato remembered.

"I'm not in my original world, This is a totally different new world, of course, The living situation is different here," she thought.

the people around her were glancing at her confused

her face reddened as if it was a tomato.

'Shit, after all of those cool words, I end up Embarrassing myself like that. Fuckkkkk!" yato shouted in her mind.

Shido exchanged glances with his sister. "Yeah, of course," they replied.

They returned to their table and, after a while, ordered what they wanted. Even though Yato now knew that those prices were affordable for anyone with a normal job, she wasn't able to order anything over 1000 yen. Her heart didn't allow it.

After finishing eating, they started to speak about what they came for. Yato was still hungry though.

"So, what do you want to know about the dog?" asked Yato.

"Shido, her anxiety levels are stable. Get ready for the next step," informed Kotori through the communication device.

"Roger!" Shido confirmed.

"Actually, the reason why I invited you here is different," Shido said. yato didn't get surprised, All she did was give him a glance that said, "Do you really think I didn't know?"

Nevertheless, he continued, "I hope you don't panic or anything," he said, his face set in determination. "I am your ally, and I want to help you."

Yato already knew where he was going with this. "What do you mean?" she asked.

"I know you are a spirit," confirmed Shido. "Your kind is at risk of being killed by the AST, a special secret unit designed to suppress and eliminate the spirits, so we are here to protect you."

Yato raised an eyebrow. "Protect me?" she repeated, trying to make sense of the situation. "Why would you do that?"

Shido took a deep breath. "Because we believe that everyone deserves to be safe, regardless of their origins or background. And we've seen what the AST can do to spirits like you. We want to prevent that from happening."

Yato remained skeptical. "And how do you plan to do that?" she asked, crossing her arms.

Shido exchanged a glance with his sister before leaning forward once again.

"We can provide you with a normal life. Like any girl your age, you can live your daily life without fear of being killed. We can give you a home and a normal life," he said before taking a deep breath. "That's why we have to seal your power," he added, fixing his gaze on her.

"sealed my power ?" Yato considered this for a moment and lowed her head while reaching her arm for the sleeping dog in her lap.

'if they told the truth that would solve so many problems, and then I would Focus on getting my memories back and of course <my little friend>, but there is so much risk, While the idea of living a normal life appealed well, the risks of being an easy target after having my powers sealed are high'

She decided to gather more information before making a decision.

"How would you seal my power?" she asked.

Shido's face turned red as he struggled to explain. "Well, you see..." he trailed off, taking a deep breath. "We have to go on a date and...well, kiss," he finished, avoiding eye contact.

Yato took a moment to process what he just said.

"WHAT?!"
