Chapter 57; Breakfast Catastrophic

Li Juanxin woke up from sleep, a bit disoriented. His eyes were not used to the bright sunlight that filled the bedroom, so it was a while before his eyes adjusted enough for him to see anything properly. He realized this was his brother's room, following his hobbit, he quickly put on his shoes and ran towards his father's room only to be stopped by Jingsheng 's hand as he walked past the doorway. "What do you think you're doing?"

Li Juanxin frowned in confusion, "I'm going to greet father. What's wrong?" Li Juanxin had always been quite affectionate with their father, and once he got up from sleep, without washing up, the first thing he remembers to do is to find his father.

"Have you forgotten? Father is in seclusion now, you can't disturb him." Jingsheng said, as if it were obvious.

Li Juanxin pouted, "I forgot."

"It's no big deal, go wash up. Breakfast is almost ready."Jingsheng smiled, ruffling his younger brother's hair lovingly.

Li Xuanxin could tell from the way his elder brother kept looking at him that he wasn't going to budge, so reluctantly nodded and retreated to the bathroom. After brushing his teeth, washing his face, he ran to the backyard where the kitchen was. " Good morning everyone."

Only Li Zhang, Li Cheng, Jingxuan and Yuhan were in the kitchen. Jingsheng was on the other side of the yard practicing his sword routine.

"XinXin, you're awake, good morning." Yuhan greeted cheerfully as he looked up from what he was cooking.

Li Cheng nodded and the others responded in greetings as well.

"Brother, what are you making? It smells so good." Li Xuanxin asked curiously as he came closer and started peering over his older brother's shoulder.

Li Yuhan made way for his younger brother to see clearly.

"It's an omelet, I thought we should eat something that is easy to digest." Yuhan answered nonchalantly.

Li Zhang reached out to touch the plate, however, he recoiled and his nose wrinkled in disgust, "Oh god, it smells like burnt eggs and meat paste."

Jingxuan laughed a little, "It's not that bad, maybe a tad spicy, but-"

"How can an omelet be spicy, not to mention that red color?"Li Zhang interrupted Jingxuan indignantly.

"Brother Cheng, what are you making? Maybe that's what smells so good." Li Xuanxin asked Li Cheng who was also making breakfast.

Li Cheng was too busy grilling meat to pay attention to the conversation between his brothers.

"Wow, the meat smells so good. Is it too hot? Can I try it too?" Li Xuanxin said excitedly when he saw how busy his older brother was preparing food.

"No it's okay. It's too hot, you'll burn yourself."" Li Cheng replied, not looking up from what he was doing.

"Cheng, I told you not to cook a heavy meal for breakfast. It won't be easy to digest!" Li Yuhan reprimanded him.

"What are you talking about? Only god knows what you put in that omelet to make it like that. Cheng is cooking something edible and yet you're complaining." Li Zhang scoffed.

Li Yuhan wasn't worried about the omelet, he had cooked some with Yujian before and everyone loved it. He feels he has plenty of experience in preparing food for himself as well as for others. However, it didn't take long until the omelet was burned beyond recognition. The red omelet turned dark red, making him speechless.

Li Zhang laughed so hard he couldn't even breathe, as tears streamed down his face. "You...you...how can you cook such an awful omelet?!" He choked between laughs.

Jingxuan tried his best not to laugh and clear his throat a few times, before he finally managed to say; "Sheng Sheng is very good at cooking, why don't he make breakfast instead?" Jingxuan suggested.

Jingsheng was done with his practice but refused to join his brothers. He was a little worried about his stomach at this moment.

"Sheng Sheng?" Li Zhang asked with a smile, looking at Jingsheng who was still thinking about how to escape.

"When we were alone in the village, Sheng was the one that cooked our meals every time we had a shortage of food." Jingxuan explained

And so, Jingsheng was dragged over by his brothers to make breakfast. He was really good at cooking, not to mention he'd been watching his father cooking.

Bai Lain, who was hanging on the tree, had been observing the children up till now. Luckily, he was thoughtful enough to ask Zhou to order breakfast from Joyous restaurant, he knew that they would need it.

After a lot of ups and downs, breakfast was finally ready. In the end, Li Yuhan omelet couldn't be eaten and was dumped into the garbage. Li Cheng grill meat was saved for lunch. The food Jingsheng cooked came out good but it wasn't enough for everyone. Thanks to the food that was ordered from Joyous restaurant, everyone had a delicious breakfast.

Without their father and eldest brother, breakfast was very quiet and felt a little lonely. Looking at the two empty seats, Juanxin and Jingxuan were filled with tears threatening to fall at any moment. The empty seats reminded them of how terribly hurt their father was yesterday while saving one of them. Now they couldn't do anything about this situation and all they could do was to wait.Yuhan and Li Cheng tried comforting them.

"Come on guys, you're acting like daddy has traveled across seas or something. He is right in his room recovering, only a door separating us. If he knows that you guys are too sad to even eat breakfast, how is he supposed to recover with peace of mind?" Li Zhang pointed out.

He looked at Jingsheng with gentle eyes and smiled; "Sheng Sheng, if you also miss daddy so much, I don't mind being your father for a day."

At those words, Sheng Sheng couldn't help but sneer; "I don't need it, you should comfort Xuan and Xin who are crying."

The others also look at Li Zhang in confusion. It was obvious that Jingsheng wasn't sad, so why was he comforting the wrong person?

Li Zhang saw their confused expression but continued to smile at Jingsheng. "Sheng, do you realize that you, Zhang and Xin are the same age? You don't have to pretend to be strong at all times, when you feel sad, just let it out. I, your brother, will comfort you."

Jingsheng rolled his eyes at Li Zhang's words but was touched by them nevertheless.

After breakfast, everyone went to do their special tasks. And just like that, A day went by successfully.
