Chapter 22

Detective Nico Yukishito spotted two figures in the middle of the chaos. For a moment, he forgot all that bullshit about "good manners" and pushed through the crowd. He shoved the gun into his pocket and prepared himself. If worse comes to worst or if he hurts his partner, then screw the plan. He had to act, no matter what was at stake.

"Let go of me!"

Nova struggled to hold the man wearing the black rabbit mask --- the devil attorney himself. 'Bastard.'

Nico calmed himself and approached the two. "I should've known you'd recognize her. Considering you two had a past." He waved at the girl, his hands ready to grab his handgun. They did not look at each other. Nico and Nova stood side by side, in front of their suspect.

"Did you get hurt?" Nico whispered next door, his lips barely moving.

Nova just nodded in sudden response.

Nico nodded. 'Good.' But he never said that. He threw a bad look at Lelouch San Andres, the possible serial killer of this town.

"Got anything to say, stupid attorney?"

Because the lawyer's mask was slightly lifted, they saw his frown, "I should've known you were a bad influence to Nova. Tsk. Care to explain why you're having my ex-girlfriend spy on me?" In its tone, he was obviously not happy with the circumstances. Nico almost laughed. If the lawyer is not happy with their observation of him, he is even more unhappy in this case.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the concern in Nova's eyes. She was never good at masking these emotions, he concluded.

It looks like their plan has been completely ruined. Their operation was canceled, but Scorpio has yet to call.

They have nothing against the attorney. Not yet.

'Ah, a detective's life is never easy!'

"Well? If you're not gonna explain yourself, we might just settle this in court." The language is Lelouch. His tone was threatening. Calm, but deadly. An attorney, indeed.

"For the sake of justice, I'll do whatever it takes. I'm willing to risk anything. You know that." Nova smiled sadly. He did not expect to reach this point. He didn't say anything so he just let Nico speak. This is getting out of hand.

"Now, will you admit to the crimes you committed, San Andres? Tell me, you sadistic scum, did you gain anything from heartlessly killing those women?"

Lelouch burst out laughing. "You're going crazy, Yukishito. Looks like you've had too much coffee. I don't have to admit to you so you can now turn off the recording device in your pocket. I know you've been recording our conversation before. I won't sue you this time, but if you do any more reckless actions, I might just watch you rot in jail. Tsk. Useless detective. Anxiously, Nova turned to her companion, "What are we going to do?"

Nico had his hands balled into fists, clearly irritated. His fist trembled in annoyance as he stared sharply behind the lawyer. He took a deep breath and turned off the mini-recorder that had previously been hidden in his pocket. 'I guess I won't get anything out of him using this technique. Let's do this the old fashion way. ' He handed Nova his mask, he smiled innocently.

A bad sign.

"Hold this for me. I just need to punch him in the face."

Nova blinked. "You're gonna ... WHAT ?!"

But it's too late.

The detective called the lawyer. Lelouch spun around, just in time to greet a solid punch on his face. With the force of its force, Lelouch's mask cracked, until it was completely destroyed. The other guests gasped. In the ongoing chaos, Inspector Ortega's attention was also aroused.

Nico started again. He was quick to evade the lawyer's attacks. He gracefully sent a deadly kick to the attorney's face. Lelouch smirked at it, no expression on his face. "I'm not the serial killer, detective. You've got the wrong man. You're just wasting time."

Detective Nico Yukishito loosened his necktie and smirked, "Everyone is considered guilty, unless proven innocent."

A right uppercut made Lelouch spit out blood, "Twisted philosphy, bastard. Is that what DEATH teaches you?"

"Fuck you."

And when the lawyer was about to take the detective, everyone was stunned.

BANG!

Nova was about to run towards them when she heard the gunshot. He was true to his stand and he turned to Nico and Lelouch. The shout of a man outside echoed in the event hall. The guests were upset.

'I have a bad feeling about this,' Nova thought. Moments later, Nico and I ran to the source of the noise.
