Chapter 50: It's A Special Day

Abigail's POV

Elle and I splashed through the mud by the river until our feet got too chilly and tired to do it anymore. We did find the frog, but he didn’t want our company for too long. We left him huddled in a thick bush under cover from these giants who interrupted his summer afternoon shower.

Elle drove us home in the evening, deepening with navy and purple hues in the sky, and we kept the air conditioner off this time. We weren’t far from home, so in no time we stood back out of the car into the nighttime air. The raindrops had stopped, and the humidity started to creep back into the air once more.

She opened my door for me, as thoughtful as ever, and gently took my hand. We were in the driveway with no light except for a few stars that poked through the cloudy night. The moon was fighting to glow through the remanence of a rainstorm but remained unseen.
