Chapter 14: The Hugging Stage

Abigail’s POV

In the week that followed, Elle and I texted almost every day.

She’d send me funny videos of cats that chased their own tails or wore sweaters. I’d gossip to her about the last chef to get eliminated on Battle of the Chefs.

Texting was nice. I’d go to bed smiling until my cheeks hurt. I would hug Gus goodnight while he sat above my hip and listen to his comforting snores.

I’d wake up in the morning sure she’d be tired of spending so much of our relationship waiting for more. It was like the sun rose enough to show me a glimmer of light, but it never fully made its way overhead for us to get that relaxing summer afternoon. We had to be patient so Momma's rage could die down. Elle was patient.

I checked my phone as my first step in my morning routine, and every time I looked, she had texted me “good morning! Miss you!”
