Syl walked over to Kushida.
"Are you ready?" Syl asked with a smile.
Kushida nodded. "I heard that you had a bet on this festival. I hope I can help you win~!"
Syl's face contorted into one of horror. "You wouldn't!"
Kushida giggled. "What?"
Syl walked away over to the ref.
"What exactly are the rules again?"
The ref sighed. "Kid, you're about to participate and you don't know the rules? Haaaa… It's a mixed gendered three legged race, you have to tie your legs together and run to the finish line. Don't sabotage others."
"So I could technically carry my partner?"
"No. You obviously can't carry your partner, both people must run together. I didn't think I would even have to say that out loud." The ref shook his head at the idiot in front of him.
Syl fell to his knees dramatically. "It's… over…"
He hunched over and slammed his fist on the ground. "Why? WHY ME???"
A couple people walked by wondering what happened. Someone even approached him to try and comfort him, thinking something horrible must have happened, maybe a loved one died?
The only problem was the person who came over to comfort him was Kushida.
She bent over and hunched beside him. "What's wrong? Are you alright?!"
Syl shook his head. "I lost, I'm going to be a sugar baby for life! How horrible! … actually, it doesn't sound that bad… actually, it kinda sounds nice… hmmmm."
Kushida heard this and leaned in whispering. "What exactly is your bet??"
Syl shrugged. "If I lose I have to go on a date, if I win, she owes me a favour."
Kushida mumbled. "Maybe I should just win… no, I can't. My school life… but… maybe? … no."
"Pardon?" Syl asked.
"Nothing, nothing! Let's win this thing! Go team angel~!" Kushida cheered out.
Syl sighed and stood up. "Yippie! Go team!" He fake cheered.
Then he thought for a second. "Wait, why team angel?"
Kushida pretended to be bashful. "Well… I heard that people call me angel…"
"Then what about me?"
"Eh?? Aren't you religious? You wear a cross earring. I've also heard you yelling at god recently…"
Syl shrugged. "I'm not really religious or anything, kinda in limbo, I don't know what to believe… WAIT! How do you know about that! That was all in my room!!!!"
Kushida whistled and walked away. "What are you talking about?"
Syl was left standing alone with his mouth agape. "Wha- what the fuck? It's all corrupted! Not even my own home is safe! My own home!!!"
While Syl wept about his privacy being violated Kushida returned with the tether and tied their legs together.
She carried Syl to the start line as he was still in a daze muttering about being violated.
"On your marks!"
Syl snapped out of it when he heard the starter getting ready.
"Get set!"
Syl and Kushida got ready.
"GO!!"
The started waved his hand down and all the groups took off.
Syl and Kushida instantly took the lead.
After the first half of the race they were leading by an extremely impressive amount. Second place was just barely over a quarter of the way through.
However, just when they reached three quarters of the way through the race, tragedy struck!!
Kushida tripped over her own foot and fell!
Syl was tempted to just keep running and drag her along, even if he was technically breaking the rules it would be worth it to watch her failing behind Syl being dragged by her ankles.
Syl smiled at the thought.
Kushida was currently on the floor writhing in pain and Syl was just standing beside her with a stupid smile on his face. It was a sight to see for sure…
Anyway!
Syl bent over and pretended to help Kushida out.
"Oh my god! Are you okay!? I hope you're fine!" He called out loudly so everyone could hear.
Kushida was on the floor holding her ankle. She started crying. "I- I'm so sorry, Syl! I ruined everything! I know you wanted to win but I held you back!"
Syl leaned over and put on hand on her shoulder, acting like he was helping.
He whispered. "I can't believe you actually went through with this."
"W-what? What are you saying?" Kushida asked pitifully.
"You're such a fucking two-faced bitch. You're disgusting."
Kushida started crying even harder. "Wha- huh? Syl? What's wrong? What are you saying?"
Syl smiled. "I don't even care whether someone is a good person or not, but YOU piss me off. Your incessant need to cause minor annoyances to others who know your secret is infuriating. You couldn't just let sleeping dogs lie, eh? You just HAD to expel everyone who knows about you?"
Kushida sniffled. "What do you mean? Why are you being so awful?"
"You fucked up. Don't think that Ryuuen will rush over at your beck and call just because you ratted out our plan to him, or Katsuragi, or anyone else."
Kushida's demeanor suddenly changed. "What?! How did you know-"
"Shut up. I'm talking right now." Syl hissed and his eyes glowed as he released a small amount of haki accidently.
Kushida's eyes widened and she nodded.
"You're an idiot for betraying the class. You just cut your only lifeline in this school all by yourself."
"Bu-b-but my friends." She stammered.
"What friends? The other classes? You're one dumb bitch if you think anyone in the other classes will ever lift even a single finger to help you when you're on the chopping block."
Kushida gulped.
Syl gently smiled and realised her.
He slowly brought a hand up to her face and softly wiped a tear from her cheek.
Not even a second later a bunch of people rushed over.
"As long as you're alright, the race doesn't matter." He said in an angelic tone.
"Awww." A few of the medical staff who rushed over smiled at the sweet scene of two friends.
What a pure friendship!
One was crying because she ruined the other's chance at winning and the other was just happy she was okay!
So sweet!!
Just as Syl was about to get up and walk away Kushida tapped him on the shoulder.
"Umm… could I say one more thing?" She said in an impressive feat of bravery after nearly soiling her pants in fear a moment ago.
Syl turned and smiled sweetly. "Sure! Anything you need?"
Kushida beckoned him over and whispered in his ear.
"I want to talk after this event." She pointed down at her phone which was taped to her hip.
It showed that it was recording.
Syl was silent for a moment. "Sure."
He walked away without another word as Kushida dawned a huge smile.
Btw have you guys seen Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? That shit is sooo fucking good!
