"I swear I will make them pay with everything I have. I will use my very own blood to sign the documents that will end them if I must!” To Champagne Gold, life was always like a fast-moving truck with no brakes and a drunk driver, one she couldn't avoid. At the age of five, she lost her parents in a helicopter crash. Life after that was one problem to another but she held on... until her grandfather passed away as well. With his death came the loss of her position of CEO and her hard-earned shares. As if that was not enough, she was served with divorce papers and the revelation of her husband's adultery with her cousin. Dealt with one too many blows, Champagne sought to end it all. Perhaps she could be reincarnated or whisked away to another world like the books she read before, but that was not to be. Instead, a mysterious man entered her life. "Rather than escape like a coward, I can give you the power and resources to carry out your revenge. I have but one condition―marry me.” Champagne held her lips between her teeth and took the offer. However, just when she believed her new life was going smoothly, she found out another painful secret. One more painful than any she had discovered before. She had undergone a uterus removal procedure and she didn't even know it. Now Champagne is more determined than ever to get revenge on everyone who wronged her. She would do and give everything to make them pay for taking away something so precious from her.
"Chammy, I Love you."
"I Love you with every beat and bit of my heart."
"Chammy, let's get married. I promise to love you and you alone for all—"
"LIAR!!!"
"Urgh" I groan and press my head into the pillow. "I can't believe he still has the audacity to tell me he loves me in my dreams." I murmur as I think of the annoying dream I just woke up from. "At least you were brave enough to call him a liar. Good job Champagne. Good job." I lazily pat myself on the head.
Languidly lifting my face from the pillow, I turn my head to the side. I squint my eyes as rays of sunlight creep in through the gaps in the fluttering blue curtains.
It's my first day…
My official first day.
First day as Mrs. Grand.
I still can't believe it. That I agreed to marry a man I don't know, that I signed a contractual marriage, and more intriguing, that I was actually able to sleep peacefully in a stranger's house.
Not so much of a stranger though.
More shocking is, I am officially a mother now. Even though I am yet to meet my newly acquired children. When we arrived at his place last night, he told me his kids were with his parents for the week and won't be back till the evening of today.
"Good morning Jesus." I say as I usually do every morning when I wake up.
It's my normal morning routine. I say good morning, then I study a portion of my Bible and say a little prayer before heading out to any place.
Today is no different. Just as I finish my prayer, a knock comes at the door.
"Pagne, are you awake?"
What in the world could he want so early in the morning? I haven't even brushed my teeth or washed my face. I was so out of it last night that I didn't even shower before going to bed.
Well, whatever. "I'm awake."
"Well, may I come in?"
"Oh, yeah. Sure. Come on in." I mean it's your house, sooo…
The door opens and I see him standing there, in a casual gray sweat suit, his hair unlike yesterday isn't gelled backwards. It's just tousled over his head and face and yet even this simple, normal look seems gorgeous.
And I still can't get over those eyes!
"Did you sleep well, dearest?" He asks with a soft smile that will warm the heart of anyone. Even if I didn't sleep well, I would be forced to say I did because of that smile.
"Yes, all thanks to you." I say, quickly turning my head away from him so he won't think I'm ogling.
"Good." He says as he sits himself down on the bed and I can feel him staring at me. Why? What does he want this morning?
"Would you like breakfast first, or do you want to discuss your revenge now?"
Ah, right. I finally lift my head and eyes to meet his gaze again.
That's true, it was only after I had gotten to his house last night did I realize I had not asked him an important question. How did he plan to help me get revenge? What kind of resources did he have to offer?
I know, it was foolish of me to sign the marriage papers without even knowing those things, but yesterday was just so crazy and everything just happened fast.
It was already evident to me that he was no ordinary bartender.
So yeah, I asked him about it last night and he said we should wait till today, that I needed rest. He promised to tell me today.
He was being considerate.
"Revenge. Tell me how you can help me." I instantly say, "I mean, from your mansion alone, I can tell you are rich. Filthy rich, if you don't mind my language." He grins and shakes his head, indicating that he doesn't mind. "But being rich is not the only thing that can help me take those wicked people down, if I am really going to. So, how exactly do you plan on helping m—?"
I pause as the growling sound of my stomach echoes through the room. My embarrassed and shocked gaze shifts from his face to my screaming stomach. I did not eat last night. He asked me to, but I was too tired and too devastated to.
"Hah, on second thought, we can do both." He says with a soft laugh. "Let's talk while we have breakfast together."
Together, why does that word sound so much better than it actually is?
…
Thankfully, he lets me chug down every last bit of his special fried bread recipe before we commence any discussion.
"Tell me Pagne, you're a businesswoman, so you must have heard of Harford Group."
"Harford? Yes. Of course. Who doesn't know Harford? That company is the most confused Group in the world." I instantly say and I see his brows cringe with confusion.
"I've heard people say they are one of the richest out there. But never have I heard anyone call them confused." He says as he hands me a cup of hot chocolate. Dear Lord, I can easily get used to this kind of treatment.
"Thank you." I say with a smile as he sits across me with his own cup.
"So what makes you say it's a confused company?"
"Well the fact that their business is rich is true, but they are also confused and I have my reasons for saying so." I sip from my cup and the warmth permits through my system so smoothly that I can't help the sweet shiver that runs throughout my body.
Thank you Lord for creating chocolate.
