Chapter 41: Resistance is Futile

The sounds of the ocean lulled me into a sleepy state. After driving the last hour in the middle of the night, I’m ready to fall asleep on this wicker chair. No sooner do I think it does Allie tap me on the shoulder, startling me from my half-sleep state.

"I think we should go to bed now." She yawns.

I stifle a yawn and nod. "Yeah. Okay."

We leave our empty glasses on the railing and shuffle towards the French doors. The lights still shine on the rose petals as Allie moves the swan-shaped towels off of the bed. I loop my shirt over my head and walk to the opposite side of the room. My pants fall away as I throw back the covers, scattering rose petals everywhere. I’m so eager to plop down into this bed and leave the day behind me.

"Turn off the light before you hop in," I mumble, wrapping the sheets up to my neck.
