I walked to the bathroom and brushed my teeth, took a bath and when I got out I noticed that the sun was coming through the window, it was strange. Usually, the sun only shone like this until 10 or 11 am.
I ran to check my phone and saw what I feared the most. It was 5 minutes to 11 o'clock. I dropped my phone and ran to my wardrobe, I tried to see what to wear, but I couldn't think straight.
- Ashley!... Ashley, help me, I'm so late! What should I wear? - I said as I tried to pull out shoes, coats, suits, skirts. I was a mess.
- What time is it? - My friend said in a sleepy voice.
-It's five to eleven.- I shouted nervously, taking out my make-up bag and brushing my hair, which was in terrible condition.
- Damn! Didn't you set the alarm? - She said to me as she got out of bed running and picked out an outfit for me.
-Yes, but it didn't ring. - I said as I smeared cream on my face.
-Okay. Leave this to me. Let's see, put this on while I look for your slippers. You must go beautiful today, even if it's getting late. - Ash said as she threw the clothes at me and searched through the mess we had made of the room.
- A red dress with black? Won't I attract too much attention? -
-Yes, yes, yes, yes. I know, but I love the way you look in a dress. Trust me! It's not for nothing that my mum used me as a guinea pig. - She said as she brought me a pair of black trainers.
I got dressed as quickly as I could when I was ready and was about to run away. Ash took me by the arm. She sat me on the bed and took my make-up.
- I won't let you go to that company like that. I know you're beautiful naturally, but you have dark circles under those beautiful green eyes. Give me 2 minutes to fix you up, in the meantime call a taxi! -
I listened to her and waited for her to fix me. She always talked me into everything. Once I was ready, my friend let out a shout of happiness and pushed me in the direction of the mirror on the wall. When I saw myself, I was shocked. I knew it was me, but this version looked different. I smiled and hugged my friend. I heard the taxi beeping outside my house. I grabbed the bag that my friend had packed, and we ran outside.
-If I were a man, I'd marry you. You look amazing! Attack baby! - Said my friend as she helped me close the taxi door. She came out to drop me off, but she didn't look in the mirror. Ash's hair was a mess, plus she had different slippers on, and she had dried saliva on her cheek. I smiled to see that she was always there for me.
I waved goodbye to her and watched her go into the house. The neighbours just stared at her in amazement. It was difficult for anyone to see her like that. She was always neat and presentable, but this time it was very different. I gave the address of the coffee shop, and once I arrived, I paid for the taxi and ran out to see Mateo.
I walked into the cafeteria and saw my friend sitting there. When he saw me, he opened his eyes in surprise while his mouth formed an O of how impressed he was. His reaction seemed a bit over the top to me. It's not like I don't dress up. It's just that I wasn't wearing dresses, let alone heels, let alone make-up.
- Darling, you look beautiful! And I wanted to scold you for being late, but I see it was worth it! - He said as he kissed me on the cheek and told me to sit down. - I figured you were running late, so I ordered breakfast for you. - Mateo smiled at me and motioned for me to eat what was in front of me.
-Thanks Matt, my alarm didn't go off? It was a disaster. - I let out a sigh and began to eat.
-That's why I'm your manager and friend.- - He pointed out triumphantly. - Look, I'll explain everything. The meeting with them is at 12:30, so we still have 30 minutes to get there. They will tell you what the project consists of, any document that has to be signed, we will read it, and I will tell you if it suits you or not. Ask all your doubts and be clear with what you want.
Is that OK? -
-Yes, let's go. - I said while I was drinking my tea. - Even though it's close to the company, there might be traffic. It's better to get there earlier. - I got up from my seat while I was looking for my wallet to pay.
-I've already paid for it. Come on! My car is outside. - He showed me the way to the exit.
-I'll pay you back for the ... -
-It's not necessary. Leave it like that. - He insisted as we left the café and walked to the car. -Get in. - He opened the passenger door. I hesitated whether I should get in or not, but I didn't want to be rude. I plucked up my courage and sat down, fastening my seatbelt as I clutched my bag and tried to manage my fear.
I internally convinced myself that I was very close to the company.
During the way we didn't talk, we only listened to the music on the radio. When we arrived, we parked near the entrance and got out. I looked at the time, and there were still 10 minutes to go. We walked together and went inside. It was the first time I went to a company as important as this one, the design and decoration was fabulous. We asked the secretaries about the meeting. They guided us to an elevator and gave us directions to the meeting room. As we entered the elevator, I began to feel nervous. After all, it was the first time I would be introducing myself to others and leaving anonymity behind.
Once we arrived, a secretary led us into the room and indicated that we should take a seat. I heard voices coming from the hallway and a knock on the door. I turned to see who would be the people I would be working with, they opened the door, and I saw two men in suits. If my memory serves me correctly, they were the friends of...
-Good afternoon.- Said a voice that interrupted my thoughts. That voice was Louis.
