Chapter 4: Rash Decisions

Janelle's P.O.V

The offer I was making him surprised even myself. Was I really thinking about it? Or was this some kind of rash decision I was making that I would end up regretting later on?

Cameron smirked, his lips tilting up in a seductive manner, or was he just that handsome that everything he did make me feel drawn to him more and more…

He leaned closer to me that I thought was possible, but I didn't back down either.

"Give me some of those sugar lips, Jane." He whispered to me, not caring about the fact that there were a lot of eyes on us. "If you spend the night with me…I promise to treat you like a goddess in bed…and so much more."

I gazed suspiciously at him, pulling away. And then I scanned the bar.

"Shy?" He teased me.

"I'm not shy!" I laughed, shaking my head as I took a gulp of my alcohol, trying to hide the fact that my heart was hammering against my ribcage loud enough for the whole club to know. "But I might take you up on that offer since I have nowhere to go."

"You have no money?" He raised his eyebrows, pointing at the army pants and the jacket I was wearing.

"I do have money. Enough money..." I had enough money to last me for eighteen years, now that I had the amount that Daniel had paid me back.

"So in other words, you are into me and although you can afford to lodge alone, you would rather spend the night in my arms than anywhere else?" He smirked, full of himself.

I said nothing. Shaking my head, I took another swig of my whiskey and asked the bartender for more.

In all honesty, I was probably riding the high from the alcohol and the fluttering feeling of my heart every time I met his emerald green eyes. It was a chance like no other, a chance to 'blow some steam' like Daniel had called it, but with no attachments involved. It was a perfect getaway even though a rash one.

But Cameron was too hot for me to let this chance slip away and I was too tightly wound and in need for some fun.

He broke the silence, making me look up and realize that his gaze had been on me the whole time. "Janelle?" He called my full name, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Hm?" I muttered, still distracted.

"What is the reason you have no place to spend the night?" He inquired. "I understand if it breaks your boundaries and I'm sorry for that. But I'm just curious to know."

I looked around the club to see if anyone was listening in on our conversation, but they weren't really. When we had arrived, it had still been daylight outside, but now that it was peak hour in the evening, more clubbers had started pouring in and the dance floor was getting crowded.

"I understand if you don't want to speak, Jane. I'm sorry if my question brings back memories that aren't pleasant to you." He lifted his cup and he took another brink from it.

"I was deployed from the army for eighteen months," I said.

"You're an actual military woman?"

"Don't I look like one?" I laughed, pointing at my pants.

"You do, you do." He scanned me from head to toe. To my bright, blue eyes, and short blonde hair that reached to my ears, then he rested his gaze on my outfit. A brown leather jacket, white tee underneath and my cargo pants. "Is this your uniform?"

"It is one of my uniforms." I shrugged. "I didn't have much time to change after I got back."

He looked at me, awed. "Wow!"

"Yeah," I answered with pride. I was proud of who I was and what I did. I would lay my life down to save my country.

"So since you were deployed…why didn't you just go back home to your family?"

I didn't respond immediately. I took some minutes to convince myself that I wasn't hurt before I started speaking again.

"When I got home earlier today, I saw my boyfriend in bed with another woman. He had already moved on from me and didn't even care to inform me."

"I'm sorry to hear that," he reacted empathetically.

"It's alright, I'm good anyway." I shrugged.

"You seem like you are. You don't in any way seem hurt by the experience." He was surprised to know that I wasn't sulking as was expected of someone who was going through the trauma that their ex put them through. "Are you sure you loved him in the first place?"

"I have one true love and that is my country. I learned this while I was still a child. The truth is, everyone can leave. But my country wouldn't leave me. My country wouldn't cheat on me either. And not with a woman whose voice sounds like a toad drowning in water."

Cameron burst out laughing so hard that he caught the attention of a few people nearby, before he looked back at me. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to laugh." He laughed even more.

"I meant it to be funny, you were meant to laugh." I shook my head, a smile on my face as I saw him smile. "You see, Cameron. I had always been prepared for this day. I knew it would come eventually, I just didn't expect it to come this soon. And even at that, I'm not hurt. Just surprised and a little disappointed."

"I love your mind. You're a very strong woman."

"I love my mind too." I clinked my glass to his before taking a sip, my mind feeling more and more at ease as the alcohol worked its magic.

"You should become like me," Cam suggested. "A free bird with no final destination but endless pit-stops!"

"What? Sleeping with married women?" I raised my eyebrows in amusements. "Did you just call them 'pit-stops'?" I couldn't help but laugh at the imagery.

"Doesn't matter to me who they are, I enjoy the company of any woman." He grinned.

"Until you're thrown into the street buck naked?" I laughed and he joined in.

Finally, I felt myself unwind, having fun with someone, even though I had no clue about who really was. "So?" I asked, before I changed my mind. "When are we leaving for our 'pit-stop' then?"

I raised my eyebrows in anticipation and watches as Cameron scrambled out of the chair and hold out his hand for me. "Why wait, my goddess? You're 'special treatment' awaits…"

Without hesitation, I placed my hand in his.
