Chimera Man

Humans and Predators are no different from one another. They kill, they hunt, they prey. Humans have always been the natural predators, slaughtering and domesticating animals to their will. What happens when the animals retaliate? An unknown strand of genetically modified DNA causes animals to expand and enlarge into terrifying horrible creatures that turn Humans, the apex predator, into the prey. Their strengths, a scientific wonder, are correlated to the fear of humanity. The more feared an animal, the stronger it becomes. What happens when a man becomes too feared?

"We're heading southbound for 4 more minutes, we'll reach the snowcapped mountains in no time." The pilot shouted to the back of the plane where a whole platoon of stacked soldiers sat patiently, their guns tightly in their hands.

Standing behind the pilot's seat was a modestly dressed man, a complete contrast from the rest of the team. Dressed in a suit and tie, his long black pants stopped at his shoes, covering them like a curtain. He wore a pair of pink sunglasses with golden frames, and a birthmark beneath his eye that cut across horizontally, like a scar. His callsign; Glasses.

"Prepare yourselves, men." He spoke with a bubbly and cheerful smile, a total contrast to everyone else's tense demeanor. "You're about to see shit you've never seen before nor shit you ever want to see. There are no rules in the outskirts, don't shoot yourself in the eye to blind yourself to the horrors." He said with a cheery tone, a complete contrast to the words he meant. "I'm just kidding, no one's done that for a couple of years." He shrugs his shoulders before turning back to the cockpit. "Ain't that right Eyie?" He points his finger to one of the men wearing an eyepatch. He's unamused by his joke. Glasses sighs and looks back.

"I can see them." A small village appears from the misty snow, a wide array of wooden huts and run-down buildings dotted irregularly. In the middle of the village was a giant frozen lake that seemingly glowed in the snow. "Boys, prepare yourselves!" He turned around and commanded the platoon, instantly causing all of them to stand up and at attention.

A small boy drags a hammer through the isolated woods. The sharp tip trails on the white powder that lay on the ground, leaving behind a line with footsteps deep in the snow. His eyes were sunken and red, his hair covered in snow and frozen and his eyelashes coated in a layer of ice. His clothes were blood-soaked as he was shirtless, his pants torn apart at the bottom.

His eyes slowly close as he drifts between the planes of consciousness. His head starts to spin as his grip on his axe slowly loosens. The entire world flips on its side, the trees rooted to the walls as his feet dangle to the sky. He collapses on the ground with his head deep in the cold snow.

"This is Liver, we've got someone here! Looks like a child, about seven or eight, armed with a weapon." A soldier slowly approaches the child on the ground, his gun drawn as he speaks into his walkie-talkie.

"Keep your eyes on em' Liver. You don't know what these people are capable of." Glasses spoke over the intercoms.

He slowly approaches the child and bends down, placing his knee in the snow. He places his gloved hand on the child's forehead. He's burning up. "Seems like a regular child." Liver says. "He's got a fe-"

The intercoms cut out on Glasses' side, and all he can hear is static. "Liver?" Glasses sat on top of a mountain peak, looking down at the village below as his men slowly entered the town. "This is Glasses, we've lost Liver. I repeat we've lost Liver." He speaks with a worried tone, finally breaking his usual calm demeanor.

Another group of men split and entered the main building. A giant warehouse made of sheet metal with wooden infrastructure. Its walls were painted red but were slowly being sapped of its color from the harsh winters.

"This is Lizard, I'm with Lamp, Onion, and Eyie," Lizard speaks over the intercoms to Glasses.

"Good, they're most likely all gathered inside the main building, so be careful." Glasses warns them.

Lizard opens the door to the giant building, the door creaking as the light from the snow-covered sun shines dimly. The sound of the unlubed metal doors slowly opening made a screeching sound that pierced the ears of all of them.

Onion tilts his head towards the door, signaling them to check the coast. Lizard nods as he walks with his gun forward, pointed directly in front of him. As Lizard takes a step forward on the metal floor, he stops immediately.

His breathing goes completely silent as he holds his breath, holding in his lungs and his fingers still, even in the cold temperatures. 'There's someone there.' He thinks internally.

Standing directly parallel on the other side of the door was a pair of glowing blue eyes, a humanoid that was holding an axe. "GO!" Lizard kicks the door, startling the entity to scurry away as all four of them barge into the warehouse, their guns pointed and their flashlights turned on.

All of them stood in silence, looking forward as their flashlights illuminated the unknown. From this point forward. They were no longer human. They had lost a piece of their soul. Lamp drops their gun entirely, completely shell-shocked.

In the warehouse were hundreds of metal hooks with people attached to them by their feet. Their heads were wrapped in blood-soaked bandages as the rest of the bodies dangled freely. Their appendages and limbs had been sliced off causing their blood to drip downwards.

The warehouse floor was a mix of bodily fluids, mainly blood. Their screams couldn't be heard as their mouths had been stuffed with cotton, stapled close. "What the fuck kind of shit is this?" Lizard screams out in fear.

"Ss!" Eyie turns and faces the source of the sound. There stood a mutilated man, frills from the sides of his grey skin as his eyes were slits. His arms were covered in scars and markings as if they had been cut off and destroyed several times. "Human flesh!" The humanoid creature pounces towards Pigpen who blazed the creature, sending pounds of lead deep into the creature's abdomen.

The creature screamed in pain as the bullets knocked it back, causing it to fall on its back to the ground.

Onion, on the other hand, was still freaking out from the sight. Hundreds of bodies on hooks can do that to someone. "Is this something sort of fucking farm?" The creature stands up, the bullets falling out from his wounds. He had completely healed all of his wounds and bullet holes, returning to brand new. In a flash, the creature disappears into the darkness of the warehouse.

"Yea, seems so." Glasses talk over the intercoms. He's reached the ground level where the rest of the soldiers are and he sees Liver's deceased body on the ground, a puddle of melted red snow around him as his body temperature heats the surrounding area. "They're Axolotl hybrids." Glasses moves his attention to the other corpse in front of him.

"Eat this!" Eyie and Lizard fire more rounds at the creature as the bullets merely go through his skin and flesh, yet the creature doesn't flinch. "What do we do? Lamp!" Onion turns to Lamp, the soldier who had dropped his gun and he's nowhere to be found. His gun lay on the floor as there marked a bloody trail. "Lamp is gone!"

Before Eyie and Lizard could turn around to face Onion, the creature took advantage of the moment and lunged at Pigpen and Lizard. The creature, in one swoop, had crushed both of their heads with just its palms, instantly killing both of them.

"Fuck!" Onion raised his gun and fired shots straight into the creature's frills. He continued firing even as his gun started to overheat, a valley of bullets raining down on the chimera.

There on the snow was a pulsating creature of flesh and blood, its body scattered in multiple pieces. Its arm was in a tree while its legs were on the ground, covered by snow. Its head was lying on the ground, parallel to Glasses. "They're semi-immortal." Glasses' shirt had been covered by blood and scratches. "They're used to the low temperature of the mountains, maybe they're susceptible to fire." Glasses pulls out a lighter from his pocket and lights it, throwing it at the decapitated head of the creature.

The creature howls and screams in agony as the embers creep up on it, engulfing it in a fiery firework of molten flesh. Its skin boils alive as the frills on its chin vibrate violently. "Seems like it." Glasses walk over the creature and stomp on it, crushing it to a paste.

"Eat-eat this!" Onion shoves the molten hot barrel into the mouth of the creature, instantly burning the inside of its mouth. The creature gallows in pain as the built-up pressure in the gun causes it to explode inside of the creature. Onion backs up, away from the burning corpse of the creature, and slowly catches his breath. On the hooks, the bodies slowly start to move and wiggle more, seemingly aggravated at the increase in temperature. "What do we do about the bodies?" Onion looks up to the hooks in the warehouse housing the bodies.

"They're cannibalistic, which means they eat their own kind. So I'm assuming all of those wriggling bodies are just like them. Burn the whole thing down." Glasses give the command as he hears footsteps slowly approaching him.

Glasses turns around and sees the same kid holding an axe slowly approaching him. Glasses smirks as he acknowledges the young boy's brave demeanor. He switches off the interiors on his ear and talks to the boy. "Are you with them?" Glasses point at the burning corpse.

"I am a human." The boy speaks.
