What is it about Calvin?

DIANA POV

The three-hour operation was exhausting, but fulfilling. The rollercoaster of emotions, the adrenaline and challenge are the points why I love my job. Saving a life is indeed honorable, working with others collaboratively is another story.

"Dr. Woodsworth, a word please", I know Dr. Miller won't let this slide. He called me out after I removed my gown and gloves.

"The next time you man my OR like that, I'm gonna kick you out", he said pointing a finger at me as soon as we're in the residents' lounge. "I'm the captain of this ship, you are just boarding in it. When I say stop, you stop.", scowling at me with his face turning red.

"Doctor, I may just be boarding your ship but we all have one goal in there. Make the patients walk out alive. Dr. Murphy may have trusted me with his life because he knows I don't give up on my patients even if I go through pin holes", I glared at him making a point that I refuse to be a pawn, and rather be called a team mate.

"You ain't all mighty to me. I don't care if you're a board member in this hospital.. In my eyes, you are still a kid with a knife", with his hands on his waist, Dr. Miller scoffed at me. I can see his chest breathe rapidly in anger, while I remain calm.

"I just saved your ass back there. I stepped up for the job that you should be highly expert with. I know what I was doing when you were just there giving up.. If you have problems with me saving a life, the kid with a knife is willing to see you in Dr. Blackwell's office.", I stared at him confidently with my hands on my side. When he have got nothing to say, I decided to leave. "And for the record, I'm no longer a board member.", I shut the door gently and leaned against it as I sighed.

After a few hours of recovering from the surgery, Dr. Murphy was back in his room. I went there as soon as I was informed he's already awake.

We were just quiet. Though, I can still say that he is the same arrogant man who looks down on me in his stares and smirks.

"Why would you trust your life in the hands of an enemy?", breaking the silence as I stood at the foot of his bed. I stared blankly at this cold man whom I know hated me since I set foot in this hospital.

"You're not my enemy", he whisphered in raspy voice, clearing his throat and waved at me to come closer.

"I'm not a friend", I said as I glanced at his cardiac monitor. His heartbeat and respirations are normal, he's not distressed and it doesn't imply that he's lying.

"I don't hate you, Dr. Woodsworth. You just happen you remind me of my daughter.", I'm surprised with what he said. This is the first time he opened up. Actually, the first time that we are talking at an eye level. I sat down on a stool beside him. This is going to be an interesting story of a man whom I thought have no heart.

"I was an Alva once. I gave everything to my daughter because I thought it's the best for her, so she wouldn't have to climb mountains.", he pauses every once in while. "I didn't know she isn't happy, and that the people around her bullies her for getting an easy access to her position. One day, she broke down and just left without a trace. My only daughter who is my whole world." His lips parted as it trembled, then folded them in a tight line.

"I see her in that blue eyes of yours. I see what a lame father I was to her. If only I let her take her own course, we could still be together as a family." Dr. Murphy smacked his dry chapped lips as he touched them with his fingers.

"Diana, I may not be a trusted person to you, and I deserve that. But, I placed my life in your hands for I know a great doctor like you would still treat the person you hate on your table and let them walk out alive. And you did, you didn't disappoint. I've always known you had that in you", he said. "The other doctors would've left me out in the cold corridor, I'm surprised I reached this point", he coughed softly as he breathe in discomfort.

"I've seen how strong you've become. I certainly hoped my daughter was like you, fierce and strong.", his eyes started to swell and his heart beat a bit faster.

I have no words for Dr. Murphy. I just held his hand and smiled. It is a risk to depend on someone you don't fully trust. Hence, for Dr. Murphy, he trusted his instincts and gambled with his life unwary of my capabilities as a doctor.

"I held your heart in my hand, I thought you didn't have any", I chuckled in a low tone. He smiled a little and stared at me closely.

"Diana, there's one more thing I need to tell you. Dr. Calvin…",

"Calvin! What are you doing here?", I'm surprised to see him for in fact, he is not also a fan of Dr. Murphy.

"I heard the operation was successful, so I decided to pay a visit.", Calvin went in with his hand in his pocket.

Dr. Murphy squeezed my hand, saw fear in his eyes. At that point, I realized that Dr. Murphy might have also known what Calvin really is.

"He's not allowed to have visitors yet. Can you wait for me outside?", smiling at Calvin so he won't notice I'm suspiscious of him.

"Sure, get well Dr. Murphy", he glowered his eyes at Dr. Murphy as he led himself out.

"What is it about Calvin?", I whisphered at Dr. Murphy as he answered in fear.
