A Talking To

Even though a question was asked, nobody says anything for a few seconds, just stares at each other in stunned silence.

"Once again, what is going on here? Where is your mother?" The question is directed at y/n, but I still get as nervous as if it was for me.

"She uh, she went to get s/n."

"So why are you here?" He turns to me.

"Uh, I um, we were..."

"You were what?" He basically growls at me.

"We were just hanging out!" Y/n tries to fix the situation.

"Sure. Why do you look like that? All red and wild-haired? What's been happening here?"

"A pillow fight." I'm glad to answer honestly.

"Right." He clearly doesn't believe me.

"That's seriously what we were doing!" Y/n backs me up.

"You. Come with me." He says to me, making panic rise and I forget to breathe for a second.

"Why?" Y/n asks, stepping in front of me.

"Because we need to have a talk."

"About what?" She continues.

"That's between me and him."

As if I wasn't scared enough.

"If he does anything bad I'll fight him." She whispers to me.

Effort appreciated, but it still doesn't help calm me, much.

I reluctantly follow him to a different room, wondering if I could transform and jump out a window.

But I don't want to leave y/n to deal with this alone.

"It's about time we have a conversation. Man to man. I want you to answer everything truthfully." He says as he shuts the door.

I gulp.

"So what were you really doing?"

"We really were having a pillow fight! The pillows are probably still wadded up if you want to look."

"And why were you here? When my wife is gone, no less."

"To be fair, I was here before she left."

"How long have you been here?!"

"Uhh, since last night?" I might as well admit it, he's gonna get it out of me eventually.

Hopefully it'll make this go faster.

"So you've been here all night? And my wife knew about it?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"What did you do?"

"We built a fort, ate, and watched movies."

"And that's all?"

"Pretty much. We played a game for a little while, but not long."

"And where did you sleep?"

"In the fort."

"What about y/n?"

"The fort was big enough for two."

"Mmhmm. Look, I'm gonna stop beating around the bush here, you're a good looking young man, I know my daughter thinks that, and that she thinks highly of you."

"Uh, thanks?"

"I don't want you taking advantage of that."

"Of course not, I would never!"

"Yeah. Right. I know boys your age. Everyone is after the same thing."

"Huh, so everyone is after a healthy relationship with someone who truly loves them, and cares about them? Shocker." That's just common sense, isn't it?

It seems this isn't the answer he was expecting, he certainly looks surprised, but it's true.

"Surprised I want a good relationship?"

"A bit. Perhaps I misunderstood some things."

"Yeah. I would've thought doing everything I could to find a way to bring her back from the dead would prove enough, but maybe not."

"You're just so young, I didn't expect anything serious."

"So because I'm young, I can't possibly have a serious relationship?"

"I guess that's pretty much what I thought."

"Hopefully you change that. I mean, we talk about getting married all the time, so it seems pretty serious to me."

"Well that's a while down the road."

"Yeah, but still."

He stares at me for such a long time, I start to feel uncomfortable.

"I've always worried about when my kids started to date. But maybe this won't be so bad."

"Uh, yeah."

"You just don't hurt my daughter, and we shouldn't have a problem."

"Well that's not gonna happen, so no worries."

"Good. So, pillow fight, huh?"

"Yep."

"Who won?"

"Y/n."

"Did you let her win?"

"She basically had me cornered."

"Ah. Well, I expect your mother is waiting for you, so run along."

"Uh, OK?"

"Good chat." He sticks his hand out, so I shake it and leave as fast as I can, and finally can breathe easy.

"What happened?! What did he say?!" Y/n asks, rushing over as soon as she sees me, and pulling me away from the door so he can't hear us.

She's clearly been waiting very impatiently.

"So you weren't listening at the door?"

She grins sneakily.

"I tried, but couldn't hear."

"That's what I thought."

"So?" She prompts once we reach her room.

"You know how these things go, don't hurt my daughter, nor touch her, and you might be a decent boyfriend for her." I recite, trying to impersonate her father.

"Well I think you're much better than just decent, jeez."

"Yeah, at least there's one rule I can follow."

"Yikes, only one out of three? You might fail this test. Although I hope the rule you're following isn't the No touchy one."

"Definitely not gonna be able to abide by that one." We already have our arms around each other, it basically just happens without even meaning to.

"Good." She quickly checks around before leaning up and kissing me.

"Oh come on! I have the worst luck!" Plagg groans when he flies in and sees us.

"That's how it's supposed to be, right?" Y/n asks.

"Yeah yeah, whatever. Maybe it is.  Now, when are we going home? I need more cheese!"

"Uh, I guess now. Mom will be waiting for me. Hopefully she'll buy Nino and I playing Truth or Dare when she asks what all we did." I wink, trying not to laugh too loudly at that mental picture.

"Good luck with that."

"Thanks." I laugh, give her a tight hug and pick up my bag.

She must've moved it in here when I dropped it to follow her father.

"Claws out!"

Once the transformation is complete, I walk to the window.

"He was very worried about you." Y/n says as she picks up Shadow to keep him from escaping.

"Yeah, I'm sure he was."

"Aw, he was! Now, say bye, Shadow!" She says, making him face me.

"Goodbye, Angel." I give her a side hug to avoid the cat, as well as a quick kiss.

"Bye, little punk." I say, trying not to laugh at y/n's face, so I can keep up the joke.

I go outside and jump off the balcony, wondering what all I can tell Mom.
