The Condition

The family sat together to discuss our inheritance, it's taken long enough and is finally ready. My dad being the only son of my multi-billionaire grandfather had been taking care of the family companies since my grandfather retired, so to speak. Two years ago, dad said he was also going into retirement, he had fully grown children and shouldn't have to go through the stress anymore. Handling the four different companies must had been a really tasking job and now, he was ready to hand over.

We all eagerly awaited the announcements as we watched him bring out the written documents. For one, we knew one of us was getting nothing, considering we were five and the companies were just four. There was the YK Fashion, YK Beauty, YK Hotel, and YK Airport, all of which was under the YK Foundation. The goal is to provide needs for people, you can travel in and out of our airport, enjoy your stay at our hotel, of course, you can't forget shopping and maintaining your good look. In short, YK aims to monopolize the main market.

"Lets begin with the Foundation, heading the foundation means being above all the four companies under the foundation, hence, the foundation chairman is the head of all four CEOs". Dad began, we all readjusted in our seats not expecting the position of the foundation chairman out in the open. Grandpa had been the chairman since before any of us was born till date.

"I see you all are eager to hear this one, well, my father, your grandfather had decided to step down completely and transfer the position to me. Yes, we all know retirement doesn't mean leaving the foundation. And to you the children, the four companies has been bestowed. First is the YK Airport, and it has been agreed upon that Damien meets the requirement for his inheritance and so would be the new CEO of YK Airport". Dad announced. Our faces were full of smiles and anxiety as we awaited who amongst us has been casted aside.

Dad presented to Damien, a printed document to which he had to sign. "The terms there says you have to keep helping the foundation grow as you already are. Your being engaged to Elsa is a huge step and sacrifice for the foundation and it has been very well acknowledged".

Damien signed the document, although given his inheritance, he wasn't exactly happy with it. Elsa was a bind to him, he never like her, his engagement to her was just for the family and he was hoping to break it as soon as he had the chance but would that also mean he had to lose the company? Damien is a smart kid, I bet he'd do what suits him the most.

"YK Beauty has been transferred to Eve after much consideration. She has contributed a lot to the foundation through her hardwrok over the years. Blessed us with a successful marriage and two wonderful kids". King and Queen bubbled where they sat, proud to have been mentioned. Her husband also had a huge smile on his face, happy for his wife, he held her hands as they both exchanged warm smiles.

The remaining three of us waited impatiently have our names called, as dad picked up the next document we had our eyes fixated on him, anxiously waiting.

"YK Hotels has been transferred to Asher, this appointment is valid as a result of his hard work as well. He's contributed enormously to the growth of the hotel, his recent interventions to several issues concerning the hotel hasn't gone unnoticed. He has proven himself to be capable and responsible enough to take on this responsibility". The tension in the air became more visible as Hunter and I were the only two left.

Truth was, we were the two most problematic children. Eve being the first child was very responsible, she got married five years ago to Gerald Ford, the son of yet another very wealthy family. His family own the biggest Winery and are known for their affluence, she was so lucky to bag one of their sons. Despite their marriage being of convenience, they had managed to stay happy, strong, and fallen in love with each other.

Damien, the second child was also very responsible. He took things seriously, a lot seriously than I think was necessary. When he engaged Elsa Breed, the only daughter to Venz Automobile, the family was beyond happy. They had met by chance at a party in Venice and became close, to Damien, she was a mere fling but she took it more seriously and pressured her family. Soon it became a family affair, and he was forced to engage her.

I, Cameron happen to be the third child. I'm the best I could be, except I was never serious when it came to women. Never found a woman to make me fall in love, so I keep trying out several. Everyone thinks I have a woman problem but the truth was, I am just on a search for the perfect woman.

Hunter is my twin, not only does he not care about anything except money, he doesn't take responsibility for anything either. Two years ago, he knocked some lady up and is still being forced to take responsibility for the child. I guess now he manages to pay child support, and the baby's mother? He claims not to like her. Also, Hunter spends more time drinking and living the life than he does anything. We call him the irresponsible one.

Sometimes they say something went wrong during our pregnancy, and that is why we both turned out that way. To me, I am nothing like Hunter. Asher is the last kid, and in his own way, he manages things better than expected. He has a knack for business, leadership, and making decisions, we have great expectations of him.

Dad looked between us two and sighed. "Both of you have something to your names but with conditions".

"You never make things easy for me, do you?" Hunter complained.

"YK Fashion is appointed to Cameron…"

"Yes!" I said happily, well, until his but came in. I totally forgot he had a condition.

"But… but Cameron, the appointment is only valid upon your marriage! Well, you might be allowed to partially take it up when you get engaged to marry". Everyone stiffened their laughter not taking chances of me lashing out at them. I knew I had a thing with temper, everyone knew.

"Nothing for Hunter, is that it?" Hunter went on complaining again. Oh, was he there? I guess we all completely forgot about him.

"Oh no Hunter, how would I forget about you?" Grandpa said, his smile was kind of sarcastic and mocking but he meant it if he said he wasn't left out. This has everyone curious as to what was left for him.

"We have decided to create your very own company, YK Relaxation Center. It's a huge establishment that comprises a gym, spa, swimming pool, lounge, bar, and a gaming center". Dad explained. It indeed was specially made for him. "On the condition that you officially bring Georgia home as your woman".

"Dad!" He whined. There was no way he was bringing Georgia home, he doesn't even like her. Everyone began leaving one after the other, assuming the discission was over and whatever was left was between the parents and Hunter. I can boldly say that Hunter was left with nothing, it's a great plan they have to build him his very own company, I must say Grandpa really did think hard and deep about this one but with his condition, I see him with nothing.

Our parents had helped us understand that giving our inheritance while they were alive was so that we won't go fighting each other over inheritance after they died. Also, we know that our inheritance is what we pass on to our children, so how well we build it to give them more than enough to go round is our business. I must say my family is really unique in its own way.

I must say they really got us good with their conditions, I held the document in my hand going over it again and again like the marriage clause was going to disappear but it remained there. I sighed, getting into my car and drove down to my house.

All of our houses were built in our little Estate with our parents house at the center. Even though we lived in the same compound, each mansion was quite some distance from the other but our parents insists we do not leave the estate.

As I paraded my house, a glass of wine in my hand, I couldn't help but wonder who exactly I could get married to. This was really a tough one!
