Returning

Meanwhile, Alfred had never expected to see this place again, at least, not this soon. This is a place that he had been trying to avoid for a good two centuries, or rather, a place where he had been forbidden to step foot in.

However, it seems like no matter what he does, or how hard he tries to escape the past, it always tend to stick with him as a constant reminder of his need to seek a new beginning and build a life of his own. This was what led to his stay in the slums, where he felt accepted.

The need to build a life of his own, a life outside the rules and regulations of his Horde, one that he is now returning to after two centuries. Walking through the several once familiar hallways which now looks strange, Alfred felt nostalgic.

The feeling of his returning to his Horde is something that brought a sense of longing, relieve and foreboding that Alfred couldn't shrug off as his heart felt extremely heavy. He couldn't help it as he let his mind drift off in the thoughts of the reasons surrounding his return and the sudden request for his presence by his father.

Could it be that his old man finally had a change of heart and misses his only son after all these years? Nah, that is highly unlikely as his old man is someone that doesn't give a care about anyone since he is literally cold to the core.

Besides, he had clearly made it known to Alfred that under no circumstances should he step his feet into the Horde's territory as he had banished him since that day that he was defied.

The fact that his presence is now something that is requested for left Alfred baffled. For a moment, he couldn't help but constantly run several possibilities as to the reasons his old man called him back home.

After what felt like ages walking through a maze, Alfred was brought into a grand hall where the seat of authority of the Horde is positioned. The Throne Hall is a space that exists in every manor, or castle, of a Carnal Shifter, be it THRIVE or STRIVE.

This unique room signifies and solidifies the authority and power possessed by the supposed leaders of these organizations. Generally, in these organizations, Thrones are the names of the hierarchical ranks, apart from being physical seat for power.

Thus, the higher one's Throne is, the higher one's rank and influence. For the Primes who occupies the Primordial Thrones of THRIVE, they command the most power, with the Dragon Primordial Throne being the highest rank, thus sealing their authority and power.

For STRIVE whose names of first and true Carnal Shifters varies by the names accorded to the leaders of each Hordes under it, the Wyvern Throne is the highest in rank and therefore the strongest in STRIVE.

Also, the Scaleborn who is the leader of the Horde of Wyvern is known to be the strongest Carnal Shifter, either in the Horde Of Wyverns or STRIVE.

The Throne Hall of the Horde Of Wyverns is located in the heart of their palace, overlooking the city skyline. It has a dome- shaped ceiling with retractable transparent roof offering panoramic views. The walls of the Hall are made of crystals which are faceted, LED infused glass panels refracting light and it contains gravity defying, holographic illuminated stairs that float. It floors are made of polished marbles which are inlaid with subtle, glowing circuits.

The Throne which is placed at the centre of the Hall is an incredible piece of technological ingenuity and luxury. It features a levitating design as it is suspended by magnetic fields, adorned with holographic accents; biometric interface which allows neural interface and voice activation, holographic projections for data visualization and communication with AI powered assistance.

The Throne itself is made of pure gold, adorned with a touch of diamonds and precious stones arranged in such a way that they tend to form intricate and exquisite designs. It also features an heated/cooled seating, depending on the climate and enables a comfortable seating with it's massage enabled feature.

For the Throne Hall, it features environmental control that includes climate lighting and ambiance adjustment via thought or voice commands of the Scaleborn seated on the Throne.

It also features smart glass windows with a variable tint, UV protection and augmented reality displays. Through it advanced nanotech filtration system, the Throne Hall enables air purification and scent diffusion which makes the atmosphere in the hall crisp and clean at all times.

Although no security feature is needed for the Throne Hall, it still contains biometric scanning with advanced facial, voice and DNA recognition, making it so that no other person besides the Scaleborn and his family can have access to the Throne Hall behind their backs. It features energy shielding for the Throne and occupants should it ever be needed during an attack on the palace.

Also, real time monitoring and threat analysis are made pissing through AI powered surveillance, eliminating the need for Armoured Elites, though, they are still placed in some part of the palace.

Alfred gazed at his father, the Scaleborn of the Wyverns, seated on the opulent Throne with a series of emotions flickering in his eyes. Though his father is over four centuries years old, with the sharp gaze his eyes held and the oppressive aura he emitted, his presence is one that commands respect and invoke humility.

For a moment, the duo in the hall simply stated at each other without saying a single word. What could Alfred possibly say anyways? For the first time in two hundred years, Alfred finally saw his father again but their meeting this time is likened to that of two strangers.

And truthfully, in Alfred's heart, he knows that is all his father is to him now, a mere stranger. Especially since that incident. The incident which occured just over two hundred years ago was still fresh in Alfred's mind and try as he might, he couldn't rid himself of those painful memories.

Those memories are the one thing that caused him to sleep using pills and often times, in fact more times than he could keep count of, they had caused him to be lost in thought leading to his lack of concentration as he would stare at space with nothing in his mind but the pain exerted on him by those memories.

Those memories tend to gnaw at his heart as a constant reminder of the heart wrenching incident that took place over twenty decades ago, an age when Alfred was still in his prime and could be considered a teenager.

Like most teenagers, Alfred had also fallen in love; so deeply that there was nothing that could pull him out, not even the warnings and occasional threats of his father. Those warnings and threats came into existence as a result of the kind of girl Alfred had fallen for.

The girl wasn't a STRIVE Carnal Shifter, and to make matters worse, she wasn't even a human but a different race of Carnal Shifters. One that his father bore a heavy grudge against. The girl was a THRIVE Dragon Carnal Shifter.

For the Scaleborn, Alfred's father, the kind of relationship that existed between a Dragon and his son, a Wyvern, is not one that could be tolerated. Simply put, it was a union that he considered an eyesore.

One that he stopped at nothing to put asunder to. Constantly pestering Alfred to break up with the girl, alongside issuing threats, the Scaleborn made sure that the relationship was short-lived.

However, Alfred was mad over heels for the girl. He was so madly in love with her that he defied his father's wishes times without number until his old man couldn't take it anymore. Seeing that his son is hell bent on bringing shame to the Horde by indulging an eyesore, the Scaleborn resorted to a despicable and destructive means, death.

With that, his old man killed the female Dragon Carnal Shifter, thus, causing a war outbreak between the two organizations which lasted for a century. Alfred had argued and fought with his father that he almost killed his old man.

In a fit of rage, his old man banished him, his only son and heir to the Throne of the Wyverns, which caused Alfred to relocate to the slums after roaming the world in search of a refuge.

Alfred spent the next twenty decades living in the slums but who knows that fate would later bring him back to the monster who had his one and only true love murdered. Even the thought alone made Alfred's blood boil but he managed to keep a facade of calmness.

"War is coming, Alfred." The Scaleborn announced, breaking the heavy silence in the Hall. "We need to be prepared for the war so all hands should be on deck." As he spoke finish, the Scaleborn narrows his eyes at his son who let out a mocking laughter that resounded in the silent Hall before shaking his head pitifully.

Alfred is grateful that he does not have much expectations from his father, or else, he would have been thoroughly disappointed. It seems like the passage of time over two hundred years without his son had made the Scaleborn lost his sense of fatherly warmth.

Imagine a father who sees his son for the first time after two hundred years apart, only to greet him with the news of war. Such fatherly figure indeed.
