A New Life

CHAPTER TWO

I am now on my way to work. I will be working as a designer. My best friend is the one who’s running the company so it’s a little easy for me to get in to the position I’ve applied for. To be honest, I didn’t actually knew that she owned the company that I applied to. If I knew I would’ve skip that company because I’m trying to be away from the mutual friends that me and my husband had. Although Xana was my best friend since pre-school, I still had to drop our friendship to stay away from my husband.

“Aera! You finally showed me your face after over a year!” Xana greeted me and kissed my cheeks. “I missed you, Xana.” I hugged her tightly. I regretted that I dropped her. I know I can trust her but maybe I’m just selfish.

“I missed you too, Aera. I know you’ve been through so much, but always remember I’m here okay? I’m your best friend.” How I missed her sweet comforting voice. “Enough with the drama! Let’s go to work. Can I see your designs?” She tried to lift the atmosphere between us. I immediately took the files that I’ve brought to show them my designs.

“Nothing changed! You are still a very good designer, Aera!” She praised me. I just smiled and proceed to show my other designs. “That is so good! I want that one to be our first project together!” She said. Xana pointed to my design that is inspired of a wedding dress. I agreed to her because out of all the designs I’ve made, it is the only one who stand up.

“Come on, Let’s continue the discussion on your office! I’ll tour you around the building too.” Xana suggested. I picked up my things and followed her outside her office.

“Here at the ground floor, you can find the cafeteria here. Although on every floor there is a cafeteria. Office of trainees are located here and the extra offices are stored with materials.” I nodded and try to remember all the offices in the ground floor.

We then proceeded to go to the second floor. The second floor consist of Xana’s Office and the other designers’ offices. “Here is your office! Right beside mine. Cause I’m only one call away hun!” She clung into me. I rested my head on her shoulders, “I’m thankful you still stay, Xana.” I am really thankful that after cutting ties with her without any explanation she still consider me as her best friend and nothing changed at all.

“Of course! Didn’t we promised each other that we would be god mothers to each others’ children?” I cough at her thought. If only you knew. You have your god child already.

“Yeah. Of course. How could I forget our promise to each other?” She hugged me. We then proceeded to the third floor which is where we manufactured the gowns and dresses that we created. The fourth floor is where we store the dresses that we’ve made. And lastly is the fifth floor which is basically the storage floor, it is where the other materials are stored.

“So I’ll leave you here at your office. Call me when you need me, okay? And feel free to do anything today. I’ll have the work that I needed you to do delivered here tomorrow. I have meetings to attend so I’ll see you after lunch cause we have a lot to catch up!” She kissed my cheeks and leave my office.

I got out of my office to familiarize myself of the building. When I was about to close the door I bumped into someone.

“Oh my god! I’m so sorry!” I said and bow many times so that he could feel my sincerity. He laugh. His laugh was very nice. It’s like an invite to laugh with him. I chuckled a little. Oh my clumsiness. “It was my fault! Don’t say sorry.” He looked to me, “Your face is not familiar. Are you new here?” He asked. I nodded and smile at him. Of course it’ll be so impolite of me to not smile to colleagues right?

“Oh! How impolite of me to welcome you with bumping!” He joked and touched his hair. He actually looked so nice. He’s tall. He has brown eyes. Fair skin tone and broad shoulders.

“I’m Cahil. You are?” He told me his name. “I’m Aera Zerine Levin but you can call me Aera.” I said. He offer his hands so I shook it as a sign of politeness of course.

“You are a designer too right?” I nodded.

“Great! Come with me. I’ll introduce you to the other designers too. They’re all nice don’t worry!” He gave me an assuring smile. I guess it’s fine to make new friends.

We walked into the second floor’s cafeteria. Not a lot of people were there. Just some who’s chatting with everybody else. I see they all have a strong bond as co-workers.

“Hey guys. I would like you to meet Aera! Our new designer.” Cahil introduced me to everyone. Everyone turns their face to us and immediately greet me. They’re indeed nice.

“Welcome to the team Aera! I’m Reyyan.” A girl with curly hair is the first one to greet me. She seems so nice. Well, everybody is. I greet her back too and she gave me a hug.

“Welcome! I’m Klaud!” A man with ginger colored hair greeted me. He’s tall like Cahil but He’s darker a bit than Cahil. And his body is bigger than Cahil's.

“Welcome! I’m Emeri!” She hugged me and smile. She’s a very sweet girl like Reyyan.

We all introduced ourselves to each other and decided to stay at the cafeteria for a bit so that we can talk about things. After everyone was called they told me that we will meet later after their meetings.

I decided to have a walk outside the building. Fresh air. I found a coffee shop right down the block. Coffee is good in morning. I walk in to the shop and the scent of different flavors of coffees welcomed me. I fall in the line and wait for my turn.

When it’s my turn I told the barista my order and used Elif’s name as my name for the order because I missed my baby girl so much. I sat down at the table near the window. It’s a sunny morning. A perfect day to be exact. Perfect Day to start a new life after hiding for over a year.

“Elif!” I heard the barista call my daughter’s name. I immediately stand up and made my march to the counter. Little did I know a man already grabbed my cup. He must have misheard it.

“Excuse me? I think you misheard the name. It’s Elif.” I asked politely.

“I know it’s Elif. It’s mine Miss.” He look up to me. After meeting each other’s eyes we found ourselves both in shock. D-Devan?

“Aera?” He asked. I immediately shook my head. Denying that I am Aera. “N-No. My name is not Aera.” I answered. Trying to avoid any eye contact.

“Yes it is! Aera Levin right?”

“N-No sir.” I was about to leave the shop but then it calls Elif’s name again.

I immediately grab my coffee and leave the shop as soon as possible. I’m taking back what I said! It is not a perfect day. It was not a perfect day just to see someone who ruined my whole life. Hoof! Aera pull yourself together! He is nothing to you now so ignore him like a rock. For the sake of Elif.
