THE ULTIMATE DEFENCE
"Ah, Kaneki"
Hayami said as She looked a little eccentric while waving at the guy.
"Oh, Hayami-San"
"Where have you been, you know you were supposed to be here for sometime now"
"Sorry, I just needed to get my mouth busy, there was this new popcorn cheese flavor released not too long ago and I haven't tasted it yet"
"And you picked today of all days, We were waiting for you, ya know"
"Sorry I will just get on with it"
"Go change"
Hayami literally went from kind and eccentric to a strict mean mom and Kaneki was the unlucky child born under her care.
"What's with that guy it's like he has no drive, is he even interested in tennis at all"
"I don't know, I've never seen him with a drive for anything other than to keep his mouth busy"
"He must be a pain in the ass for you"
"Yeah...at first glance he is, but he's got talent if only he had the drive he would be one of those handful of people I would like to go against on a daily basis, that's why he's not yet a regular and I'm sure he would have been one if he had just tried at all".
He must really be a pain, but still for Hayami to acknowledge him when he doesn't work much, I mean he literally looks lazy for his height and build, he must either be a genius or born under a bizarre star.
"Hayami-san....is it you I'm gonna go match against this time?"
Kaneki came back all ready and asks Hayami if he's up against her not being scared at all.
"No you will be going up against Akasuki over there"
She said as she pointed at me, Kaneki head turns to look at me at whee Hayami and from the look on his face I could really tell he just lost interest in me, or maybe he just look dissatisfied.
"That's really Lukewarm Hayami-san, can't I go against someone more challenging"
He said as he scratched the back of his head like he's got a ratch right there. But he's one to talk, if not for Hayami telling me he's good It would've been me who said it while being disappointed not him.
"Don't be like that Kaneki-Kun, You can't judge a book by its cover...just test him out for me, and if you do I can by you a whole packet of the limited special product the strawberry popcorn flavor".
Hayami said and the guy agreed, I guess Hayami succeeded in making him a little interested in me.
We both left for the court holding our rackets.
"Woah seriously the game is about to start"
"Yeah check their difference in height, it's like that of an adult against a child"
The people spectating continued to talk, now that I get really close to the guy he's kinda tall and his body size is quite hard, I hope the guy doesn't have strength on a next level from me.
"Let's both make this game enjoyable"
"Y-Yeah"
I got flustered when he said we should make the game enjoyable.
"The Best of One!, Kaneki Service Play!!'
Woah the game is finally starting, am I nervous, someone of his size...I wonder how he plays and also the amount of people gathered here is a lot, those eyes are like a thousand needles being aimed at me on a single spot and they all tell you not to move, it's totally insane.
He raised the ball into the air a little and smashed it towards me. That's fast, it's an high speed serve even when measuring our difference in height, he really doesn't underestimate anyone does he?. One moment he hits the ball the next the ball bounces close to me.
I rushed quickly to where the ball bounced and returned it to him. The guy rushed forward and got close to the net as he smashed it back to my side, really what a guy, I shot it back at him again but since he was in the middle I shifted my aim a-little to the right and hit the ball with my racket.
"Too easy"
He muttered and my shot I thought he would miss was returned and I couldn't catch it.
"1—0"
"Kaneki Scored First!"
"Oh please it's just like we expected, just because he took out Hayaku and Kakeru he must have been getting cocky that he challenged Kaneki,-Senpai to a match".
The Audience began to comment but I just didn't care, but just now...did he just predict where I was going to return it to, no maybe he just did it reflexively cause he looks like that kind of guy, right?.
He served towards me and I returned it with a curve.
"It's not a bad Idea but it's still within"
Kaneki-Senpai said as he returned the ball towards my court, I won't lie this guys a tough cookie.
"2—0"
The game started and I returned the ball towards the left hand side of the court, but I noticed something he quickly moved to where I aimed it at and struck it with full force.
He hits the ball up to the net again after smashing. He's really close and with his build it's like he's pressuring me.
It bounced on my court once again but seriously what a pain, should I hit it to the left, should I lob it or just hit it straight, no he will still be able to reach it, seriously this guy's defence is insane but I should go with this....
"A Cross-shot?!, using a cross shot at that distance isn't he going too far this time"
"It's is still easy"
N-No way!!!, this bastard...h-he actually caught the ball even after that, what is with this guy, he's way too fast. He returned the ball to myside. I have to regain my calmness or it will affect my thought process and how I play, I seriously need to take out this guy. I also moved fast towards the ball and counter it.
"A miss"
I heard from the Audience, as I thought, being against this guy really affected me and now I missed.
The ball I shot back hits the net and falls.
"Kaneki leads 3—0"
"Do you still wish to continue even after knowing your place"
"Yes"
I threw the ball into the air and smashed it to land really close to his body, he reacted fast enough to catch the ball and sends it to me without much stress, I caught the ball and also sends it back at him. He moved to where it was while holding the racket with both hands as he hits it again. I rushed to where it would land and bend down a little in other to pick it up.
"A Lob!!, it's way over Kaneki-Senpai's head"
The lob might be high but looking at him he has the height advantage so I'm sure he can still catch it, maybe but that's not the reason I did it.
"HE HITS IT!!, THAT HIGH!!"
This is my first time seeing Kaneki-Senpai play before but it not surprised he hits it back.
He jumped only a little and smashed it into my court.
"Not even the Lob was bad for him what a guy, why haven't we seen him play this well before?"
As I thought he does look like some one with no motivation but that was not just a thought anyway I need to do something about that strong defence of his it's starting to tick me off.
"Your Lob wasn't bad in fact I will say you're impressive, to be even exchanging shot with me for this long...but still, it won't be enough as long as you still use that mentality of yours, you might be a regular but it will still be my win...always"
I don't know why but him saying those kind of words with confidence makes my blood boil but not in a bad way, to be sincere I'm starting to enjoy this. I will do my best to make this guy become one of my stepping stones towards a greater height.
"There was a technique I've had on my mind since I was in middle school but I never really got any chance to test it out, but I wonder if now is the right time to test it"
"Hmph, you still try to cover your fear with that smile of yours, but whatever you do it is still too Lukewarm to get past me"
He said as he moved back a little and he got ready to serve throwing the ball slightly into the air and hitting it at full force.
A service but it's still fast, Not that it doesn't matter its just that I'm ready to face anything that comes my way from now on.
