CHAPTER SEVEN

Elena and June spent the afternoon together. They had the same classes and June kept on holding her so tight like she was scared she'd runaway.

June might have noticed, Elena barely spoke. She made sure they didn't dive into any personal question. She didn't want to find herself keeping a distance from her again. She did all the random talking while she just chipped in.

Elena missed her.

"Did I tell you about me and Daniel?"

"Ayyyy," she screamed, pulling her closer. "Spill girl."

Elena smiled. She told her how she saw him and ended up talking for hours.

"You're cute," she cooed. "Just wait, he'll be asking you on a date soon."

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

She tickled her, standing up. "I'll get us something to eat."

Elena nodded, watching her dance towards the counter.

She sighed.

She looked around the cafeteria, hoping she'd see Daniel. Her eyes, instead, met with Ivy's as she waved at her.

She waved back interrupted by the ringing of a phone. It rang again. She quickly figured it was June's phone as she reached to her backpack to search it.

Her caller ID flashed 'unknown no'. A random person Elena thought.

She stopped.

June had an habit of abbreviating her 'number' into 'no'. Definitely, the call company wouldn't do that.

Could it be...

She couldn't possibly have saved the number.

It's nothing. It's probably nothing.

Elena fiddled with June's phone in her hands. She could go through her call logs and messages and probably loosen a bit of the mystery forming in her. head.

It's nothing.

She hesitated as she took her phone again. One quick glance. Just one.

She swiped her home screen, only to be welcomes by a lock screen. She groaned internally as she dropped the phone back into her backpack, seeing her coming. She had no idea what her password was and had no plan on guessing.

"Your phone rang," Elena said, as she took her seat, placing the tray she was holding on the table.

"Oh," She said, Elena unable to read any emotion from her face. "Who was it?"

"Unknown number."

She shrugged. "Probably a random person or stalker."

"Mhmm," she replied, Elena eyes fixed on her. She sighed as she shifted her gaze, digging her hands into the bag of chips in front of her.

The final bell rang, signifying end of school hours. Elena bid June goodbye, heading straight to the library. To study and be alone.

During classes, June's phone rang. She flashed Elena a fake smile she didn't return immediately she noticed she was staring.

Elena brushed the thoughts away. She shouldn't be thinking about it.

She spotted Ivy coming up. She uselessly tried to look away but it was too late- she had spotted her already, immediately waving. She reluctantly waved back, walking towards her.

Great.

"Hey."

"Hey," Ivy replied. "What's up?"

"Nothing much," Elena shrugged. "You heading to the library?"

"Yeah," she replied. "I was hoping I'd see you."

True.

"Oh, why?"

"Oh nothing much," she replied, her hands finding their way to her neck. "Just...are you okay?"

"Of course I'm okay," Elena laughed lightly. "Why?"

"Just that you and June," she replied, Elena raising her eyebrows. "You two haven't been around each other like you used to. Are you guys okay?"

Elena pressed her lips together. Was she stalking her?

"It's nothing," Elena replied trying to smile. "We're totally fine."

"Oh," she said, 'i don't believe you' written all over her face. "Okay then. Ah, I'm throwing a party this weekend, wanna come?"

Elena smiled, pursing her lips together.

"Okay, let me rephrase," Ivy said smiling. "I am throwing a party this weekend and you must be there."

"I can't promise you," Elena replied truthfully. "I'll see if I can make it."

"You have tooooo," she drawled. " I asked June already and she said she'll be there."

True.

"June's going?"

Now, that was weird. For all she could remember, June didn't like Ivy.

"Yup," she replied, popping the 'p'. "I asked her yesterday, she asked if you were also going to be there."

True

"Okay, fine. I'll be there," she finally said, not sure.

She nodded, turning probably to go home. Elena watched her figure slowly disappear in the hallway before heading back to the library.

The library door welcomed her with a small squeak as she opened it. She looked around not sure what she was searching for. The library was scanty- more scanty than usual. Her eyes immediately met with Daniel's as they exchanged smiles.

Elena awkwardly walked over to meet him, on his signal for her to come over.

"Hi."

"Hey," he smiled, patting the seat beside him. " You're late."

"Late?"

"Of course," he nodded. "I told you I'd be tutoring you, remember?"

Elena couldn't stop a smile accompanied with a little blush find their way to her face. "Sure."
