"Hey Jinnie?"
"Yes Niko?"
"I never got to ask you, but why is your hair red and long?" Nikolai asked then took another bite of cake.
Sipping again from his protein shake, "I know it's an unusual choice of hairstyle, fun fact I actually dyed it red again recently! Though Padma says I should consider going blonde, but I'm not sure that's what I want." Jin replied.
"Padma? Hmmm that's an Indian name, was she the hairstylist who did your hair?" Nikolai asked.
"Oh yeah! Maybe I should visit her soon, and actually let her dye my hair blonde again.
I did look better in blonde." Jin replied.
"Honestly your hairstyle is weird but I've grown to like it...wait, did you say 'Blonde again'? you went blonde for a while?" Nikolai questioned.
"Yeah, because my natural hair color is like Seong-min, dark...It always made me feel a little different from my mom, not to mention I'm clearly asian and she was white...like your mom.
Forget I mentioned you mom, Anyways! one day I decided to change it, though I don't really dye my hair that much, I only dyed it twice blonde then went black I mean natural again for a while then I decided I wanna try red then I let Padma dye it red again, it was the second time I went red." Jin explained.
"Why did you care that you looked different than your mom? I never did! Maybe because my mom is a red head and to be honest I don't think I'll look good with red hair.
I'm blonde right now because I dyed my hair for the movie, which btw I'm sure the color is faded as hell by now, but I'm happy having dark hair again." Nikolai said.
"I was raised by a single mom most my life, so before I was 18 and knew who my dad was, she was my only parent...I wanted to be like her in so many ways... people always stared at us, a very asian looking kid with a typical blonde white woman aren't exactly what you see everyday, not unusual but not usual at the same time." Jin replied.
"Oh I see...My family and I rarely hung out anywhere with a crowd so i don't think I ever gotten stared at for having a white mom, and most the time I hung out with my dad more than my mom so when people see an Indian father taking his very much Indian looking son outside, no one bats an eye...now that I think about it, our dads seems to have strong ass genes." Nikolai said chuckling.
Smiling, "I don't hate being asian or anything...I love myself how I am, but when my mom died, my world went upsidedown for a while.
The first time I dyed my hair was like a month after my mother's death." Jin stated.
Feeling a slight jab in his heart, Nikolai put down his fork and decided to pay more attention to Jin as Jin continued talking, "I was grieving really hard...and I did this weird thing where I missed my mom so damn much, I decided to dye my hair to be the same color as her although...I know super weird I just...really missed her.
Funny thing but my hair was much shorter than hers back then when I first dyed it, and as the color faded back to dark, I decided to grow out my hair then go blonde again..."
Sighing, "I'm sorry to hear you were having such a hard time with losing your mom that you changed your looks, though I hope it made you feel better?" Nikolai replied.
"For a while, it did...but then I just decided to move on, that's why I chose red next, but I kept my hair long because I liked it that way." Jin explained.
"Personally I do think long hair suit you greatly, however I'm not sure that dyeing it red was a good idea." Nikolai replied.
"Goodness, Padma said the same thing... I'm hopeless when it comes to fashion and stuff like that." Jin said feeling disappointed in himself.
"That's why I'm here! Your super fashionable boyfriend also This Padma again! I feel like I know her!" Nikolai said squishing his eyebrows together as he tried to remember.
"You probably do! She was a student in our highschool, Padma Patel? You spoke to her once or twice, and you told me how she annoyed you when she spoke about how much she hated the headmaster's haircut." Jin said trying to help Nikolai refresh his memory.
"Oh shoot! Her! That girl had serious beef with the headmaster's haircut! I avoided her like the plague after the first time we talked so I wouldn't have to hear again about how much she wanna shave the poor man's head clean off! Haha!" Nikolai said laughing.
"That's her, and she's doing people's hair now, she's working at a nice little salon nearby, nothing fancy or big but they do a good job there, also it's very inclusive in there, anyone can literally come and ask for anything as long as they have a picture of what they want.
Since your hair color is fading Niko, maybe we can have a date at the salon." Jin suggested.
"Yeah! We can go and remove our hair dye!" Nikolai replied.
"Hmmm not bad, I guess I do miss having dark hair." Jin said thinking.
"All righty then! It's a date!...hmm, but how do you know Padma? I get it by now that Moses made you part of his crew back then in highschool because you were popular among the girls, but from what I remember about her, Padma doesn't really like being around men, I remember when I spoke to her back then she kinda like glared when she saw you from a distance with some girls talking to you, and she was like 'Ugh, Men...so overrated.' or something.
Not sure if it's because she might've been a lesbian or she just hates men, I mean she obviously hated most guys in our school, She was one of the few girls I never saw go out on a date with Moses back in highschool!
Which makes me believe she might've been actually a lesbian, since she obviously and comfortably talked to me, an obvious gay guy." Nikolai asked.
"It's not really my place to be telling you this but you're right about her, she's a lesbian...wait I just remembered something crazy?!" Jin said.
"Huh, what?" Nikolai asked, "Minnie! She's bisexual right! I keep forgetting that!" Jin replied.
"Why does it matter?" Nikolai asked again, "When I was at the hairsalon that day with Padma, we talked about relationships and stuff, she said that her biggest regret in relationships was not going on another date with Minnie! Apparently she had a major crush on her!" Jin said enthusiastically.
Surprised, "You're kidding me right! Padma and Minnie went on a date?! The Minnie Barlow?" Nikolai replied.
"Yeah! Padma said it happened sometimes during highschool, but she didn't go out again with Minnie although she enjoyed most of their date, because the date ended in disaster...Apparently by the end of their date, the girls were chilling in Padma's place while her mom was gone to visit relatives, so Padma pulled out some liquor that her mom was hiding, and asked Minnie to drink with her but Minnie refused and Padma kept insisting that Minnie should losen-up and drink, but instead Minnie got angry and left the date.
And ever since then Minnie avoided Padma and Padma did the same, although she regrets avoiding Minnie because she never got a chance to apologize to her!
Padma herself had no idea why Minnie was that angry, I guess Minnie never told her about her mother being an addict." Jin said.
"It's so sad knowing that neither girls got the closure they deserved after that date! I know it's personal but Padma should've been at least made aware of the alcohol problem so she wouldn't try to make Minnie drink, and Minnie deserved an apology for getting forced to do something she didn't like by peer pressure...
Maybe we should get the girls together, help them fix this?" Nikolai suggested.
"That's a sweet idea! who knows maybe just like us, this could rekindle their flame and we'd be responsible for one more gay couple in the world!" Jin said enthusiastically.
Giggling, "Look at you happy at the thought of playing fairy gaymother, hehe!" Nikolai replied, "But anyways you still haven't told me how did you and Padma become friends?"
"Remember around the time you came back to this town to start filming, and I kinda like not so creepily followed you?"
"Yeah, you pulled a Lydia-move, Jinnie."
"I'm not like Lydia! I swear!...umm, Anyways...Padma was somewhat my client before you." Jin replied.
"How did that happen?!" Nikolai asked.
"It just happened by chance, when I moved into the apartment complex Cyrus is currently living in, Padma was living there just a few levels above me...."
"Oh wow I had no idea You and Padma were neighbors!"
"She was living there with a roommate, but by the time I arrived, her roommate has already moved out and she was looking for somebody to live with... another woman like she said."
"Obviously." Nikolai replied while going back to eating his cake as he listened to the story.
"Anyways, as I moved in, Uncle Joe was helping me carry some few stuff on the stairs when Padma passed by us and she took one look at my hair and was like 'Holy shit! it's been awhile since I've seen a wild hair like that' and I instantly recognize it was Padma talking, she didn't change much appearance.
But it took her few more minutes before she realized who I was, and then we decided to catch-up over a coffee...She was surprisingly more friendly than I expected, we talked a little until she mentioned her job being a hairstylist and all, then I was like 'hey I'm a bodyguard now!'
she was so surprised and jokingly asked if I would be her bodyguard for free since she had little money to offer, so I said yes." Jin said.
"Why did you agree to help her free of charge, wasn't she joking?" Nikolai asked.
"At the time when she joked like that, it didn't feel like a joke...that was real fear in her eyes and she kinda looked at me as if I was her last hope... When I said I don't mind helping her for free just this once, she immediately told me about her problem.
Apparently there has been some guy who's been stalking her for the past few weeks before my arrival.
Every day without fail from the moment she comes out of the apartment complex, until she comes back to it, this guy is always somewhere behind her, watching her.
it became so scary to a point where Padma missed few shifts at work one time, because she thought she saw him carrying a knife while stalking her." Jin explained.
"Oh God?!" Nikolai gasped.
"Yeah, it was a pretty bad situation and the police didn't really care to help Padma...so I decided to be her bodyguard.
Eventually we managed to find out who's the guy and got his information, so I contacted his parents who turned out to be big fish people.
I explained to them their son's actions and that Padma was going to press charges against him if he doesn't disappear from her life.
Long story short, his parents came the next day and took their son away, and Padma hasn't seen him ever since." Jin said.
"That's the funniest ending I've ever seen for a situation like this!" Nikolai replied, "Can you get me more cake?" He then asked smiling.
