Ruby looked at Severin and wondered what he was involved with. Or could it be someone who was after her? No. Ruby told herself. She did not have such powerful adversaries. These men looked like professionals. This was nothing petty. Ruby prayed that they would come out of this alive. She tried hard not to panic by rehearsing a song with sweet lyrics in her mind. She tried to avoid Severin and the driver’s eyes because she did not want to see anybody else’s panic as well.
As night set in, the captives were afraid to make any attempts at setting themselves free. They were mentally and physically exhausted, so they eventually fell asleep.
The men did not return until late at night. “Remove his tape Zack, so he can speak to his father,” the one in the lead commanded. Zack removed Severin’s duck-tape and placed a cellphone against his mouth. “Tell your father that you are alright and that he should just pay up the money,” he told Severin.
