The flying man

That bizarre breath taking adrenaline rush had firmly catapulted my stomach in what felt like my throat, I was barreling down a cliff spending as much time clutching the frozen towel with all my strength on the ground as i spent catapulted into the air by the slightest of bumps.

Every time i touched back down it felt like i cheated death, any small shift in my center of gravity would spell certain doom, and yet here i was.

I was struggling to see anything due to my eyelids being forced shut by the ruthless lashes of the rushing wind, and yet what i did see gave me hope, i could survive this, up ahead i could see the cliff gradually loose it's sharp angle until it was practically horizontal.

Whilst rushing down i just barely managed to notice that more rock surfaces were exposed through the snow and even a few shrubs here and there started to appear.

What felt like hours of practically free falling had paid off, the snow layer which at the top was two meters thick was finally thinning.

'That's great news, i can survive!'

My sluggish oxygen deprived brain thought extatically, only for my delayed realization to slash my excitement, I noticed the slope ahead looked odd but familiar.... IT WAS ANOTHER LEDGE!

"Skrrrrr"

I dug my heels into the snow because the slope had decreased in slope and doing this wouldn't send me to jesus now, surprisingly the friction i was worried about earlier was nowhere to be found, unsurprisingly however the plan my groggy brain cooked up massively backfired.

The lack of friction meant that instead of serving as a break for my incredibly fast descend it instead served to destabilize me and send me spinning like a bay-blade.

At first i fruitlessly attempted to keep control of the steering by adjusting my heel position but that only made it worse, i was spinning all over the place and due to my massive momentum once I lost control there was no gaining it back.

My momentum from the spinning thrashed me around like a puppet making it impossible to stabilize, instead i just acted on reflex.

Knees tucked in (slime included), arms protecting my head, and several prayers to every single major god out there.

At first my fall didn't hurt too badly but due to my delayed reactions I sent myself stumbling in the worst possible location.

The snow had been thinning for quite a while now, but the white omnipresent blanket of snow was transitioning into scattered patches of snow giving way to the rocks underneath just where i was currently falling.

I could feel the snow that lessened the pain from my tumble get thinner underneath me, remembering what i saw earlier I kicked myself off the ground, hoping to avoid the layer of rocks that led directly to a wide field of green grass.

But my eyes had once more decieved me, that was indeed a layer of rocks but it led to a slight cliff of rocks roughly 3 meters tall which i had just catapulted myself off of.

The previous viewing angle hid away the gradient of the grass, it seemed to be like a massive army of green, trickling into the never ending cold embrace of the snow.

The grass closer to the snow was thinner, shorter, less green and less dense, you had to look 30 meters ahead of the snow blanket to even spot full healthy green grass again.

The viewing angle didn't fully obstruct the whole gradient, how didn't i realize it looked unatural, well the dye had already been cast.

My legs impacted the ground, i fell a total of 6 meters if you account for the slope and my jump, such a height could have forced me to live for the rest of my new life in a wheel chair which i would rather avoid.

I made sure to not hold my legs straight upon impact and instead bent them, i was immediately forced into a kneeling position by the momentum yet instead of letting my knees impact the ground I propelled myself forward with the feet I had just touched down with.

This way I converted at least some of my downwards momentum into forward facing momentum, but not all of it, I brought my aching feet closer to my core and stuck my arms forward and transitioned my body into a barrel roll to break even more of my downwards momentum.

The moment my back touched the ground i knew my efforts were not enough to beat the ruthless gravitational embrace of mother earth, a jolt of immense pain and shock reverberated through my body, forcing me to violently cough out all of the air inside of my lungs, then my legs hit the ground and i kept sliding.

I fully expected my maneuver to fail, I even closed my eyes and got ready for everything to go dark and silent, but somehow my maneuver half succeeded, sure my feet were supposed to touch down before my back allowing me to push away even more momentum before the rest of my body struck the ground like a sack of potatoes, but at least I'm not dead.

I kept sliding down the grass for another 50 or so meters before i came to a full stop, i struggled to get up as every muscle was aching, but i finally accomplished it.

"...."

"WHERE'S JIGGLY ?!?"

As if perfectly timed, I watch it's limp body slide on the ground about 3 meters away from me.

Immediately I ignored the damage report i was about to do and rushed after it, the grass and Jigglys gelatinous exterior made for a perfect low friction combination, and so it wooshed past me at quite a fast speed.

That would be fine if there wasn't a huge ravine just 30 meters up ahead.

I kept running, if you ever ran downhill you know how painfull it is for the souls of your feet, and since my feet were bare and had some severe scrapes on them from the rocks and hurt from the impact this was no pleasant.

At first it slid away faster than i ran but then as it lost momentum i started catching up.

It was 15 meters away from the cliff, i was 5 meters away from it, 10 meters from cliff 4 from me, 5 meters from cliff 2 from me.

"floshp"

That was the sound it made when it's soft jiggly body impacted my hand, i had jumped forward, slid a bit, reached out my hand, and just barely managed to get it in front of it in time for it to not fall off the cliff.

I too managed to come to a stop just before the cliff by implanting my toes and fingers into the dirt and jumping 5 meters ahead of the cliff, giving me enough time to slide to a halt.

I was now staring down the steep revine, looking at what could have just been my fate, down bellow me a chunk of dirt was dislodged from the side of the cliff by all my movement and fell 50 meters violently splattering on the ground.

I couldn't help but remember that that could've been my brain, splattered all over the rocks below, I shook my head trying to rid myself of the intrusive thought and got up to step away from the revine and collect my thoughts.

My body somehow managed to come out of this mostly unscaved, my limbs were still frozen stiff, i could barely manage to move them, but on a more positive note i didn't break any bones.

Sure I did have some severe Cuts and gashes on my arms and legs with chunks of skin scraped off from when i tumbled on the rock layer earlier.

'But that's fine, at least this way i can procrastinate my death and die of infection or blood loss later, except oh wait i can't because I'll die of hypothermia before then, how fun!'

'Urgh my altitude sickness even tho slightly lessened in intensity is still there too '

Even tho i desperately needed to rest next to a nice cozy campfire while sipping on a hot beverage, I was still far away from obtaining either of those commodities, as such I ignored my aching and proceeded with the steps of my desperate plans for short term survival.

I rushed towards the closest bush and tried ripping off a good solid branch that could serve as a weapon, I located one but unfortunately when i tried to break it off I discovered that maybe it was too effective of a weapon, i reflexively pulled my hand back and shook it to soothe the pain of the thorns.

I gnashed my teeth, after a few chaotic thoughtful seconds I rushed towards the nearest mass of rock protruding out of the tranquil sea of grass, I then picked up a stone that seemed usable as a weapon, centuries of harsh winds and repeteadly freezing and unfreezing had led to there being a heafty pile of stones at the base of the rock.

I could barely wrap my frozen fingers around it but it was still better than my fists.

"I'll be back for you little buddy!"

I told the unconcious slime as i placed it down at the base of the rock, a thinn layer of frost had formed on its surface.

'Ok phew it's alive'

I quickly checked the status and saw it's HP was still at 0.1 somehow, so I rushed off to try my luck and see if my impractical plan could possibly work.

I checked the sky again to make sure the vital piece of the puzzle was still there, confirming it, I stood in a wide open space, opened my mouth and with the full strength of my exhausted lungs I pushed a sound through my stiff and aching throat.

"BHEEEEEEEEEEEEE"

After embarrassing myself for neither the first nor last time in my life, I checked to see the reaction of the eagles, they got closer, but still kept cautiously gliding in circles observing my movements.

"Damm you caucious bastards."

I muttered under my breath as i moved to execute the contingency plan, which i was really hoping to avoid.

I rushed to the revine and scouted for an appropriate spot on the cliff face, through a stroke of luck i found just the right one.

Without a second thought, I got down and started carefully descending carefully yet nimbly.

Well as nimbly as my half frozen dangling sausages would allow me to , surprisingly, with a sigh of relief, I got into the position i was eyeing and tried my luck with the plan again.

"BHEEEEEEE"

This time one of the more courageous eagles couldn't resist and swooped down towards me.

Even tho this is a new world the eagles I've noticed in the sky looked exactly the same as my old world although a lot bigger.

This was a huge gamble but I hoped they had the same hunting habbits and pray as on earth, as such I mimicked a mountain goat in a precarious position, and sure enough, just like it does on earth, the eagle swooped down hoping to destabilize my footing and make me fall to my death, where it could enjoy a nice Dom stew.

But my position was not as precarious as this bird brained fuck may have thought, It was now right above me.

"AAAAH"

I screamed to give myself courage and desperately charged it and into a plan that could go wrong in so so many ways.
