Author’s note: I just want to be clear to the pronunciation of Kirsche's name, it’s pronounced as keer-sha. That’s all. Thank you and happy reading.
“Welcome back to another school year. May this year be fruitful and full of learning. Once again, welcome back!”
I can’t help but to disagree to our university President. This might not be a good year for me. I have Biophysics, Biostatistics, and Biochemistry all in one semester! That’s insane and looks like I’ll lose my sanity too.
Alone, I went straight to our assigned classroom and because I’m under the College of Science, all our rooms were on the sixth floor. You’ll probably smell like shit the moment you reach your floor.
As soon as I reached our room, I settled myself and sit. Few of my classmates were already inside the room and from the looks of it; I think they have their own group of friends. That’s fine by me though, I am fine being by myself.
“Good morning, is this BS Biology 2-3?” asked the girl who entered our room.
“Yes,” answered my classmates.
“Great, I’ll be your professor for Biochemistry. I’m Ms. Ildefonso and I will be your professor for both lecture and laboratory. Are all of you here already?”
“No, Ma’am. 2 of our classmates are still not here” answered one of my girl classmates when suddenly a guy entered. Our professor seems to notice.
“So we’re just waiting for one, right? Then let’s start.” She then stood up and gave each one of us the class syllabus.
She seems enthusiastic and full of energy to think that this was just the first day of class. We don’t basically expect profs to be present the first week of class. That’s usually the set up.
She discussed the whole syllabus. She was almost done when another guy entered our room. She did not reprimand the guy and just let him be, and since the seat beside me was empty and the last one, he took it.
“What did she discuss?” asked the guy beside me.
“Nothing, she just gives out the course syllabus. You want to see it?” I handed him the syllabus and he took it. He uttered thank you after reading through it.
“We still have 2 hours so should we start our lesson now?”
I groaned upon hearing those words. First day of class and she already wants to conduct a lesson? Instantly, two of my classmates borrowed a projector and extension.
“While waiting for your two classmates to return, kindly find yourself a partner because we’re going to answer exercises later on.”
I looked around only to see that all my classmates have their respective partners. I was about to raised my hand to inform my professor that I’ll do the exercises alone but was cut short when suddenly my seatmate tapped my shoulder.
“Do you have a partner?” he asked.
“None”
“Me too, let’s be partners.” I just shrugged my shoulders since I don’t have that much of a choice.
The biochemistry of water was discussed to us. From its properties, structure, intramolecular forces and intermolecular forces, ionization of water and pH.
“Okay, did you understand everything? Clarification? Violent reaction?” No one from my classmates react since the lesson was pretty easy. “Good, then. Now, get one whole yellow pad and answer all these questions with your partner.”
“Do you have a paper?” asked my seatmate.
“Yes”
“You’re not much of a talker, eh? Can’t you answer me more profoundly?” he foolishly smiled at me.
I just gave him a bored look and got a paper.
“What number do you want to answer?” I asked because he might think that I’m choosing the easy ones.
“1 and 2.” I nodded and start computing.
We were just tasked to get the pH and we only have 4 sets of questions so this will be easy. We were told that we can go once we finish answering.
“I’m done. Just pass the paper once you’re finish. Thanks.” I got up and collected my things. I bid my goodbye to our professor and she just let me be since I’m done with my task.
“Hey, wait up!” I rolled my eyes upon hearing a familiar voice.
I continued walking for there’s no reason to stay and wait for him, but I haven’t taken any further steps when he showed up in front of me and blocked my way.
“I already shouted for you to wait. Are you deaf?” and he even made this damn sign language thinking that I’m deaf.
For the nth time, I rolled my eyes and decided to ignore him when he suddenly grabbed me by the arm. I shot him dagger looks for him to let me go and good thing he got the sign.
“What is your problem?” I asked because I can’t take it anymore.
“I see you can talk and it seems to me that you’re not deaf,” and he laughed as if what he said was funny.
“Did I say I’m deaf?” he scratched his forehead, embarrassed, after hearing what I just said.
“I just assumed things since I already shouted earlier for you to wait for me but you just continued walking.”
“It is not my responsibility to wait for you.” After hearing my response, amazement was painted all over his face.
I think my words offended him since most of the times I don’t filter my words.
“You’re right on that matter, but I just want to hang out,” he shyly said.
“And I don’t want to. Goodbye,” I replied and turned my back at him.
“Hep hep,” and for the nth time he blocked my way, again.
“What? Do you expect me to say hooray?” he was speechless for a moment but then he chuckled while he shook his head.
“I didn’t know you’re a joker,” he teased.
“That was not a joke, it was sarcasm. And would you please stop pestering me. Just go and find somebody else to be your companion.”
“I want you. Why can’t you just let me? I won’t be bothersome, I promise.” His reply made me roll my eyes.
“The moment you talked to me, you were already a bothersome.” I don’t know why I’m wasting my time talking to this guy, “You know what, whatever. Do what you want to do.” A smiled slowly crept on his face and he started walking with me.
