The Gift

By the time my shift ended, the sun had been down for hours. I hung my apron, let down my hair, and made my way out the back door to start my walk home.

I couldn’t help but keep looking over my shoulder, certain that Sebastian was still in the area keeping an eye on me. The night we met, he made Hikaru and me sound so meaningless. His obsession with us was concerning, but I did my best to follow Hikaru’s lead. They said they would look into it, and I needed to trust that.

However, when it came to walking home alone after dark, I was very much on my own. These people, or wolves, didn’t seem to need any reason whatsoever to go after me or the people close to me. If they did have a reason, I doubted they would ever let me in on it. I tried to focus on things I could understand in order to maintain some semblance of stability.
