Chapter 71
“It’s nice outside for late December,” Mickey said.
“So?”
“Let’s go sit in the swing.”
“Yeah, let’s.” They sat quietly for quite a while watching the river.
“I wonder why the former owners of this house didn’t enclose this porch?” Mickey said.
“Maybe they liked fresh air, no matter what time of year it was.”
“More to the point, why didn’t we think of doing that when we were remodeling?”
“I guess it never occurred to us,” Chris said. “If it really bothers you, we can do it now.”
“It doesn’t actually bother me—I was just curious.”
Chris looked at his watch. “I hate to end this scintillating conversation, but I need to check on things in the kitchen.”
“Can I help?”
“You can help by sending Ted upstairs to get dressed. The last time I saw him, he was still wearing the clothes he cooked in, and they were none too clean.”
“I’ll take care of it.”
