Veronica thrashes about, struggling with the dark shadow, desperately trying to remove the strong hand that covers her mouth in order to scream for help, when the words the shadow is saying penetrates her frightened brain.

/"Miss Veronica, it is I, Simpewe. I wish you no harm, but my master, the witchdoctor has sent me to you, he waits not far from here with a message for you. He says the elders have spoken to him, and that you are in great danger./"

Veronica slowly realizes who is with her. With her heart hammering in her chest she relaxes under his hand.

/"Simpewe, I know you, and your master, for he helped with the hyena, where is he now?/"

/"I am ashamed that I scared you, but it was necessary that no one knows of my presence here or of my master./"

/"That is okay Simpewe, tell me, where is he now?/"

/"He waits where the smoke thunders, for evil cannot cross moving water and asks that you come now, for time is short./"
