Chapter 41: Answers
“What was... I mean, how did I...?” Vix could not speak for all the questions trying to tumble out her mouth at once.
Melina pushed open the door to Vix’s cell. As she walked through, her foot struck against the charred lock, sending it skidding across the ground to tumble into the crevasse. The dark-haired woman raised her eyebrows at Vix.
Vix grimaced. After the insanity of the last few minutes, her escape attempt had been completely pushed from her mind. She waited to see how Melina would react.
But the witch simply shook her head and sighed softly. “To be honest, I would have been somewhat disappointed if you hadn’t tried to break out. Considering your skills...”
“Sorry,” Vix interrupted, no longer able to contain herself. She pointed at the hovering balloon creature and demanded, “But what is that thing?”
Melina’s mouth twisted in what looked almost like a smile. “You’re sure you’ve never seen anything like her, before?”
