Chapter 6

“Don’t worry. I’ll explain everything later when you feel better. Greg says you’re going to be here for a week. One of us will be here at all times so you won’t be lonely or frightened.” Danny patted the arm without the IV line. The nurse came in and injected something into the IV.

“What’s that?” Danny asked.

“Dr. Harris ordered intravenous antibiotics for his pneumonia.” She took Robbie’s blood pressure and temperature, looked at the oxygen flow and then left the room.

Robbie looked at each of the subs in turn. “I know there’s something…I’ve heard about some of the names…you mentioned, but I’m too…doped up now to remember. Even if this is a dream, thank you, Danny. I’ll die…knowing someone cared about me.” Robbie had a hard time speaking. Even in the face of adversity, the kid was stoic.

Greg put his head in the room. “The orderlies are coming to move him up to a private suite. Johnny insisted. Why doesn’t everyone but Danny clear out so the orderlies can make the transfer?”
