Chapter 135 Nature
"Make sure no unmated beastman can sneak in," Jiu Hu's grave tone of voice made them not relax their vigilance.
Hu'er's heat came just as they finished eating. They immediately surrounded the premises. More mated patrols, hunters, and other strong beastmen came to help.
Hu'er's heat is a type where her heat smell spreads more, affecting so many beastmen around their home. Mated beastmen could even smell a hint of fragrance, luckily none of the mated ones are affected by it, they only felt good about it. If they are affected, even just one of them, then they will be troubled. As it means that there is a possibility that they would rush to where Hu'er is and another type of heat that would ruin the balance of the tribe and might be, the whole world.
Others are watching the situation. Most of them are females who are on their window, watching their mates help and fight unmated beastmen.
Fighting has been common to them when a female is on their first heat. Some families would even make sure to drive away all unmated cubs when they know a female near them will have their heat soon. One is to avoid letting them run off and fight to get to the female. Two is to make sure that they wouldn't embarrass their sons and even in-laws. Lastly, it is to not be clouded with the thought of the female's fragrance that they smelled.
Right now, every mated beastmen has a big pouch of powder, every time they could smell the fragrance they would put some powder in a stone cup with water and boil it for the smell to turn into smoke which will take away Hu'er's fragrance, and spread a different smell to cover her heat. It is working and has herbs that can help their body and blood healthy when inhaled.
They also heard that Ke Rin is working on it, improving, and thinking of a way to make the powder into the wax and put something that can light it up and be reusable.
The surrounding of Hu'er's territory is guarded. Some of them are chattering and watching some beastmen fight with untamed beastmen.
The unmated beastmen who couldn't control themselves will rush toward where the fragrance is, wanting to have a taste of the female, Hu'er, who emits such a smell.
Some unmated beastmen woke up with the smell of powder and were embarrassed, they took some powder as they ran away with flushed faces.
Some who didn't have a target female and were affected by the smell looked at Hu'er's territory longingly. Her Daddies would glare at those and when it was other mated beastmen who saw that they would laugh and wish them good luck.
Also, those who already had a target hid away and were ashamed of what they had done. Sadly, some hid away and went in a daze, longingly wanting to smell it again, even when they know that they already have a future mate.
However, this kind of scene is normal. The family of those females and the female herself understood the situation. Some will just let it be and others will ask for compensation such as meat to let them feel less guilty. It is rare to have chaos because of such a thing.
It is Fox's nature to rush where the heat and fragrance are. This is the Fox Tribe's special nature. Other Tribes won't be too affected by it, they would want to mate with a female that is in the heat but they still can control themselves and have the ability to run away if necessary. Only the Fox Tribe will be uncontrollable.
"I heard their daughter's future mates are all tied already." This fox beastman is one of the patrols who are assigned to guard the gates.
Another patrol looked over and replied, "Yes. They are the nearest to the house. If the girl suddenly needs another to mate with her, they can release one of her future mates." This one isn't common. Most little females would only choose one future mate. Only others who have a "deal" with some families or tribes will have more.
Families would treasure little females to make them 'rare', 'important', or even 'expensive'.
Most females would have a second mate when they spent one year with their first one. They would let others fight and whoever wins will be her second mate. If it's not violent picking then it's treasure picking. Letting them get more food, gems, and fabrics if the female took a liking to their thing they can be their mate.
"Is someone with them?" The first patrol who talked scratched his nose, a bit irritated with the smell of flowers from the powder.
He looked at the forest before him, "Yes. Jia Ting, Yun He, Jiu Se, and Qiang Li are there."
He was shocked and looked over, "That much? Jia Ting is enough to guard them."
"That's what I thought too. I don't know, they might be just too cautious, after all this smell is quite fascinating and desired by unmated beastmen." Shrugging his shoulders, he threw the powder into the water.
He looked at the pouch, "We would need to burn more powder. It's nearly empty."
"Yeah. Pour more, I'll go and get two more pouches of powder." He went away and left the patrol to guard the gates. Anyway, they are not afraid to just leave on patrol at gates when they just need to walk twenty steps and someone is also guarding and boiling some water with the powder.

On the other side of the Fox Tribe, Old Lady and her mate, the retired Tribe Leader, are talking about Hu'er's situation.
"Luckily, Ke Rin has made such a thing…" The old lady sighed in relief.
"Yes," her mate agreed and reached out his hands to touch his hand but the Old Lady slapped it and glared at him.
She then looked at the window and worriedly asked, "Do you think my little Hu'er is crying now?"
He muttered, "She might," and pitifully looked at her.
She glared at him and snapped, "Yes. Just like what you did to me."
"Sorry." He tugged her clothes.
She puffed her cheeks and rolled her eyes. "Hmp. If I didn't know you couldn't control it, I would have beaten you."
"You can still beat me if you want," he smiles at her, hunting for something.
With a flushed face, she pinched him, "Don't act coquettish. We already have another little female, who seems to like to cry these days."
He sighed in defeat. "She might be feeling hot."
The Old lady suddenly thought of something, "Speaking of 'hot'… I wonder If Hu'er's heat didn't give her body too much hotness since the smell could even be smelled here."
He stopped to think about it before shaking his head. "She shouldn't have."
"Hey! Burn more powder!" She threw a small berry to his dazed son.
He blinked and dazedly did what Old Lady said, "Yes…"
"See. Our son got affected with just a little smell."

In one of the rooms of Hu'er mate's house is where her future mates are tied with the rope she made.
Xin Hua is the most affected of them all. His sense of smell is sharpest. Ke Rin is the same but not as bad as Xin Hua.
"How are you, Song Li?" Well, except for him. Song Li isn't a fox but he wants to have a taste of Hu'er and wants to know why she emits such a fragrance.
He sniffed. Song Li kept on inhaling the smell of Hu'er, thinking that with the smell he will get to know the taste of Hu'er. "Hu'er… I…"
Yun He saw his situation and frowned, "Can you control yourself?"
Song Li looks at where the smell is coming from, and his eyes darken.

A/N: Spoiler Alert!!!
It has been tough for me these days and the updates might slow down much much slower. I might regret this as it would surely make me lose some readers but this is the only thing I can do.
One, my body and mind are too tired after work. On my day off, I'm still working. I'm beginning to become a workaholic. And I don't want to type some nonsense in my story. I am not even satisfied with the past chapters.
Two, the story is getting more and more R-18. I didn't have any inspiration or idea of how to do it. Or a private place to type it. Quite embarrassed to do so with my family by my side. And I don't have my room.
