To end his moment of self-embarrassment, and to exit the bedroom in a hurry before Zeb changed his mind and decided to go postal on Nolan, the landlord cleared his throat, apologized about his invasion, and declared in a civil manner over his right shoulder while immediately performing his exit from the room, “I won’t enter your bedroom again without you being here. What was I thinking?”

“You don’t have to run away,” the young man called after his landlord. “Stay a short while. We can go through all of my underwear together.”

Nolan was half tempted to take Zeb up on his offer, but again, he didn’t know if the tenant on the second floor was joking or not. Sometimes an easy escape was without interruptions. Therefore, Nolan blocked out the invitation from sinking between his temples, before changing his mind and retreating into Zeb’s bedroom.
