It felt familiar--the figure standing by a corner in Jodie's room. It was mesmerizing and terrifying. It had skin like polished obsidian, hair like wild, crimson flames, and eyes that burned with an inner fire. It floated forward, and hovered above her bed, its face inches from Jodie's, drinking in the scent of her fear.
She laid motionless, her chest rising and falling with each gentle breath as she watched it. It watched her too, eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intensity. Suddenly, a knock at the door distracted them. The demon snapped its head towards it with a snarl, then vanished, leaving behind only a whispered promise: "Soon, Brianna."
